I think part of it is our D just doesn’t know how to run this D yet.

This is not the first time someone bring up the fact the the D scheme is too complex. The real question is, why don't we simplify the D scheme based on our unique scenario? Don't they know we have one summer to install this defense with 50+ new guys?
