OFFICIAL CU vs. ASU game thread 10/7/23

Coach Mo looks good but the health of the players and they are in such great shape but man, they are weak but a lot of them also lack size.
I agree that you’re probably right and we definitely lack size for where we want to go, but for us 35 year olds who have been around for decades, we’ve seen teams come out looking like D2 teams and freshmen come in and still look like freshmen when they graduate so our expectations of “lack size” probably still need some adjusting to match yours as we go forward LOL. A lot of these guys were only in the program for 3-4 months, so I’m eager to see what a full year looks like. The spring game next year should be pretty telling one way or another.

Why defer when your defense is complete ass? Start on O and get some confidence.

The interesting question will be whether you can build a good O-Line through the transfer portal and if so how quickly. Been discussed a little bit here lately and the jury is out on it. But upgrades must be possible, right?

It's not a talent issue. It's coaching issue. Yes, the talent is bad, but it's NOT this bad.

They don't handle physicality well. USC and TCU are soft teams. Arizona State isn't soft. They suck but they aren't soft. Colorado is a weak team with great stamina and is in excellent shape. That's why you rarely see injuries and they do their best late but are weak, get bullied easily, and are weak. Oregon, Nebraska, and ASU were all physical with us. Nebraska turnovers lost them that game, especially the QB's TOs. We lack strength. We need to recruit bigger players
So we are really strong?

A couple things with the offense which aren't really criticisms of Shedeur so much as areas he's growing and has room for improvement.

His approach to the QB position is very much like Peyton Manning. Very cerebral and his natural inclination would be to spend 20 seconds at the LOS presnap diagnosing the defense and audibilizing.

1. He isn't going with the pace this offense is supposed to. He plays really well at pace, but drifts away from it because it's not what comes instinctively for him.

2. He's got that Jokic thing of always making the right play based on what the defense is giving. That results in some checks into the wrong play for the situation or personnel even if it's the right play.

3. Tonight, ASU really threw him off in the first half by showing blitz and then backing out after he would audible. Sometimes he's got to force things. Maybe hand signal a WR to break off or change a route or be ready for a 50/50 ball. I think he had that chemistry & trust with Travis but it's not there with the other guys yet.

Anyway, he's allsome and I'm picking nits. The cool thing is that as great as he is there's room to become even better. This is going to be fun to watch.
