Official CU vs Houston game thread - 9/12/25

No. But he wasn't getting a major conference job after the scandal and his foot-in-mouth public statements.

I didn’t think it would be a high profile head coaching job, but OC at a major conference or head coach at a second/third tier conference

Go do yourself a favor. Go through the last 20 years of 247sports.com #1 player and see how many ended up being the #1 NFL prospect in their draft class
I don’t think this is the proper response. Kids that weren’t #1 in high school need to be developed. We don’t have coaches that develop.

That's a lie. Every player needs to be developed. I saw Travis live in HS and at Jackson. His development from freshman to Junior year was massive. It's even graded by PFF. He massively improved each year.

Jordan Seaton massively improved.

Shedeur did for every year but his last.

Most everyone we had massively improved.

Even the walk ons like Ben.

Prime is easily the best talent developer in the nation. He's ass in several areas but talent developer is where he excel. It's considered critical to him as well

If you think he's good for nothing, you are highly mistaken and this is someone who thinks he's a bad overall coach. Bad overall coaches are usually like Prime exceptional in some areas like a Les Miles or Ed Orgeron. You can win a natty with Prime, i don't think CU in this current NIL era can. Too broke.

Even the run of the mill players have gotten a lot better. What do you think Cam was? Even walk ons like Mikey Harrison and Ben Finnseth. Everyone who puts in the work improves here. Prime has an extreme talent development player friendly program as well as a human development friendly program.

You have a very strange obsession of trying to prove that CP doesn't develop talent.

Can you define what does it mean by "talent development" first?

If top grade talent doesn't count as "talent development", can we say Ryan Day can not develop talent?
If the talent development has to come from lower graded kid, can we say Cam'Ron Silmon-Craig is an example of CP developing talent?
Steve Sarkisian and Lincoln Riley are widely recognized for developing top-tier quarterbacks, by your definition, which QB developed by them is not a top-grade talent?

I guess I would define “talent development” by placing players on a football field with the University of Houston that look like they even belong there and don’t look overwhelmed. Winning 9 games (and getting our faces blown off by a decent BYU team) and the hands of some generational heroics by some generational talent is not “talent development”. Not being able to consistently run a football 4 yards. Not being able to tackle. Blowing coverages. Is not “talent development”.
But you all seem to think I am singling out Coach Sanders. If you read my post, I said we don’t have “coaches” that can develop talent.
If you want to talk play calling or time management sucking, that’s cool. But our players look soft and overwhelmed.

None of this has anything to do with talent development

You are mixing "talent development" with "being well coached" and "scheme design".

Let me ask you two questions

1. Is the coaching staffs in KSU good at "talent development"?
2. Is the coaching staffs in Arizona good at "talent development"?

The big issue with the DLs is three of them were out for this game against Houston. I think I would have been more careful if I realize this coming into the game. Run stopping was so critical against Houston
Which leads me to be extra frustrated with the offense. It was their job that game to either sustain long drives to keep our DL fresh or to score a lot of points to make Houston 1 dimensional. As long as Houston could play it straight while getting quick turnarounds, it was a certainty that CU's DL was going to wear down in the 2nd half.

Which showed.

How about Mark Helfrich? I don’t think his buyout from Fox Sports would be too much.. Hell, Tom Herman is out of work
Both are better than what we've got. I'd much prefer Herman since he'd bring the Urban offense and some insights into that recruiting model. Helfrich struggled with his offense as soon as the rules changed on defensive substitutions and that Oregon/Kelly hurry up stuff stopped working.

Yea. I’m done with gimmicks. If your offense can’t get yards without rushing the defense to get set, you have problems, especially these days with the official standing over the ball with every substitution.

None of the teams that have run over us in the past 4 games (including the bowl) have had to rush to the line to get a play off before we were ready. They just beat us with the scheme of their plays—not even great players. (We haven’t faced a great player in a while, and we still get run over.)

Why can’t we do that on offense?

We have plenty of quality players to do THAT.

lol. Oregon averaged 42.5 ppg under Helfrich. He failed because he hired Don Pellum and Brady Hoke as his DCs. 2256 points in 4 years = "struggled".

I know it was a joke, but Helfrich never called plays at Oregon, not as the OC and not as the HC. Neither did he call plays for Chicago when he was their OC. And while DeShaun Foster may make him look like Fred Astaire, Helf still has the personality of a wet dish rag.

K-State and Fresno st have both went this route with the former NDSU coaches.
This has worked a bunch of times recently with Klieman, DeBoner, Leipold, Cignetti. The best of both worlds is to find a guy like that who brings 10 starter transfers from his old team like Cignetti and DeBoner and Jedd Fisch, etc(obviously Prime with Shedeur). It's an immediate talent infusion and immediately establishes continuity in the locker room. Oh hey look everyone, our new starting QB who is going to get drafted next April loves this guy, let's go! If UCLA, for example, hires Tosh Lupoi(PLEASE GOD YES) no coach or player is going to go with him. You've got to hit the ground running these days.
