Olympic Sports- Transfers (incoming and outgoing) and other roster news

I haven't been paying attention.

It was maybe the one thing that made CU unique in distance running. We were elite with entirely US athletes. It was absolutely a differentiating factor.

I'm honestly conflicted on that going away.
I think the would be cool, but I would rather see them win rather than be where they were headed the last few years. For this to go back to what Wetmore did with U.S. runners, CU needs to rebuild the program and get the top runners to not go to NAU and the such. Wetmore let it fall off the ledge the last several years in regards to recruiting and when he did land top runners they transferred out fast. Work to be done.

There is a young distance runner who attends the local high school. His name is Quentin Naumann. The cross country and track teams run past my house during practice. Kid is a junior and now holds every boys distance record in the state of Iowa.

He has committed to Oregon. Wonder if CU could sneak in and get him to change his mind.

would be nice.

At the Iowa High School State Track Championship, Quentin had a day, becoming the first high school in the country to run sub 1:50 in the 800 and sub 4:00 in the 1,600 in the same meet.

Maybe he will decide he would like to be a bit closer to home.

Per the below (4th tab), the women's cross country and track and field teams have received a new transfer for next academic year in Juliette Forstrom, who should have 3 years of eligibility in the 3 different seasons distance runners can participate in (cross country and indoor and outdoor T & F) after spending her frosh year at Portland. Per the Portland roster page linked to below, she hails from Hamden, Connecticut.

Welcome and congrats to her!

The lacrosse team has announced the signings of 2 transfers for its upcoming (2026) season. They are:

  • Jillian Kane, who looks to be a defender (based on her stats from last year) who started all 20 games she played in last season for D3 NCAA tourney semi-finalist Colby College. (Since she's listed as a senior in the roster page listed below, assume she'll be a grad transfer with the Buffs.)

  • Midfielder Ansley Waters, who is heading to Boulder from Mercer University, who was her conference's (Big South) frosh of the year after the 2024 season, and also started 17 of the 18 games she participated in last season for her NCAA qualifying team. (She's listed as a sophomore in her Mercer roster page linked to below, so assume she'll start as a junior with the Buffs.)
OFFICIAL welcome and congrats to them!

Late last week, a men's track and field and maybe cross country distance runner announced his transfer to CU. He is Dominic Kipnyango*** Serem, who looks to have spent his sophomore year at Toledo this past academic year after spending his frosh season at Oklahoma. (I'd put this commitment in the "pretty confirmed" category since Coach Carlson included the below post in his Instagram stories.)
(***His Oklahoma roster page included Kipnyango in his name, while Tolido's didn't.)

Welcome and congrats to him!

Toledo cross country - https://utrockets.com/sports/mens-cross-country/roster/dominic-serem/9520
(Note - Looks like the Rockets don't offer track and field, so there is no roster page for him in that sport.)
Oklahoma:

(I couldn't find a separate cross country roster page for him. Therefore, don't know whether or not he may only be a sophomore next season for the Buffs?)

We've typically avoided non-American athletes in T&F. I'm glad to see that changing.

A couple weeks ago the ski team announced an addition to its women's Nordic squad - she is Leadville's 𝑵𝒊𝒏𝒂 𝑺𝒄𝒉𝒂𝒎𝒃𝒆𝒓𝒈𝒆𝒓, who will be junior this coming season after spending a couple years at Utah.

OFFICIAL welcome and congrats to her!

A week or so ago, the ski team announced a new addition to their women's alpine group. She is Hannah Soria, who will be a grad transfer after spending her undergrad years at Colby College. (She hails from Geneseo, Illinois.)

OFFICIAL welcome and congrats to her!

The ski team has been continuing to announce new additions, and the latest one (announced yesterday) is Norwegian (from Trondheim) Nordic skier Selma Nevin, who is moving to Boulder from the University of Utah. Only a frosh last year, looks like she could be a big contributor for the Buffs the next 3 years as she had MANY top finishes already with the Utes, including 5th and 14th place finishes at last season's NCAA Championships.

Per the below post, she is also a Buff legacy, as her mom Anna was also a Nordic skier at CU.

OFFICIAL welcome and congrats to her!
