Other games weekend of 11/22 - 11/24

4th & 8 with 6 minutes left, down 10 from his own 27... Holgorsen goes for it and they get a 1st down (on PI). I love that.
But in the first half with 4th and goal from the 6 he went for it and failed. And he lost by 3. Yeah, it was in the first half. I get it.

WVU and OU was an ugly game. OU used to actually play solid D. NC caliber talent but they will get their butts kicked by Clemson, Bama et al because they play D. That is crap FB.

You weren't gonna win this game by 3s. 1 touchdown beats 2 field goals. There was also the 4th & 2 in the first half that resulted in a TD drive. So I look at that as 2 tries and getting 7 points instead of a punt and a FG for 3 points. The math says that Holgorsen's approach scores more points. (It also creates an attitude for your offense that matters.)

This. Holgerson is a guy who probably gets the math on this - which does say that more coaches should go for it on 4th more often than any of them do.

As long as the announcers in the booth and the fans who don't understand math continue to vilify the coaches who do go for it a little more often than tradition says to, none of them will actually go for it as often as they really should.

This game is case in point. WV loses by 4 if Holgerson doesn't go for it on 4th down two times in the first half, instead they lose by 3 and he's criticized for a strategy that actually put one more point on the board than the alertnative.

Yep. Hire him an ace DC who understands coordinating to this kind of offense (like Aliotti was for Chip at Oregon), stock the staff with recruiters, and let's ****ing roll.
My main question is if he fits the identity that RG is looking for.

He doesn't have the reported identity. He does have an identity. Whether RG wants the same identity we had in the past is the question. So far, the reporting is yes. I'm ok with an identity that kicks ass in some way at least.

analogy, i used to date a girl who lived in NYC. Hell's Kitchen.....and as that area gentrified a lot of the new, respectable types wanted to change the name....rebrand Hell's Kitchen. my opinion as someone who used to teach advertising at two universities (sometimes).....what better "brand" could you have than something called Hell's Kitchen. about 80% of the work is done for you already.....fantastic name value, flash....all you have to do it flip the script and make it mean 8$ coffees and high end breakfast nooks and wine shops.

that said, as a football fan there was a lot to dislike about the WVU-OU game.....if (if) there is something called "the integrity of the game".....then it was really strained last night. i still like Holgerson to CU if we could get him.....but i could get objections.

Hell’s Kitchen would be a kickass name for ASU’s stadium with their forks.

That was a good UDub win last night

1. Power run
2. Two-level picket fence with decent pressure
3. Tackling in space on check downs.

Pete ball.

In order to lock the Big 10 out of the playoffs, would an Ohio Stste win do that? Or would the voters jizz all over themselves from a victory over Mich and bump them up to top 4?*

Obviously if OSU/Mich loses B10 ccg that would settle that. But I don’t want it to come down to that.

I think I’m rooting for OSU to create havoc...just like I rooted for UW last night.
