Pac 10 insider: CU (public school) better fit than Baylor (religious) in Pac 10

Bronson Hilliard, spokesman for Colorado chancellor Phil DiStefano said: "There's no need for us to sell ourself. We think our achievements as a university, athletically and academically, stand on their own merits. We're not going to get in a public debate with Baylor on who's more fit to be a member of this or that conference."

If it comes down to Colorado and Baylor, Colorado still has the edge. A Pac-10 insider told The Denver Post that as a major state university, Colorado is a better fit than a private religious school such as Baylor

Come on Bronson and DiStephano. Try to be a little more condescending. Howzabout this:

"We believe Baylor Regent Buddy Jones is going about this the wrong way. The disparagement of a fellow member of the higher education community, let alone a valued partner in our own Big 12 Conference is disappointing. CU's leadership refuses to play the game of Baylor Regent Buddy Jones. CU's Regents and the Office of the President recognize that our behavior and the way we respond to this kind of petty attack sends a message to the students, fans, and the communities that we serve. We believe the actions of the Baylor Regent is wrong and is an example of poor sportsmanship. Engaging a valued partner like Baylor in such a petty and unprofessional manner is a waste of our time.

We encourage our students and fans to uphold the highest standards of sportsmanship and good behavior when CU hosts Baylor's athletic teams later this year. After workimg closely with our partners at Baylor ever since the inception of the B12, we recognize that the lobbying by Buddy Jones does not fairly represent the historical values of Baylor University and the broader Baylor family.

Passive aggressive is the wrong way to go about this. I like the way CU is handling the situation. It'd be best if we could encourage the media outlets to do a little bit of fighting on our behalf, but it doesn't look like that's gunna happen.

Right. So they have that "sacred relationship" with UT, TAMU and TTU. Apparently, their relationship is much more "sacred" than the misguided Methodists at SMU, off-base Disciples of Christ at TCU, the non-religious heathens at Houston, or even their fellow Baptists at Rice.
