The Buffs landed a pair of combo guards.

“Let’s just build the whole team out of combo guards.” — Tad Boyle, apparently.

Colorado has added two promising players to their 2025 recruiting class, Jalin Holland and Josiah Sanders. Both are four-star combo guards who are rising towards the Top 100 on 247 Sports’ recruiting rankings.

Holland is from Los Lunas, New Mexico, and transferred to an Arizona prep academy for his last season of high school basketball. He’s impressed scouts with his strength, body control and driving ability. He also shows tremendous potential as a shooter and shot creator. Colorado had to compete with schools like Oklahoma and Texas and for his signature.

As for Sanders, he’s a local kid from Denver who played high school ball at Colorado Prep. He was the primary target for the Buffs in this recruiting cycle, continuing the pattern of Boyle landing the top guard in the state. Sanders has his sights set on the NBA and chose CU because he believes it’s the best place for him to develop.

Sanders wants the ball in his hands to drive and create. He’s still developing as a shooter, but the program sees someone they can build the offense through. He’s also left-handed and rebounds well for his size, almost like he was a made as a custom order from Boyle.

Colorado now has four players committed to the class and all of them are guards. The others are Ian Inman, a 6’4 combo guard, and Isaiah Johnson, a 6’1 pure point guard. My guess is that Sanders and Holland are the foundational players, Johnson is a Hammond-esque bench guard and Inman is a project.

This could also point to some questions with the current roster. Hammond and Baskin will leave after this season, RJ Smith and Courtney Anderson are question marks, and it’s unclear what position is best for Andrew Crawford. It would also suggest that Boyle will lean on Assane Diop and Bangot Dak as forwards, or recruit a big through the transfer portal.
