Rambling thougths after to much coffee

Sorry if this is the wrong area for this, but just a few items that I am churning over:

1. In todays Post and on Huskerboard.com (I think) there was talk of NU folks not thinking CU was a rival. Now, in the past, this would make me irritable, but in this case it made me think, 'do Ireally give a #$%^ anymore?'. Seriously, in the past I cared, but anymore I don't give a crap what they think, or if its a rivalry or not. I don't care about their team, their classy fans, or their obsession with winning. The death threats, walkouts, blah blah blah... I think the further we distance ourselves from these bottom dwellers the better. They're pathetic...

2. Sign in last nights KU/MU game said something to the effect of:
'KU football tradition since September'. Obviously some tiger fan thinking that MU football is the gateway to the NCAA Football History. Now if an OU/LSU/USCND fan did this I would not bat an eye, but MU? Don't get me wrong, I like the team they have this year, but don't think of them as having a big tradition for decades or even years... they have never won the B12 North, etc.

2. i do not give a good dod damn if csu thinks we are a rival.

3. the only thing i give a damn about is that the buffs start applying an equal opportunity ass whomping on everybody.

Which pretty much makes my point. Different people define "rival" different ways. Who cares really.
 
It has never bothered me that some fuskers don't think CU is a rival. It is still a relatively new "rivalry" in college football terms. As long as the Buffs take care of business, then it is all good.
 
There are no other "old" ones on here to ask, but my memory from the 50's is CSU was not a rival but a team we played and just had to beat otherwise it was a real upset. NU was a team we wanted to beat all the time but the team we really focused on was OU. My memories of great games in the early 50's is dominated by OU games. We used the quick kick a lot back then and I remember one game against OU where they tried it and we blocked it deep in there end. We alway gave them a great game regardless of how much higher ranked they were. OK! OK! Just an old man rambling again. Sorry.:sad2:

I think it has developed into a rivalry, not that I care what Fuskers think.


You have to realize that they deny it's a rivalry because they think it pisses us off when they do but as one who lives among them I can assure you it is a rivalry.

You don't put a buffalo head in your locker room and CU logos on the scout team helmets for a non-rivalry game.:lol:

amen.

i want our Buffs to stomp the guts out of the fuskers and i don't give a crap what they think about it. i want the Buffs to stomp the guts out of every opponent, including the sheep. of course, after the sheep game is played, i rarely give them much thought the rest of the year. hating the fuskers consumes a bit more of my attention-- i enjoy hating the fuskers. but, whether the enemy considers our Buffs as rivals is irrelevant.

not really, and that's not to put down CSU, or Sonny. I like the program and the coach a great deal. As with any team, there are fans I could do without.

BTW, I go to the CU/CSU game every year. I look at CSU, and our non-conf as important games, and the conference games as super-important games. I like the CSU matchup, and the NU matchup, but don't care if we/they are rivals.

I like the Texas, OU, matchups, and many of the other B12 schools, and I love it when we play some other big programs like FSU, ASU, Miami, Georgia...

I have just really gotten tired of this Nebraska soap opera, and the way their fans flatter themselves for no apparent reason.
 
I hate CSU one day out of the year. I love beating them and shutting up their damn fans but every other day... I could give two ****s about that school.
 
NU fans from the Big 8 days view OU as their main rival. They are still upset that that game is no longer an anual occurance. Until those people die they will always feel that way.

Since the end of the Big 8 no team has really emerged as the new thorn in their side. I would say that they should view us as their rival but they don't. To them I think means that it would be some sort of tacit acknowledgement that we are a good program that represents a threat to their success. That issue is up for debate.

I don't mind your "ramble" at all. I have an old friend who is a 1950 CU grad and when he worked for CU in housing and athletics he helped Coach Crowder start the athletic training tables. He contends that Nebraska quickly became a rival in the late 40s and 50s when they became a regular team on the schedule. He is very clear about this: the Nebraska fans were extremely obnoxious back then when they came to Boulder. They basically invited dislike because of their behavior as very poor guests. From my experience since the later part of the 60s and since then, nothing has changed. Coach Mac never started anything. He just brought it to the forefront again. Two things became coupled: 1) Nebraska was very successful and he wanted the CU program to be successful. He pointed to the NU program and said if we can beat those guys, we are becoming successful. Nebraskans should be proud that McCartney viewed them with respect on the field. 2) The continued obnoxious behavior of many, but not all, Nebraska fans fueled Colorado fans and the old dislike from the 50s came out of the doldrums that it was in during the short Fairbanks era. In short, the CU-NU rivalry has been going on for almost 60 years. That's my take.

P.S. The Buffs did point to OU as much as Nebraska back then because they were always good and it was always good to beat a good team. Nebraska really wasn't that good in the 40s and 50s. Nebraska didn't have a good team to go along with its obnoxious fans until Bob Devaney built the program in the 60s.

To me CSU and NU are both rivals. Obviously winning over NU has more implications than CSU but emotionally they're about the same
 
I have extended family from NE and have gone to NU, so I have to defend my alma mater as long as I draw breath.

I have friends that went to CSU, so I have to defend my school's honor there as well.

Just from personal dealings, they have to be rivalries to me.
 
I too don't care what nebraskans think about us, but they do seem to be obsessed with spreading dirt and lies about our fan base. If they don't think of us as a rival it's interesting that they expend so much time hating us. I'm sure one of Dr. Tom's goals will be to get Hastings or another in-state NAIA school on the schedule annually so they can play a real "rival".

I suppose as long as the red horde keeps moving to Denver in record numbers and the Gov of NE has to beg for them to move back to the cornhole, we'll always have something they won't -- a great place to live.

Kinda what I remember, growing up in the '60's. OU and NU were the focus. I really don't remember much about csewe, so I really don't think the rivalry attitude was present back then. Besides, it seems like most Buff fans view the lammies as more of an annoyance than a rivalry.

'71 is when I really began to dislike the two red teams. That Buff team was really good and the 2 losses were hard to bear. Nice ending though - Big 8 ranked 1, 2, 3 in the final polls.

Right on the money with this one. Looking at tigerboard last night those idiots act as if KU is the imposter this season and they have been on top for years. Frickin hilarious. It's so obvious that these "fans" are new to winning. I swear half of them will end up with carpel tunnel or broken wrists from patting each other on the back so much. Pathetic.

Yup, '71 was a good year. It was a nice ending. Big one for the Big 8. Big year for Colorado football. As far as the instate game went, as you know it was against Air Force. We didn't even play CSU for around 23 or 24 years. Most of us didn't know anything about their program.

i know hating the fuskers is in my dna. this just illustrates the fact.
