Realistic expectations for '14-'15

Damnit spencer...

If he comes back we are a final four team.

I don't know about that, but I would say we are a Sweet 16 team next year if everyone returns, Dinwiddie fully recovers, and Collier/Miller are as advertised.

We would definitely have the best potentially the best CU team ever without or without Spencer.

Getting a split this week would be huge, but not expecting it. ASU hasn't exactly been world beaters but we had so much trouble with them last season.

I want that game against Zona more than any others at this point. But starting with the ASU game I think we have the potential to real off 4 straight wins, which would be huge for us. Then the LA road trip starts to look more winnable as well. Gotta get that win in Phoenix though. May be vital come seeding time.

Agreed. Need a split anyway we can this week to help with momentum and our player's confidence. I know ASU's starting 2 guard Marshall was out against Zona, will he be out against us? If so, I like our chances much more against ASU as long as their center isn't allowed to push us around anymore

I hope Scott kicks his ass.

Sweet 16 would be pretty lousy given the talent coming back. Think about it with our front court (Scott and Gordon are already beasts defensively and Scott is a beast offensively), our back court (senior Ski and Spencer back), all the freshman having a full year of college development plus XJ being a upper classmen, plus adding Collier AND Miller to that. I'll get **** for this comment but I would be very disappointed with just going to the Sweet 16, just too much talent and coaching to settle for that. This years team was pushing for top 10 status before Spencer got hurt, we'd easily be a top 8-10 team next year if Dinwiddie came back. Our FTA/FGA would be exceptional again, our block% will continue to rise, and we'd be a better shooting team.

Good points. Maybe I'm aiming too low for expectations because of the crushing blow to losing Dinwiddie right at the beginning of hte conference season.

We would have plently of depth and experience at every position. Miller off the bench is crazy to think about considering he would be getting starter minutes not that long ago. He will immediatley help our front court.

I still wish we had one 3pt specialist off the bench to break down the zone like Oregon's Calliste. Maybe Thomas, Fletch, Hopkins, Talton can become that guy with another year of development? I think all have the potential to be that guy with more confidence.

Gordon to me is the key. I think he has the highest ceiling on the team. He is already a monster on the defensive end, once he gets more confidence on the offensive side, he can be really special.

Man, it would be awesome talking about next year's team if Dinwiddie returns.

Spencer IS. NOT. COMING. BACK.

Please people get this into your heads - even Boyle is publicly saying this.

Being a Final Four team is pretty tough even for a real legitimate Final Four team. CU hasn't even made it out of the first weekend in a while, getting to the Sweet 16 is still a great goal regardless of the talent on the team.

March is dominated by guard play. IF spencer returned we would have the best starting back court and one of the top backup back courts in the nation. CU would go far.

Since spencer likely isn't returning it really is just a hypothetical discussion anyway.

I think Thomas can be that guy. He was a good 3pt shooter in HS and apparently is during practice, I think he just needs to raise his confidence and he can be that guy.

I'm not expecting Spencer to come back, I was playing out the scenario where he did come back. He hasn't ruled it out though, so we'll see..

My running assumption on all of our freshmen is that they're struggling with going from having the Kevin Durant Green Light in high school to now being in a situation where they are not the best player or best scorer on the court for their team and need to be selective within the offense. This is not an easy thing.

Does every team have all of it's players return for this exercise or just CU? Yeah I get the whole "how it should work out," that doesn't mean it's going to work out that way. Going by the game being played on paper, we're not a Tourney team in 2012.

This is what I was arguing with my friends against WSU, they all said it was invalid

You are right. CU was a bubble team in 2012. Sometimes you have to be lucky as well as good.

I can only assume that your friends are clueless.

The one guy among the freshmen who played on a super-talented HS team and did AAU with other top players is J-Hop. It's not surprising that his adjustment has been the most seamless.

I think the situation you speak of is why J-Hop had been inconsistent and now that he is given more of a green light, looks much more comfortable. The last two games you can see it starting to click for Jaron.

They were trying to make the argument that all Freshman develop at the same speed basically, I was actually pretty baffled by it since they are normally well informed.

And everybody does realize if by some way/shape/form he did come back that means that something went drastically wrong with his rehab. So it's not only a terrible thing for Spencer and his career, CU likely wouldn't be getting back the same player he was before.

It's a lose lose - I hope his rehab goes great, he gets drafted in the first round and has a great career in the NBA.

WOOOO! Spencer's coming back.

As far as I can tell, spencer is not sure what he's going to do next year (now - but if asked 3 weeks ago I think we all knew the answer).

All we can do is wish spencer the best while rehabbing his knee and wait to see what he says. Until then, everything is strictly conjecture. (but it does help to pass the time)

Were not a bubble team, were out of it if we don't win the P12 Tourney.

This is just plain not true. We have a lot of work to do in the rest of the season but winning the P12 tourney is not the only way this team makes it to the Dance. Just wrong.
