Recruiting News - Olympic Sports

Thanks to my main source for volleyball commitments (*** https://www.richkern.com/vb/recruits/indexsub.asp?Div=DI&VBYear=2025), and confirmed by the below Instagram post, looks like the 2025 verbal that Coach Mahoney tweeted about (see my last post) is 5'7"-5'8" libero/ defensive specialist Nicole (Nikki) Ott, who currently attends and competes with Skutt Catholic High School in Omaha, Nebraska, and also plays club ball with VCNebraska .
(*** As always, I like to note that richkern is mainly a premium website, and the above (free) link only lists commitments for the 1st 3 days after he posts about them, so the link will no longer show Ms. Ott's commitment after a few days.)

Welcome and congrats to her!

A few links I found regarding her and volleyball:

A recruiting page - https://sportsrecruits.com/athlete/nikki_ott

HUDL page -

Her stats per Maxpreps (So far, looks like her team hasn't posted stats yet for this season, so all the stats are for last (2022, her sophomore) season.) - https://www.maxpreps.com/ne/omaha/s...-ott/volleyball/stats/?careerid=qg0rd4on9ta44

Looks like lacrosse, which unlike other Buff Olympic sports had a later (Sept. 1 vs. June 15th) start to their recruiting period for the prep junior (2025) class, has per the below tweet picked up its 1st verbal commiment for that class. She is 5'5" defender and midfielder Ryann McLeod, who attends and competes at Plant High School in Tampa, Florida, and also plays ball with the Limitless Club.

Welcome and congrats to her!

A few links with info on her:

A recruiting page with some highlight videos - https://iwlca.sportsrecruits.com/athlete/ryann_mcleod

Her high school stats - https://www.maxpreps.com/fl/tampa/p.../lacrosse/girls/stats/?careerid=r44n5vv9k5l33

Per https://www.usalaxmagazine.com/high...sse-announces-high-school-girls-all-americans, she was one of ~31 student-athletes, only 5 of whom are part of the Class of 2025, to be named All-Americans from Florida by USA Lacrosse (Magazine).

_____________________________________________________________________________________

Not related to Ms. McLeod, but since doing a Google search on her found the (ast link above to USA Lacrosse's All-American list, thought I'd look and see who in the 2023 and 2024 classes might also have been named. Per the link, other future Buffs who were acknowledged were:

Frosh class of 2023:
Averi Gardner (Colorado)
Teagan Ryan (New York - Section 1)
Natalie Myslinski (New York - Section 6)

Frosh class of 2024 (only verbal commitments at this time):
Elena Oh (North Carolina)
Briley Volpp (California - San Diego)

According to my main non-social media source for lacrosse commits (https://www.insidelacrosse.com/recruiting/commitments/girls?class=2025&league=6), looks like the team may have picked up 2 more for the class of 2025. They are:

  • 5'5" midfielder/ defender Parker Lemm, who attends and competes for Lake Oswego High School in the Oregon town of the same name, as well as playing club ball at (MOJO) Oregon Pride.
  • 5'3" attacker/ midfielder Georgia Rios, who attends and competes for Conestoga High School in Berwyn, PA. She also plays club ball at Philly Blast Lacrosse.
A few links with some info on each:

Parker Lemm:

She was named one of Oregon's "top stars of lacrosse" per https://highschool.si.com/oregon/20...ool-girls-lacrosse-meet-the-top-stars-of-2023 , which also gives some of her accolades and basic stats for last season.

Per one of my main (non-social media) sources for commitments in the sport (https://www.milesplit.com/signings?year=2024&sortBy=college&collegeSearch=university+of+colorado ), looks like track and field has the 1st 2 known verbals (both on the women's side) for the 2024/25 frosh class. They are:
  • Hurdler/ sprinter Abby Miller, who currently attends and competes at Summit High School in Spring Hill, Tennessee.
  • Distance/ middle distance runner Emma Zawatski, who currently attends and competes at Freehold Township HS in Freehold, New Jersey.
Welcome and congrats to both!

Per my main (non-social media) source for soccer commitments (https://www.topdrawersoccer.com/col...lorado/clgid-205/tab-commitments#sectionblock) , looks like the team has picked up a new 2025 verbal. She is midfielder Viviana Zacarias, who attends and competes at Los Alamitos HS (in the city of the same name) while also playing club ball with Slammers FC HB Koge.
(Note - based on the date of the below Instagram post from her club team, assume she MAY (???) be the player Coach Sanchez tweeted about in the tweet I posted back on 9/5 (post #715).)

Welcome and congrats to her!

A little more info:

Her Maxpreps HS stats (looks like soccer is a winter sport in California, so the 2023/24 season hasn't begun.) - https://www.maxpreps.com/ca/los-ala...as/soccer/girls/stats/?careerid=l49pkmc359vh1

A webpage with her club team's results - https://tgs.totalglobalsports.com/public/TeamProfile.aspx?t=8995&oid=9

Per https://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/so...rge-is-the-o-c-player-of-the-year/ar-AA19cfGJ , she was named 1st Team All-Orange County after last season. (The only sophomore named 1st Team.)

My main source for track and field commitments (https://www.milesplit.com/signings?year=2024&sortBy=college&collegeSearch=university+of+colorado, and confirmed via her Instagram post below) shows a 3rd verbal commitment to CU for next academic year (2023/24), and its a 3rd woman. (See post #724 for the other 2.) This time it's a local product, sprinter/ long jumper Myla Wilkes, who attends and competes at Erie HS.

Welcome and congrats to her!

Her T & F results - https://www.athletic.net/athlete/18456327/track-and-field/high-school
(She had a great junior season earlier this year, winning the largest school (5A) state championships in both the 200M and long jump, while also finishing 3rd in the 100M.)

According to my main non-social media source for lacrosse commits (https://www.insidelacrosse.com/recruiting/commitments/girls?class=2025&league=6), looks like the team has picked up a 3rd 4th verbal commitment for the freshman class of 2025/26. (The 1st 3 were already noted in posts 723 & 722 above.) The latest is 5'7" defender/ midfielder Haylie Abrams, who currently attends and competes at Shoreham-Wading River High School in Shoreham, NY. She also plays club ball with Long Island Top Guns Lacrosse.

Welcome and congrats to her!

Can't find a 2nd source yet, but since the below tweet DOES look to be from a legitimate club team Twitter account, felt safe to say it looks like soccer may have a new 2025 commitment. She plays at the always vital position of goalie, and is Chloe Zipprich, who plays club ball on the Chicago FC United Club's 2007 Girls Academy team. (Academically, she attends Loyola Academy in Wilmette, Illinois, but couldn't find any indication whether or not she plays on her school's soccer team.)

Welcome and congrats to her!

1st seen in my main (non-social media) source for lacrosse commitments (https://www.insidelacrosse.com/recruiting/commitments/girls?class=2025&league=6), and confirmed via the below Instagram post, looks like the team has picked up its 5th frosh class of 2025 commitment. She is 5'6" defender Ingrid Kavanagh, who attends and competes with Loyola Acadamy in Wilmette, Illinois. She also competes with the Team One club program.

Welcome and congrats to her!

Per https://americanselectlacrosse.com/midwest-rosters-2023 , she was selected to the 2025 Midwest team for the American Select showcase.

Per https://www.journal-topics.com/articles/15-girls-lacrosse-players-earn-all-state-honors/ , she was named 2nd Team All-State after this past (her sophomore) season.

Based on the timing, I'd GUESS the odds are it might be an incoming transfer, but one way or the other it looks like, per the below, that volleyball has picked up an additional 2024 commitment! (No sign from my few net sources at this point who it might be, but given the timing I'd assume they'll be identified soon.)

I missed it earlier, but late last September lacrosse looks to have received a couple commitments from a set of twins for the 2025/26 frosh class. They are 5'6" midfielders Charlotte and Sophia Yeskulsky, who both attend San Clemente HS in the city of the same name in California, while also competing with the Alliance Lacrosse Club.

Welcome and congrats to them!

From Coach Sanchez including a post she made while, I assume, on a current campus visit, looks like in early February soccer received a 2025 verbal commitment I didn't previously know about. She is midfielder and forward Madison (Maddie) Sharrer, who currently competes with and attends Kamehameha Kapalama High School in Honolulu (the below recruiting page linked to below says her hometown is Pearl City), as well as playing club ball with Hawaii Rush Soccer Club.

Welcome and congrats to her!

It doesn't list many, but from a new source ( https://sportsrecruits.com/athletic...occer/colorado/university_of_colorado_boulder ) I found listing at least a few Buff commits for varous sports, there is one 2025 frosh lacrosse verbal commit that wasn't known or noted before in this thread. (Looks like per the below Instagram post she probably committed last October.) She is 5'2" attacker / midfielder Rowan Edson, who currently competes with and attends Horace Greeley HS in Chappaqua, NY, and also plays club ball with Prime Time Lacrosse.

Welcome and congrats to her!

Looks like volleyball has picked up a new addition for next (2024) season!

My initial QUICK search hasn't identified who yet, but usually it comes out in a day or two (especially if not an international player).

(Given how late it is for 2024's in general, my usual guess this time of the year is that the student-athlete is likely to be a transfer, and that might still be my guess if I had to bet on it. However, the team has also been tweeting out a lot lately about coaches and staff going out to various youth club tourneys the last month or so, so it could also very well be a late commit from an incoming frosh S-A.)

A few days ago, the track and field group announced a late addition to next season's (2024/25 academic year) frosh class for the men's team. He is hurdler / sprinter Cayden Roberson, who is from Eastvale, California, and currently attends and competes with Roosevelt HS.

OFFICIAL welcome and congrats to him!

Looks like the latest T & F commit had a nice race -

The volleyball team formally announced 3 more members to next season’s frosh class.***

They are:

  • 6’0” Middle Blocker/Opposite Tatum Johnson (See posts 705-706 in this thread for more on her when her verbal commitment was 1st learned of.)
  • 5’7” Setter / Defensive Specialist Katie Salonga (See posts 696-697 in this thread for more on her when her verbal commitment was 1st learned of.)
  • 6’1”-6’2” Polish middle blocker Maria Splawska###
(### Since Ms. Splawska is the one I did not know previously about, I’d GUESS (???) she may have been the commit that Coach Mahoney was tweeting about in my post #735 above.)

OFFICIAL welcome and congrats to the new vball Buffs!

(***These 3 join 6’1” outside hitter Gwenyth (Gwen) Schiff, who was the only frosh vball Buff formally announced when the signing period began back on last November 8th. Article on the 3 newest signings - https://cubuffs.com/news/2024/4/20/volleyball-buffs-welcome-three-2024-recruits-to-the-team

BOULDER -- The Colorado Buffaloes volleyball team welcomed three additional student-athletes to the 2024 recruiting class, head coach Jesse Mahoney announced Wednesday. Tatum Johnson, Katie Salonga and Maria Splawska will join Sarah Morton and Gwen Schiff to complete an exciting class that will have an immediate impact as the Buffs move into the Big 12 Conference.
"We are very excited about adding Maria, Katie and Tatum to what is becoming a very talented 2024 class joining us this summer," head coach Jesse Mahoney stated. "All three are competitive and hard-working student-athletes but most importantly, they are great people who will thrive in our program and team culture here at Colorado.
TATUM JOHNSON
Tatum Johnson is a Middle Blocker/Opposite from JSerra High School, and hails from Laguna Beach, California. Johnson broke single-season school record for JSerra in 2021 for most blocks in a season, and played varsity all four years. Her team made it to the sectional semi-finals in all four years she was on the team. She recently helped lead her junior club team to a Top-20 finish at the USAV Girls Junior National Championships.
She currently plays for Wave Volleyball Club in California, the same club that produced current Buffs, Cayla Payne and Lily Dwinell. Johnson chose Colorado because, " "I love the people and morals at the school. Everything about it drew me in and the campus is beautiful." She plans to major in Psychology when she gets to CU.
"Tatum is another versatile player who has the ability and skill set to play multiple positions at the net," coach Mahoney stated. "She is an explosive and dynamic athlete with a fast arm and a high motor and we expect her to add depth at both the Middle and Opposite positions. Tatum plays with a great competitive energy and we are excited for her to join our core of attackers."

Tatum's highlight video can be found here.

KATIE SALONGA
Katie Salonga is a S/DS from Foothills High, and is from Pleasanton, California. She comes to Boulder as a recipient of CU's Presidential Scholarship. Salonga was a 4-year CIF Distinguished Scholar (CA) and Cal High Sports NCS Scholar Athlete of the Year in 2023-2024. She looks to major in Integrated Psychology upon her arrival this Fall.
While a standout player on the court, Salonga was a multi-sport athlete in high school. She lettered in both Track and Field and Beach Volleyball multiple times. Salonga was a four-year starter for the volleyball team at Foothills High, and was captain two of those years. They went 37-2 her senior year, before her team lost in the state semi-finals.
Salonga chose Colorado because, "Of the high quality academics and athletics, the gorgeous location, unbelievable facilities and the people were amazing."
"With both parents being coaches, Katie is a true gym rat raised with a passion for the game," Jesse Mahoney stated. "She has a broad skill-set and will see time training in both the Setter and Libero spots. Her energy is infectious and Buff fans will love watching her fly around the court."

Katie's highlight video can be found here.

MARIA SPLAWSKA
Maria Splawska is a 6'2 Middle Blocker from Stezyca, Poland and will bring high-level international experience to the Buffs this Fall. Maria's club team, GKS Wiezyca 2011 Stezyca, recently won the 2024 Polish Junior Club National Championship. Earlier this year, she was named the best middle blocker at the 2024 EEVZA U20 Qualifications. Splawska is a member of the Polish Junior and Senior National teams. She intends to major in Business upon her arrival to Boulder.
She chose Colorado because, "There are great people there who I believe will be the right people to help me achieve my goals. In addition, Colorado offers great conditions for development in the context of sports and science."
"Maria is a powerful and athletic Middle Blocker who is a product of the Polish National Team pipeline," Mahoney said. "She is versatile as an attacker, comfortable off of two-feet as well as running the slide. I've been most impressed with Maria as a blocker – she has a high motor and great physicality at the net. Her experience playing at the International level will help her quickly transition to the collegiate game."

Women's golf announced a couple days ago that it has picked up a late commitment for next academic year (2024/25). She is Irishwoman Ellen O'Shaughnessy, who hails from Dublin.

Ireland Junior Golfer Of The Year O’Shaughnessy Signs NLI

By: Troy Andre, Associate Director/Athletic Communications

BOULDER
— Ellen O'Shaughnessy has signed a National Letter of Intent to play golf and continue her education at the University of Colorado in 2024-25.

A native of Dublin, O'Shaughnessy won the Girls 2023 Ireland U18 Order of Merit as the country's U18 Golfer of the Year. She had six top 20 finishes during the 2023 amateur season and was the runner up at the Ulster Girls Open, Leinster Girls Open and the Connaght Girls Open.

O'Shaughnessy was a member of Ireland's U18 Girls Team at the 2024 Ireland vs. Wales 2-day International and the 2023 R&A Girls and Boys Home Internationals. She was a member the Leinster U18 Girls Team for a pair of Ireland Interprovincial Championship teams in 2021 and '23.

"I chose Colorado as I wanted to join a roster that was competitive in NCAA Division I with potential and ambition to make nationals," O'Shaughnessy said. "I also felt CU is a strong team to which I can bring international experience from playing with Team Ireland and make an immediate impact from my freshman year. I made a strong connection with the coaching staff and coach (Madeleine) Sheils in particular. She is ambitious for the program and brings a wealth of playing and coaching experience to the group."

O'Shaughnessy's best career round in competition was a 4-under 68 during the second round of stroke play at the 2023 Irish Women's Close Championship at the Connemara Golf Club.

Soon to be a graduate of Mount Sackville Secondary School, Sisters of St. Joseph of Cluny, O'Shaughnessy was a four-year participant in Golf Ireland National Development Panels, including the 2024 Ireland High Performance Panel U18.

"We are thrilled to welcome Ellen to Boulder this fall," said associate head coach Madeleine Sheils who will take over the Colorado program this summer with the retirement of long-time head coach Anne Kelly.

"Ellen is intelligent, athletic, and a hard-working player whose game has really started to take off in the last couple years. As a member of the Irish National Team, she is a proven winner at home. We could tell from the moment Ellen and her parents stepped on campus that she would be a natural fit for our program. I'm excited for how her dedicated and determined mindset and sharp sense of humor will help elevate the Buffs in 2024 and beyond."
