I think that being the superior player and dominating the opposition has come so naturally for DS, that he is a bit shellshocked right now. I think DHagen is just trying to get him into the mindset of how tough this is when you are not 100% healthy and 200% better than anyone else on the field. I am sure that he has talked more privately to DS about the blocking issues and line continuity (plus the caliber of defenses we have played this year with that hurt and ever changing OL), if the OL has to go out and play hurt, then everyone has too. It is a good lesson that DS is learning right now. And if he can't handle that, then he is not tough enough mentally to play college ball anyway.
I think some people here may never have played football. Even in HS the coaches rag your ass out everyday, and mistakes are called out for all to see and your toughness is questioned in front of the team daily. If you can't handle that, you will not be a big time player. you can't go on a field and dominate if you are a sweet guy who just wants to be everyone's friend. You have to have an attitude that you are better than everyone else and you will kick anyones ass who says otherwise. DS did not have that atitude so much, because he really WAS the dominant player who kicked everyone elses ass. Now it is not as apparent, and he will have to learn to have more grit and fight. This is all a good thing IMO. I hate to have the 'wait till next year' feeling, but these kids with more strength training, proper diets, pushed by peers, and a OL with capable starters and tested and experienced backups will look alot different. Even if hansen does not play this year, hawk's statement gives a bit more credence to the rumours we have heard on how Tyler is doing. QB battle will be interesting in the offseason.
