SDSU Student Chant - "I Believe"

Not sure how many of you have seen this, but it gives me chills every time I see it, absolutely one of the most intimidating things I've seen at the college level.

I've been talking a little bit with those close to the program and trying to make some waves on this... would you guys be in favor of doing something similar to this and changing the words to the following...

"You are Now at Altitude"... Ideally we'd do it again just prior to the 2nd half and change it to "You are STILL at Altitude"... Thoughts?

I think one of the key things we are missing is 2 or 3 individuals who are either on the court in front of the section or down in the front row to start cheers like this. At SDSU they have 1 or 2 guys down there to lead it. Its a matter of getting the student section aware of whats going on, thats the hardest part.

Unfortunately our "Cheerleaders" kinda suck in the department of leading cheers.

I would have to hear it done by the student section to see how it would sound. I do like the idea of getting a recognizable, uniquely Colorado, cheer started. All the big programs have something. We are on our way there, its time we make a mark of some kind.

Like the idea but it seems a little clunky. How bout shorten it to "YOU'RE AT......ALTITUDE!" "YOU'RE AT....ALTITUDE!"

these sound like it would require the rest of the arena to respond, right? The student section needs something. Thats a recognizable part of the CUnit

That reminded me of this. It may be in the Youtube thread; CRAZY!

TZISKIN, so far the few band members I have spoken with like the idea, if it can be coordinated. In order to do it though, you are going to have coordinate with the headset crew there in the arena, and marketing. We are told to play pretty much up until tip off by the people in charge. Change it with them so they can relay the info to our director and we would be glad to be a part of it. (We are pretty good at being loud, and coordinated)

:eviltongue: Imagine how CSU fans would act if they suddenly made a good coaching hire, found a once in a lifetime quarterback (who fights dogs on the side and whose ), became a top 25 program, and joined a BCS conference. Those are Hokies for you. That said, it's a nice thing they have going at this zenith of their football existence, and Lane does get loud.

If we do a chant it better be original. No copy cat b.s. like all these other schools with the winning team and i believe chants.

I agree and I think TZ does too which is why he is suggesting taking the rhythm from the I believe chant but making it a Colorado chant.

I love the idea for "you're at altitude". Mentally it sounds awesome to me. Not sure how it would play in real life, but I would like the student section to try it. I would join in from my seat. I'm sure snow and nik would follow my lead :smile2:

Right on - Cool last 5 ticks of a game nonetheless.

They do it for their entry on to the field as well. Their fans do an extremely loud "LET'S GO.....HOKIES" chant (think WE ARE....PENN STATE) and then Enter Sandman starts playing and everyone goes absolutely crazy. Add that in with the pain in the ass it is to get to Blacksburg (ACC version of Pullman, Washington), and it's easy to see why they've been so successful at home. For a stadium that seats 66k, it packs a punch of about 85k in terms of sound. Jethro knows how to get loud.

Love the idea. Just have to find something that sticks.

How about: FIVE THOUSAND.....THREE HUNDRED.....FORTY FIVE.....FEET!

Or: Where's my oxygen? (clap, clap, clap clap clap)

Or: We got oxygen, yes we do, we got oxygen, how bout you?

Or: teach the band to play part of "Barely Breathing" by Duncan Sheik (actually, this one kind of works...I am barely breathing, I can't find the air, don't known who I'm kidding, imagining you care")

Problem with the band one is that we either have to pay for the rights to use the music (expensive) or get a student to create an arrangement and that probably wouldnt be ready in time for this season.

Like the idea but it seems a little clunky. How bout shorten it to "YOU'RE AT......ALTITUDE!" "YOU'RE AT....ALTITUDE!"

If you want it to be like "I Believe" that doesn't work... "You are Now at Altitude" matches "I Believe that We Will Win" because they say the first 4 words... and then for the final part of the chant include "Will Win" 2 syllables just like Altitude.

Would go...

You...
You Are...
You are Now...
You are Now At...

You are Now at Altitude...You Are Now at Altitude...You are Now at Altitude... etc...

would be extremely intimidating considering the altitude is already a factor for road teams... getting it screamed into their brains prior to tipoff? You know teams will be rattled.

As for the issue with people leading the cheers... would be ideal for the marketing team to get signs that the cheerleaders would hold up in front of the student section... very easy to do and also gets the cheerleaders involved.

There are moving parts no doubt, and I've talked with the marketing department a little bit already, I may be sitting in on a meeting next week... we'll see, but I do think we can get this done.
