Greetings, Buff fans, from www.cuatthegame.com
It’s rivalry week for the Colorado Buffaloes, whether our friends from Nebraska will admit it or not. The Buffs are in a "win-and-your-in" position for the second year in a row, and for the fourth time in the past 11 seasons.
A victory over the Cornhuskers will put the Buffs in a bowl for the second year in succession, with a winning season still there for the taking. A loss, conversely, leaves the Buffs with a 5-7 record and an early end to the 2008 season.
How can the Buffs defeat the 7-4 Cornhuskers? Glad you asked. In this week’s "T.I.P.S.", you will find:
T - Talent. The long list of Buff wounded continues to grow. It appears that CU will be without its starting safeties for the second consecutive game. But what is there to make of the shoulder injury to Nebraska quarterback Joe Ganz?;
I - Intangibles. Just like last season, the Buffs are faced with a black and white scenario. A win equals a bowl game. A loss sends Colorado home for the year. Are the young Buffs equal to the task?
P - Preparation / Schedule. Despite all of the rivalry games this past weekend, only three mattered to me: CSU/Wyoming; Utah/BYU; and UNLV/San Diego State. How the results of these three games will drop the Buffs ten spots in the 2009 preseason magazine rankings.
S - Stats. Where are the *****s in the Nebraska armor? While the Cornhuskers’ pass defense is porous (in the Big 12, whose isn’t), I have found two other stats to keep an eye on this weekend which can contribute mightily to a Colorado victory.
Of course, on the site, you will also find "This Day in History" featuring the 1997 Colorado/Nebraska game;
"Nebraska Trivia you Need to Know"; and the
Archive Game of the Week: #9 Colorado v. #3 Nebraska in Lincoln. The 1990 game was to decide the Big Eight’s Orange Bowl representative, and give the winner a potential shot at a national championship.
It's rivalry week! A win, and we get a bowl. A loss, and we get to hear from CSU fans all winter about their bowl trip - that should be incentive enough for the Buffs!
Go Buffs!
