The Mayor took office in Detroit tonight

12 points, 9 assists and 3 steals in a win over Chicago.

Brandon Jennings is out for the year with a torn Achilles, so Spencer got the start.

It will be interesting to watch where his minutes go, though, since Detroit just acquired Reggie Jackson in a trade and he wasn't cleared to play tonight. I think Spencer will end up beating out Jackson, actually. Much more efficient player. And it wouldn't surprise me if the Pistons found a way to deal Jennings.

Excellent! Really crucial for him to have seized this opportunity.

I've been pretty out of the loop this year in the NBA, but I'm hoping the Thunder bringing in Kyle Singler isn't going to be a problem for Andre.

He only had 2 turnovers with his 9 assists and the team was +19 when he was in the game.

His highlights from last night, h/t to SDbuff

I love that he's playing for a top tier coach like svg. For once I didn't mind watching Brandon Jennings.

Playing against Derrick Rose. Rose isn't what he is healthy but against Spencer he only had 8 points on 2-9 shooting. Excellent all around game for a guy who wasn't supposed to play this year.

I'd temper expectations a bit. Usually takes a couple full seasons to return to form. I'd say by his 3rd season, he might be ready to take the starting spot.

3 YEARS?

Reggie Jackson is a stud. He happens to play the same position, and he's about to get paid. I love Spencers game, but this isn't great news at all for him. I wish some on this board would temper expectations a little. Spencer will be fine down the road, but I doubt he's going to start over Reggie anytime soon.

Dinwiddie didn't get the start last night but the team won again and was +9 while he was in the game. 0-6 shooting but 7 assists with 2 turnovers.

Sounds about right to me. If it is so far fetched, then by all means, share when you think he'll be the starter of a NBA team

I think the Detroit pick was always a long term pick. He slipped because teams knew he would take a few years to return to form. It's hard enough to adjust to the NBA game, but he has to get past the mental aspect and that is trusting his body to do the same things it could do pre injury. All of these things seem very obvious to me

I want to see Spencer ease into a starter's role, and get increased minutes, but it isn't likely to happen right away for him

Jackson is a shoot first point guard and might be more dangerous at the 2. Offensively he was similar to Westbrook but he doesn't have the same strength nor defensive tenacity.

the Mayor has that floor general mentality and plays decent defense. If he continues to improve on those traits Detroit may have a hard time keeping him off the floor in the future.

Don't miss the follow dunk to take the lead @ 1:38.

In his DP interview, Tad said this year's team was built around SD and that him leaving early is one of the issues we have this year. No one filled the void.
