Top 25 & Other Hoops Games - Week 13

CU is playing some excellent ball, but we haven't had that "signature win" to break into the rankings. First game was the close loss to Iowa State, then we rolled until SMU, and then opened conference play with the loss at Cal.

Beating Oregon would be huge, but this will be a tough one. We are progressing as a team, though.

I was at the game yesterday, and the story of that game was aggressive, relentless defense. Hoping we can do that on the road this week!
So, beating Oregon in Boulder didn't count?

The loss to Utah stands out. If CU does not collapse, CU would be tied atop the Pac12 standings and you would think they could not be overlooked as they are currently.

Perhaps this is good fuel for the team, additional motivation while on the road this week.

The way they are playing now is very different than the way they were playing then. Also Oregon was not ranked at that point. They are now. Thus a road win against a ranked opponent would be a signature win.

Oregon had just kicked Utah's ass by 18 in SLC when they faced us. We're their only loss since Jan 3. So their impressive form has arguably began by the time we played in Boulder

Bummer is, if the Buffs win at Eugene, Oregon may drop out of rankings. It's a vicious, cannibalistic PAC12 this year.

And they blew it. CSU starting hot against SDSU. Not sure how much any CSU win helps at this point, but any boost is nice.

We need them Top 150. Top 100 might be out of reach, but 150 puts it in the "quality road win" resume category.

#11 Providence just lost at friggin' DePaul. So hard to win conference road games.

Goats up 10 at STDSU in the first half. Would be a nice win for the goats.

Goats miss a wide open layup at the buzzer for the tie. STDSU wins.

On sports center the said DePaul is just outside chicago. Isn't DePaul on the redline just before Wrigley?

Arizona has the history to pull some bull**** and schedule their nonconference at a rank of 303, but that's sad, really really sad. USC, Cal, Coloardo all could do better on scheduling tougher opponents. It's the only logical explanation I can come up with for arguments against not ranking the Buffs.

Oregon - 147
Arizona - 303
USC - 217
Utah - 188
California - 231
Colorado - 256

Not a ton of great other games today

UVA is up 40-31 at Pittsburgh early in the 2nd. Big ACC implications in this one. Pitt needs a signature win.

VCU up 42-33 on George Washington. Bubble implications in this one. VCU RPI 33, GW 52

FSU up 43-33 at Wake. Noles are right on the bubble (RPI 38).

UVA wins at Pitt 64-50. They've now won 6 in a row and smashed Louisville and Pitt on the road over the last week. Look to be finding their form at a good time. Pitt is a good side, but they really need to add some quality wins. Beating Syracuse at home without Boeheim and winning at Notre Dame is all they have to offer right now.

FSU taking care of business at Wake, 77-64

#6 Xavier up 75-74 on Marquette

VCU and GW tied at 64-64

Edit: GW wins 72-69 at VCU. Huge win for GW, not great for other bubble sides. GW is now all the way up to 35 (from 52). Not easy to go into VCU - a side that had won 11 straight and was enjoying their 79th consecutive sellout today - and get the W.

Michigan getting rocked at home by Michigan State, 52-35. This was a key home stretch for UM against IU and MSU. Leaves the Wolverines in a far shakier position

Strong win by Villanova at Providence. On the heels of dropping the game to DePaul, Friars are looking at dropping from #11 to maybe outside the Top 25.

Nova building their case for a 1 seed, though Oklahoma and Virginia both beat Nova soundly should it come down to Nova being damn near dead even with one of those two.

#25 South Carolina wins at #8 Texas A&M, 81-78. Personally was not buying the Aggies as team pushing the top 5, but still a very nice win for Frank Martin.

Illinois St knocked off #21 Wichita St in Normal tonight. They have a very modest two game winning streak against the Shockers.
