The Buff 4X400M team comes in 8th in their heat (and over 4 seconds slower than their seasons best), so won't qualify for the finals. Still a great accomplishment in being the 1st Buff team to qualify in this event in a LONG time.

As a reminder, the video link in the above tweet does provide links to individual feeds, which include coverage of each individual heptathlon event (except for those that will be carried by the TV broadcast, which look to be the final events for each day, the 200M today and the 800M run tomorrow).

Also, hope the Buffs are able to complete their Buff careers with a FULL competition, often a challenge in the multi-events, with I assume the Texas heat not helping matters. (Of the 24 decathletes who qualified and declared for these Championships, 9 didn't compete in the final event (1500M run) last night for one reason or another.)

Heat/ flight info for the Buff heptathletes (Scheduled start time (converted to Mountain time) in parentheses) -

Today:

100M Hurdles (1:30 PM) - Both in heat 3;
High jump (2:30 PM) - Wichhart-Donzo in flight 1, Wenning in 2;
Shot put (4:30 PM) - Both in flight 1;
200M sprint (8:13 PM) - Wichhart-Donzo in heat 2, Wenning in 3;

Tomorrow:
Long Jump (12:30 PM) - Wichhart-Donzo in flight 1, Wenning in 2;
Javelin (1:45 PM) - Both in flight 1;
800M run (6:13 PM) - Believe all competitors run together.

(Note - Of course every competition is unique, but with the Buffs coming in with the #17 and (Tied for) #19 qualifying scores (Wichhart-Donzo with a 5,600 point season's best and Wenning 5,585), it will take a GREAT result for either to get into the top 8 (point scoring) places. For either Buff, earning 2nd team All-American honors with a top 16 finish will be a VERY solid result.

Purely based on seasons' bests, looks like host Texas athlete Ashtin Zamzow (6148 pts. season's best) may be the favorite, with Miami (FL)'s Michelle Atherley (5966) and UC- Santa Barbara's Hope Bender (5944) in the 2nd tier, before there's a decent-sized gap in points before the 4th seeded athlete who has a 5806 points season's best.)

Track coverage has started on ESPN2, with the 1st Buff (Eduardo Herrera) racing in the 1500M final in 8-9 minutes or so.

Announcers saying the humidity is down some today, so should be easier for the distance runners.

Last event of day #1 for the heptathletes around 12 minutes away.

And, last male Buff competitor John Dressel will be starting in the 5000M in about 25 minutes.

Running on relatively tired legs against a fresher field (he had run the 10000M a couple days ago), junior John Dressel still leaves it out there to earn a 2nd 2nd Team All-American honor.

And, congrats to former conference-mate Texas Tech for winning, I believe the announcer said, their 1st ever NCAA Team Outdoor Track and Field Championship.

The telecast has begun.

Hope the Buffs competing will be able to have cool thoughts, as the announcer said it's 98 degrees today in Austin and, even with humidity lower than some of the prior days, the heat index is still into the 100's.

Senior Val Constien now on deck as one of the 12 finalists in the women's steeplechase, now the next race on the track.

Edit- After the men were in black unis in the heat yesterday, good to see the Buff women in white today.

Thanks for the nudge, AztecBuff. Watching it now!

The favorite in this race is a tough smaller runner from Boise State and Alaska (Allie Ostrander). She typically would start a hard pace pretty soon, but she is going to try and double back in the 5000M in only an hour and a half or so. So, it will be interesting to see if she holds up running hard until nearer the end of this race than normal.

Great to see the 2 Buff heptathletes giving it all til the end, with senior Maja Wichhart-Donzo finishing 2nd in her heat of what must be a brutal ending event, the 800M run.

After yesterday, I thought she might have a chance at finishing top 16 and so earn 2nd Team All-American honors, but when I looked today her 200M result was zeroed out with a disqualification (which in a sprint almost always means she probably stepped over her lane line at some time, probably on the turn). So, she and fellow-senior Michaela Wenning were running and competing for pride today, and did all Buffs proud.

For any general track and field fans out there, looks like we're going to have a classic track and field meet finish, with USC and Arkansas tied for 1st in points with only the 4X400M relay left, and both teams are in the relay.

Well, USC, which had the better time in the relay going in, drops the baton during the 3rd leg of the relay, so looks like Arkansas is going to be the team Champion. Oh well, one less championship for the Conference of Champions.
