The last 7 guys we need to land

This team needs athletes at all positions.

If they all end up on the DL in the rotation great. We may also see some end up moving to other positions, maybe offensive line, also possible that somebody ends up as a big nasty OLB or as a killer ILB.

Is this based on the numbers and probabilities, or something you've heard about a couple of these kids?

Something I've heard. There are a few guys in this class who have some work to do to get qualified.

Yeah, that's what I was afraid of. I know Jagne was discussed before, I REALLY hope he makes it in. JE's already said he won't sign anyone he doesn't have a spot for, I'm wondering if the staff's just willing to take a few chances with a big class coming in this year, then use the schollies from any non-qualifiers to bulk up next year's numbers?

My updated top 7 now that we have landed 1 of them and saw others come of the board.
Yuri DB
Crawley DB
Rippy LB
Jacobs LB
Solomon S
Brostek...perhaps a long shot at this point OG
Jeff Hall/Jeff Coprich ATH

I listed 7 more since there are whispers of a couple of potential commits not qualifying.

I'd guess that we get a couple of those guys. Crawley, Rippy and Hall being the most likely. Solomon is a wildcard due to academic issues.

I'd also guess that we probably get 2 or 3 guys that none of us are talking about right now.

To bad we couldn't have closed the borders down in CO. this year. There was almost 10 4 star players out of the state this year and we didn't land a single one of them.

Rivals shows 6 and Scout 4 four star CO kids, but yeah, that "was almost 10." Demerits for both grammar and counting.

1. Cyler Miles
2. Evan Baylis
3. Paul Thurston
4. Shane Callahan
5. Joey O'Connor
6. Alex Kozan

Good call. I hadn't looked in a while but I thought Arthur Flores showed up on some boards as a 4 star guy. Clearly my math was off. I was shooting from the hip.

My point still stands. We whiffed big time in state this year.
That is also 6 more 4 star guys than we currently have committed.

3. Paul Thurston
4. Shane Callahan

Would have liked to have all of them but.
1) Miles was out as soon as Dillon was in, Miles is a tremendous athlete but as a QB I would rather have Dillon (I also don't think that Miles should have been rated the number 1 prospect in the state.)
2) Baylis is a hard one to figure out but he got offered by a team that has been a top 10 team for the last couple of years. Again as a TE in Embrees system I don't know if he is going to be a good enough blocker from the TE position, will be interesting to see if he justifies his rating.
3) Thurston turned off to CU by Hawkins, hard to get him back. Can't figure out the Nebraska stuff but he has some connections there.
4) Callahan, this one does really hurt. I think he is going to be a very good player and CU is going to wish he was a Buff. Auburn coming off a NC year, OL coach established relationship with Callahan while he was here at CU. Would love to see him turned before LOI day but realistically its not going to happen. Ouch. .
5) O'Connor. Was set from the beginning on going out of state. Again I would have liked to have him, his offer list speaks for itself but this ship sailed before Embree ever got here.
6). Kozan. If he were to decide to go to CU welcome, if not I'm not disapointed. I am getting the impression that the Valor kids may in general be overrated and a lot of them are attitude or head cases. Another kid who could turn out to be a good player but I think there are other kids from out of state who are rated lower who will be better players in the long run.

I also wonder about these rankings. Kevin Davis just got listed as a HS all-America and having seen him in person I wonder if he could make a dent in the PAC, there is a reason he ended up at CSU. I think Norgard is a better player and prospect than at least 3 of these kids. Hennington would have also been much higher rated had he played the game and collected offers and cooperated with the services. The idea that CU got shut out in Colorado is plain wrong, there are kids we would have liked to have and aren't getting but no it isn't a shut out by any means.

That said in the future we need to get more of the top Colorado kids, we won't get all of them but we need to get more when there are top quality kids to get.

We were pretty close to shout out. We landed the 7th and 8th rated prospects in the state and our coach is supposed to be a talented recruiter along with the OC. We also missed on some of the top in state guys last year. This needs to change for next year. I don't think there should be any excuses about it either.

We do need to do better in the future but I also think that the idea that the we got the 7th and the 8th is a farce, when does CU or any other school start letting a bunch of internet geeks determine who is or isn't the best player for them. As I stated a couple of the guys on that list I would have really liked to have and in the future we need to be in on them. A couple of the others, not so much neccissarily.

Recruiting is built on relationships and those take time, it is also built on success. Embree and Co. have to work to establish both before we can start expecting them to walk in and get top guys consistently.

Why bring up last year and THESE coaches. Embree barely had time to sit down and the 2011 cycle was all over. I do not hold them responsible for 2011 class. I will from here on out though.

I was just pointing out that the program at CU can't seem to keep the in state guys from leaving. It wasn't a diss on Embree however to this point I have not been impressed with his ability to recruit. If we get Crawley and Yuri I will at least grade this class at meeting expectations. If we land 0 4 star recruits then you would have to say he didn't do a good enough job.

I have high standards even though the program has been down for about ten years now. That's about all I will say negative about Embree because I still believe he was a very good hire for this program.

I think I'll go ahead and see what happens on the field, the only place it counts. Embree can sign all straight 2 star classes if he wins the PAC-12 south in a couple of years and/or finishes with a great bowl game.

Beat me to it, Z, but I was typing the same reply. I will judge Embo on wins and losses, not recruiting rankings.

I will have to disagree with you guys on that. You can pretty easily correlate good recruinting with wins and losses. We can bring in all the 2 star Tyler Hansen's we want but 95 times out of 100 the USC's are going to prevail when they are bringing in 4 and 5 star guys each recruiting class.

The W's and L's start right here on the recruiting trail which is why I have been a big propenent of weakening our out of conference schedule so that we can have a few more W's on the field to help us on the trail.

I'm not saying we can't develop our 3 star guys and athletes into guys who should have been 4 stars. I am saying that getting guys who are already 4 and 5 stars and developing them is something we are missing out on.

OK. I don't want to get into a debate about recruiting. I'm to new here to be stepping on people's toes. Back to my top 7. Anyone have any thoughts on who we are going to land for our last 6? Is Rippy really out of it due to academics?

Wow, you'll argue until you get the facepalm? Weak. I was of course exaggerating with the 2 star statement to make a point, one you are unable to grasp. If Embree can coach guys up we'll be fine, W-wise and in future recruiting. Get it?

Unless someone de-commits, there's a greyshirt we aren't aware of, or JE changes his mind and oversigns, we won't see 6 more. We're sitting on 22 now, with only one EE, and no known greyshirt candidates. That adds up to 4 more signees. That probably means 2 DB's, maybe Crawley and one of Wright/Lewis, a TE (this seems to be a priority), and one wildcard spot for another DL, Wooching, Jacobs, Solo, or a last-minute surprise.

Also, there may be good news coming, according to CJ's latest tweet:

CJbuffs Getting very excited about what could be a very good recruiting class for the #CUBUFFS .... Stay tuned!

Hopefully this means we'll get good news this weekend.

Funny how when the recruiting isn't going as some thought, rankings mean nothing. Happened with hawk, now embree.

Of course wins are the end all, but we haven't won in 6 years.

Simple jack went 2-10 in year one. Embree 3-10

Simple jack signed a 5 star and two 4 stars in his second class, still 10-11 days to see embree's second class.

I think this staff is better, but they have to win and win now, not in 2-3 years.

I'm happy with the Embree-O's we've got now. However the rest of the commits shake out. Agree with the win now idea.

Technically that was his 3rd Class.
