Improvement

But we don't. Let me know how you plan on fixing that.

By playing experienced veteran players. The PAC-12 gets a who new line of QBs next year except for us and we bring an experienced QB with his entire offense back.

I'm concerned that the rest of the Pac12 will be brining in QB's like Anu Solomon and we'll still won't be better off. Hoping everybody else takes a significant step backwards is not a strategy.

What's everyone's thoughts of Washingtons blowout loss to Oregon. Oh wait UDUB has 4 and 5* talent but still gets blown out. All of you are just 35 year old men* who are going through a mid life crisis about your Alma Mater not being great this year.

This year? The team has shown nothing since they beat Oklahoma 10 or whatever years ago. We really haven't been relevant since I graduated. And I turned 36 the other day.

Plus, we aren't really showing any signs that we'll even be bowl eligible any time soon.

Here's the thing. If we had their roster we could be 6-1 or 5-2.

FLounder, do you even realize how ridiculous these two posts are back to back? You poke fun at Washington for losing even though they have all those 4* and 5* players, then immediately claim we'd be 6-1 or 5-2 with that talent. You're making my argument for me.

Game is over in the 1st quarter - Check
Complete stupidity by the team (stunningly dumb penalties and turnovers) - Check
Opposing offensive player has the game of his career and shatters a school TD record - Check
Colorado is blown out by even more than the ridiculous Vegas line - Check
Colorado is the worst team in the conference (WSU beat Utah on the road, only team with no wins in conference) - Check

Yesterday honestly felt like the crap we have unfortunately become used to. It was another game, where instead of being angry, I just shrugged with no emotion.

I think you must have skipped a couple games this season.

Glad we can just ignore the defense and pin all our hopes on the offense.

Friend of mine was a DB at Mizzou. Not a standout, but a solid football player. Gigantic Broncos fan and he keeps an eye on the Buffs turnaround cause he has to listen to me.

I bring him up because he has always said to me that D backs just really lose confidence (become discouraged) when the D line does not pressure within their set time horizon. No D back, no matter how many stars, can stay with the WR for more than 4-5 seconds on every play. 6 is death. Just can't allow that much time.

It is something we have to shore up in order to get our defensive play to an acceptable level. Obviously as it relates to the run game, influences our LB play as well.

USC qb has been mediocre all season and we turned him into a record setting Trojan. Really a disappointing game in that aspect.

I think you should take a couple of minutes and come up with the facts before you post. Washington only has 1 - 5 star over the last 5 years (Rivals is the source), Oregon has recruited more 4 and 5 stars over the last 5 years than Washington (much more). Washington has pretty much been hanging around 5 or 6 in recruiting in the conference and has some talent but is not at the top of the conference.

That was my point. At least in all of the other games this season, I was screaming obscenities at the TV because I cared. This was straight out of the Embree era. The team had a bye week to rest up and prepare specifically for USC. This was not Improvement.

Go look at Ufubs recruiting class the past few years. Tons of high 3 star and many 4 stars. They're team is light years more talented. We are playing above our talent plain and simple.

What are you even trying to argue other than the talent gap between us and a mid tier P12 team is massive?

I thought 3 and 4 stars sucked?

I'm trying to argue we are playing at the same level as them with a drastically different roster. We should be losing by much more.

Yes that's what people are saying. You should take a break from the board and quench that thirst

You will have to excuse the rest of the board in not understanding 95% of the the stuff you and FLounder. It is mostly fluff in some weird attempt to be Superfan #1 and #2. In the end, you guys make grandiose statements, double down when anything that could even remotely be considered negative occurs, and then act like everyone else is crazy.

Back on topic, one thing we could do, have to do, to make the defense more effective is start to generate some turnovers.

If I am not mistaken we have a whopping total of 4 forced turnovers the entire season. When you aren't forcing turnovers and your defense isn't good at stopping 3rd downs you naturally are in trouble because you are getting the ball back on kick-offs.

In the USC game we had two dropped INTs on the first drive alone, the second of which would have been a tough one but would also have been a pick six since KO had a direct route to the endzone with nobody close.

Talent does make a difference in getting turnovers but attitude is a huge part of it as well. If we can start to turn opportunity in possession our defense will be much more effective.

Combine that with hopefully reducing some of the stupid turnovers the offense has been making and it could translate into 2-3 wins a year.

Go look at your post - You wanted comments about Oregon blowing out Washington since UDub is loaded with 4 and 5 star recruits when actually it was Oregon that is loaded. I guess you cannot stay on topic.

Lay off the grammar, as it hurts your credibility. You used the wrong there/their/they're in your last post in the Barzil recruit thread. I usually try to ignore grammar issues, but I have to point it out when someone is making a grammar error within minutes of pointing out someone else's error.

From the recruit thread:

"I think you forgot the Sarcasm font. USC has had talent lining up to play for them since before your parents were born. Look at there 2005, 2006 and 2007 classes before the sanctions...The sanctions prevented them from getting even more talent."

Just like the movie. Classic.

Regarding improvement, here's a tweet from a Ralphie Report writer that put things into perspective for me (because I was pissed yesterday and this morning):

And while USC clearly took the foot of the gas yesterday they still played most of their starters the majority of the game unlike even last year when in many games we were seeing second stringers after the first half and walk-ons before the end of the third quarter.

We actually pulled our starters before they did... it was actually refreshing to see the other side not pack up shop at half time and walk in with the W.

Most know my stance on the team's improvement this year: They are more competitive on the field, but I am more prone to judge them on W-L because that is how they will ultimately be judged. The lost opportunities this season have been so frustrating because of the desperately needed momentum that those potential wins would have created for the program.

That said, I am no longer focused on what could have been. I'm now focused on what can be. I love the fight in this team, and I want them to come out and show everybody what they are capable of in the second half of this season. If this team can finish strong (2 wins) then the momentum will be in their favor going into the off season.
