2018-2019 Coaching Carousel..

I was good friends with someone who played for him. I KNOW academics were not a concern of his.......at all........ever...........never ever ever. Could not succeed at CU or in the PAC12.
I have a friend that owned the grocery store where the players could go in and buy up to $100/week on store credit. The AD took care of the bill off the books. $100/week was a ton of money in the 70s.

Official first carousel reset:

Open jobs:

BGSU- Mike Jinks the first casualty (h/t Mtn.)
Maryland- DJ Dirkin gets the hook for just one dead player, can you believe it? (h/t SewallBeach)

My guess is the carousel will spin this weekend. People usually starting getting the axe come November.

Lynn Swann gives Helton the dreaded vote of confidence...Helton's days are likely numbered.

Sarcasm in light of other silly posts. But it would be fun again.

I think the following names with be interesting to watch for Maryland: Luke Fickell, Charlie Strong, Steve Addazio, Matt Rhule, Brent Venables, Chip Long, Mike Elko, Dave Aranda and Neal Brown.

I'd be shocked if that gig goes to somebody other than Matt Canada.

There's been a few fluff pieces in the local rag extolling his virtues the last few weeks, so you're almost undoubtedly correct.

Edit: the CU AD press relations could learn a few things from the UMD AD press relations on this.

The situation is a complete cluster**** at the regents and university level and their PR folks are similarly FUBARed, but the AD's PR has been managing this whole thing spectacularly well.

They've been getting a lot of positive coverage of other aspects (players and, yes, coaches), and even strategically guiding the stories towards the internally preferred successor. It's been pretty impressive, especially because the WaPo isn't exactly some local lapdog for the AD.

Wade Phillips has had three opportunities as a head coach and has failed spectacularly each time.

Hard pass on son of Bum.

Not like I'd want him, but he's 79-57 as a full-time HC with 5 playoff appearances in 8 full seasons as a HC. I am not sure that qualifies as "spectacular" failure.

Good Lord, how do people **** things up this bad?
Maryland Regents: "Hello Ohio State Independent council, we're calling to ask you how you went about your investigation."
Ohio State IC: "Easy, take a few weeks, don't do much. Keep coach."
MR: "But what about evidence?"
OSIC: "Meh, no one will care."
MR: "Cool. Thanks."

When usc fans come back and bitch in a couple years about how they hate being in the PAC 12 and want to go independent trying to blame the conference for them sucking all we need to say if your last four hires were kiffen, sark, Helton and del rio (while passing on the current LSU head coach).

This conference will struggle to be relevant nationally if usC continues to shoot themselves in the foot and UCLA does the same thing in basketball.

littrell is not my recommendation. I posted this link because the similarities are uncanny. I don't want another HCMM. If a change is even made?
"The similarities are uncanny" because of what? A North Texas school newspaper writer decided to cherry pick 2 games in which the North Texas offense struggled a little, in a season where they are 7-2?

Please, please, please hire Del Rio. Guy is the definition of a .500 coach.

Unfortunately, that's what it sounds like.

You should work on reading comprehension.

The university, the regents and the AD all have separate press offices. Two of the three are ****ing up spectacularly (in their defense, their bosses are also ****ing up spectacularly), but the AD's press office? Doing a surprisingly effective job in a really tough situation.

As I said, the CU AD press office could learn a thing or two. When the regents or Phil deliver a pile of ****, somehow the CU AD's press folks always manage to locate a fan.

Meanwhile UMD's AD press office has been busy bagging the manure and have been surprisingly effective at drawing attention away from the **** show.

That's great, bud.

I'm guessing if you took an opinion poll on the Maryland athletic department right now not a single person would break it down the way you just did. They would probably just call it a **** show and move on. The school is in a PR nightmare of their own creation right now.

Sure, if you took it right now.

But if you took it 2 weeks ago, even locally, it would have fared very well.

And I've no doubt it will again fare well in a few months.

Meanwhile, 18 years after the scandal that wasn't, CU's AD still has a broadly "iffy" reputation...
