Official Coaching Search Thread

I absolutely have the same reservations, and again, I’m not advocating he should be one of the top targets. I just think that it’s mind boggling buffholic is acting like he is a ****ty coach who is ruining Boise’s legacy.
You are really going overboard on this Indiana. Where did I say that he is a ****ty coach? My very first post on this subject in this thread above was in fact:
Boise State is slowly slipping. Perhaps expected after Petersen, but they are merely good now.

It's a tough act to follow. He is still playing with mostly guys Petersen recruited thru class of '14 signing. He's had 1 QB starter his whole time as well at Boise. If we are going back to the MWC well, he has to be a superstar and I'm not sold that Harsin in more than just above average.

The comments about Lake are interesting. “...he’ll be choosy and won’t accept any FBS job, but this one would be too good to pass up.” Between that and the idea that CU would give Holgerson something to think about, this writer has a much higher opinion of CU football job than most here.
We could be the best non blue blood to open up this year.

So does Benson try to go out on a high note and give RG a blank check to get who he wants, in order to make up for allowing the football program to get into such a state of decay?

The hiring is done by the athletic department. Not the School itself.

Anyone? Who is Ann?

Anyone? Who is Ann?
Sean and Jeromy Irwin's mom. Used to post here more regularly under the handle Anne Henry. Seemed like a nice lady and offered some insight into their recruiting process and then just information about the team from time to time. We don't hear as much from her lately as the boys are no longer on the team, but she will pop up from time to time.

Well, there was that Sparaco dude as well. He's really tearing it up in Montana. Not...

I'd be careful to not take Ann's opinion as anything other than that. I don't know either way, but there is always parents with lots of different opinions. There were players that didn't like PL or Sefo....

When Jim Leavitt left after the Buffs best year in forever (10-4 !!!) I thought we might be in trouble. Levitt probably had more to do with the success of that team than anyone else. Sure, hindsight is 20/20. But only if you choose to see it.

You guys can play the Christmas shopping for a dream coach under the tree game for the next week. It’s fun ain’t it?

Don’t put too much stock in national outlets. They spitball. Try to generate readers/listeners with wild speculation. The locals have a better handle on information.

Say what you want about the Buffs needing an offensive minded coach. Screw that mindset. Colorado needs a winner period.

Jim Leavitt is a known quantity. Head coaching experience. He was here in 2015. when we were good. Pretty damn good. Rick George remembers that. He will hire someone he knows. Someone who had proven value to the Buffs. And he won’t waste time chasing ghosts.

Howell's list.
Mainly familiar (Blake Anderson, Harsin, Tedford, Neal Brown, Ryan Day, Roper, Leavitt, Wells, Norvell). Plus one i haven't heard: Chuck Pagano.
Don't shoot the messenger.

Can somebody help me out with Blake Anderson. Howell has mentioned him on a couple occasions, and I don't really know much about him. Not super impressed just looking at his record at Arkansas State.

I don’t get the Blake Anderson love at all.
+1 I don't either.

Part of me thinks it's a weird conflation of Andersen/Anderson, Wisconsin, and Arkansas. Like people think "didn't a reasonably good coach leave Wisconsin and go to Arkansas? Anderson coached Wisconsin and oh look, Anderson's at Arkansas State - I wonder if he's ready to move up again, didn't he win the big 10 one year?"

I agree with that but I must say that I was impressed with Roper during the press conference.
Roper's a pro who has been in the big tent.

From Adam's tweets, it was clear that the other assistant the players have a lot of respect for is Els -- our other pro who has been in the big tent.

That matters.

I'm a little bit surprised that Tedford is not getting more support. I'm looking at a west-coast guy w/PAC-12 experience who had three 10-win and two 9-win seasons in 13 years of coaching and only two losing seasons. Seemed to win his bowl games, etc. Can any of the other names mentioned match that record?

I'm just wondering if there is any legitimate knock on him other than the fact that he's 57 and does not really look the part.

He is a good coach no doubt but I worry about what happened at the end of his tenure at Cal.

Mediocre head coach and lazy hire.

Jeff Monken (Army)?

Brent Venables (DC, Clemson)?

Venables isn't going anywhere unless Kansas State comes calling.

Tony Elliot looks like another high risk high reward coach. Maybe higher risk than Lake, Long, or Anderson (Stanford DC) because he has never been out west.

That's true, but he's also from the best program out of any of those other options, too. Furthermore, he's been a big part of the "rise" of Clemson and could potentially take his past experience of being involved with "program building" and apply it to Colorado.
