CU has rejoined the Big 12 and broken college football - talking out asses continues

I'll say it again: MHver knows nothing and is absolutely full of ****. He reads what other people say, retweets every random thing (especially if it is pro-Big XII/ pro- WVU) and claims sources, then backtracks and cites a fluid situation when his bull**** never comes to fruition. He's been doing this for a decade. His tweets are 100% worthless.
Makes for good drama. He did call both USC and UCLA going to the B1G back in April

Some of the "in the know" posters on 247 are saying that BYU is lobbying hard against adding Utah and that the Big 12 covets Denver.

Imagine being Utah, winning a P5 conference last year, being a dark horse CFP contender in 2022, and being relegated BACK to the Mountain West in 2 years because of your traditionally G5 level mormon counterparts accepted an invite to the Big 12 a year earlier

****ing BYU. Nursing a 10 year old grudge instead of helping their new conference by bringing a massive rivalry that can be hyped as a inducement to TV networks.

OTOH, BYU-CU is a artificial rivalry I could really get into.

Again, Wilner has a vested interest in seeing the Pac stay together.

If the rumors are that the Big Ten will come back in 2 years, OR and WA are signing any GORs, in which case, the other Pac schools and the Big 12 both have to tell them to **** off.
Right. Those two programs are in a really tough spot at the moment. What's Phil Knight going to do?

Is it possible that the Big 12 could politely rescind BYU's invitation? I'm just wondering if the Big 12 could say, listen, you're not even in our conference yet, you can sit down and let us make the decision that's best for our conference, or you can **** right off.

Wouldn’t it be nice if they could find a way to offer the P12 exclusive items and NIL money nobody else in the country can get if they’re not in the P12? Could sway power a bit if you had to choose 3 million from Uncle Joes used cars in Tuscaloosa vs 3 million with Nike, exclusive shoe line etc. They’d never do it though, it would hurt their business elsewhere and force people to adidas or under armor.

I’m shocked they haven’t offered this as an option for players as a collective to select if they attend Oregon…

That is true, but the logic is correct: if Colorado, Arizona, ASU, and Utah bolt for the B12, Oregon and UDub would be in a major bind.

Big thing CU has going for it, even in terms of the Big Ten, is Denver has big Midwestern fan bases. Despite the mythology of the Cali invasion of CO, the influx of newcomers over the past 20 years has been mostly from Big Ten and Big 12 country.

That's definitely not true in UT, OR, or WA, not sure about AZ.
This is correct, and it is a key driver as to why CU would be the best "cultural" fit to the BIG. But the key question is whether the BIG believes it already has captured the Denver market because it has so many midwesterners who still follow BIG football. The addition of CU to the BIG may not add many more eyeballs to the BIG than it already has in Colorado. The SEC may then try to swoop in and grab CU in order to gain inroads in this region. The only way CU can screw this up is to sign a long-term GOR deal with the Big 12 or PAC right now. There is no reason for CU to sign a long-term GOR with anyone but the BIG or the SEC. The Denver market will not escape those two conferences eventually.

In regard to your question about AZ, there has been a huge influx of midwesterners in the Phoenix area over the past few years as well. It will be a very similar calculation for the BIG and SEC as the Denver market.

I got numbers confused with home network vs total media rights deal. Remaining P10 schools would be fools if they think that taking a pay cut will be a good idea just to keep the band together.
Agreed, and how is this even being considered? How can the PAC10 negotiate media rights... now? The "member" schools need a huge bump in revenue to be able to compete (or have ANY reason to stay together), and the PAC10 has NO bargaining power...now.

That post from CU, UU, ASU, & AU about being committed to the PAC10 is scary stupid. Ok. I get... maybe... it's a negotiating ploy... but that presumes someone could believe it's a viable option WITHOUT any indication of a possible merger with some other valuable asset (???). The only "semi-believable" assertion the PAC10 can make is that it MIGHT NOT lose more assets.

Again. The music WILL stop, and CU needs a real seat. At this point...almost ANY surviving conference will do, while realizing that the PAC10 will not survive.

If Oregon and Washington prefer to try and 'wait things out' in the Pac10 if I were AZ,ASU, Utah and CU I'd bolt immediately to the Big 12 if invited.
This would most likely force UW and UO to play their hand. No way the Pac 6 stay intact unless they invite Boise, Fresno, SDSU and UNLV or Neveda which
would be much worse than what the 'new' Big 12 could bring.
The four corner schools must know that UW and UO are not in the Pac for the long run.
Please oh please I want to see this happen for the drama on what this would force.

Oregon and Washington have already played their hands for the most part. They want the B1G and everyone knows it. Therefore, why would anyone throw in with them right now when you know they are out if that offer comes?

Had Woelk not RT’d the Athletic article I’d continue to say the Big 12 is not happening. But that was intentional. He’s an AD wonk so that was clearly a message to all of us.

But a problem with the Big 12 that their flagship - Ok St - doesn’t want to be there. They want out badly. TCU wants out. Baylor wants out. All of their top programs want to bolt to the SEC.

The only Big 12 bases that are excited about staying are all the worthless bottom feeders.

And forget about GoR costs when it comes to Ok St. They’ll cough up $100M cash from a Pickens trust fund if an SEC opportunity arises.

Sure we can say “they’re not going to the SEC”. Does anyone really know that? It’s all Ok St talks about.

So any talk of the B12 being stable is nonsense. They’re not at all. More stable than the Pac 12? I could see that argument but the margin is negligible.

ESPN is actually going to decide the outcome. PAC 12 is in the negotiation window with Fox and ESPN and we are hearing Fox is not interested. ESPN has the contract with the BIG12 starting in 2024. The Big12 is not offering a deal to anyone without talking to (and listening to) ESPN. So the question is what is the best deal for ESPN ?

I am guessing ESPN will keep the PAC 12 intact and take over the network and a payout of about $40 million per year per school.

Pickens is dead. Whatever he gave before he died is likely all OSU will see from him.

Oregon and Washington aren't signing a restrictive GoR.

Stanford and Cal aren't going to be in a conference with BYU or Baylor (not about religion or politics, but academic freedom).

Oregon State & Washington State have no options for leaving.

You can bet those 6 will do everything they can to keep the Pac together.
