Oklahoma will be #1 in next poll

I'd put Bama over Missouri..

1. OU
2. LSU
3. Bama
4. Missouri
5. Texas

The SEC and Big 12 are by far the 2 best conferences, although I don't think there will be any undefeated teams at the end of the year in the SEC. OU, I think has a much better chance to go undefeated than LSU or Alabama.

I dont see how you could rank 'Bama #1 jumping from #8 to #1 when the #2, #5, #6, & #7 team didnt lose......

Also 'Bama didn't torch the#1 ranked defense either....

Why not, they're 5-0 and just destroyed Georgia in Athens? Oklahoma is 4-0 and has played less stellar opposition. Polls should be fluid. The only logic that would put Oklahoma at a higher rank is that they were already ranked higher, which is just circular not merit based.

so soundly thumping the #1 ranked defense in the nation has no merit?? ok so where does beating Tulane, Western Kuntucky and Arkansas have merit?? and I'll throw Clemson in there too as they were ranked #9 before the season, but after today they wont be Top 25....

Not much, TCU played some really bad teams to earn their number 1 statistical position. I think they're about as good as the Clemson team Alabama faced. The only difference we have for the season is Alabama went and destroyed an elite team in a hostile environment and Oklahoma has not. It's not say Oklahoma can't but they haven't explicitly shown it. What you're holding is Notre Dame's position year in year out and I don't think it's a very strong one.

Minimal merit, considering that the vaunted defense of Texas Christian had spent the first three weeks of the season squaring off against New Mexico, Stanford, and Southern Methodist - teams that rank 100th, 112th, and 98th in the country in total offense, respectively. Oh, and they also played Steven F Austin, a team that ranks 96th out of 124 teams in total offense among I-AA programs.

Yeah, #1 defense in the nation... REEEAAAL impressive

the teams TCU has played are no worse than teams both OU and 'Bama have played. I just dont believe that 'Bama has earned jumping from #8 to #1 in the polls with a victory over Georgia, especially when there are 4 teams, OU, LSU, Mizzou, & Texas that have not lost yet this season and are ranked higher than 'Bama. Should 'Bama "leap frog" any of those 4 teams, I say yes,
1. OU
2. LSU
3. 'Bama

To say I have a ND position is clearly wrong too. I could care less where OU is ranked tomorrow except for the fact if they are ranked #1 its week 96 being voted #1 in the AP poll since 1936, and no other team has been ranked #1 as much as OU. I only care where OU is ranked in January after BCS Championship game is played and the all the final polls are released.

I am of belief that until the 6 week of the season, there really shouldn't be any polls.

I know, I know. I just like playing it up like all the announcers and sportswriters have this week....

I said as much outside of Georgia.

How else do you earn number one if not by out performing the other teams? The only counter argument is that high ranks justify further high ranks which is meritless circular position. Which is how Notre Dame scoops up BCS bowl bids. If Alabama was ranked preseason first would you take the position that Alabama deserves to be ranked first? What if they were preseason 2-25 all things equal?

To say I have a ND position is clearly wrong too.
Then what is the position that Oklahoma should be ranked first because they were previously ranked higher equate to?

Not caring.
Then why are you caring?

I would say if 'Bama had been ranked preseason 1-5, then yes they could be ranked #1 given what we know. However, if I am not mistaken, didnt Georgia score 30 points against 'Bama in the 2nd half. do #1 teams dont let other teams score 30 points against them in a half, if at all??

and I think you have my bs'ing confused with caring....

It was 31-0 at half and 41-17 with 4 minutes left. Georgia scored 14 points in garbage time. I guess their third stringers wouldn't qualify has a number 1 team. Looking at box score generally can give you decent context to what occurred during the game.

Ok everything you said was bull****, that makes sense.

All I want is a good MNC game at the end of it all which would most likely require the next no. 1 to get knocked off along the way....please!!!!!!!!!!! :smile2:

With all due respect to OU UBT, Bama's performances has been more imoressive. You can't really say TCU had the best defense in the country (statistically yes), but they did play the likes of New Mexico, Stephen F. Austin, Stanford and SMU.
OU has not played stellar competetion eother yet.
Bama has not trailed all year and have beaten Clemson soundly at a neutral site and dominated #3 Georgia in Athens, just dominated them.

OU? Chattaooga, cincy, UDub is not as impressive. I would say Bama has been more impressive than OU to the date. They are still great teams and they could meet up in the BCS title game. But Bama is for real.
