Official Michigan State/Mel Tucker Hate Thread

I understand consent. I’ve said that before. Your question should be asked. It will be wrong if it isn’t.
That question being the heart of the matter makes the rest a circus and a travesty.

I will not apologize for being beyond fed up that the patriarchal playbook in the courtroom has been and continues to be the other nonsense. What were you wearing? How much money was spent? Why did you accept the gifts? Isn’t that leading him on?

All of that sends a message that her “no” does not really count.

That is wrong.

Nope. See Pahi’s post.

Good point.

In application here, we are not that civil or criminal court. In the court of popular opinion, too many people feel that accepting gifts means loss of bodily autonomy.

In the court of law not too long ago, marriage lost a woman her bodily autonomy. That is so ridiculous, I have limited respect for those institutions until such a time that they start treating victims as people first, atone for their past processes, and truly act as should befit their dignity.
I think that the remainder of Mel Tucker's contract is going to be adjudicated administratively within the Michigan State University system, at the very least, whatever that entails, but potential civil actions are elephants in the room and will drive a stringent bias towards accuracy and fact.

Afterwards, in time, the court of public opinion will possibly have some effect on Mr. Tucker's future in coaching, and also, unfortunately, possibly upon the future of the consultant's employment opportunities at this level as well.

This is an ugly and stupid turn of events and Mel Tucker seems to be a very unstable, impulsive, and unbalanced guy. A power imbalance in a personal association/relationship is often never understood by the powerful party even after things blow up. A bad and sad situation.

Peeking back in the thread to see the potential laughs, but realizing that this is “definitely not where one parked one’s car”

Moral of the story, the only yes is in fact “yes”.

Hmmm.

For a group of people that I don't truly know in real life, I genuinely thought I had a decent grasp on the way this thread would go except for a few dumb assholes. Instead it turned into a thread filled with misogyny, sexism, and victim blaming and that's shockingly disappointing. I feel really bad for any of the women that choose to frequent this site and read through this thread because this is absolutely not a welcoming environment.

For those of you who are wondering why it took her x amount of time to report it (and we all know those who are asking that question are men), please think about how you would respond if you were sexually harrassed and/or taken advantage of by a woman. I bet you'd feel ashamed and/or embarrassed. I bet your first thought would not be "hey I should go relive this with some investigator or LEO that I don't know well." or "hey, I'm going to go tell my family and friends about this". Then add on top of it that both she and this prick are public figures so anything that comes out is going to be magnified. I can't even begin to imagine how hurt she must feel having had something even worse happen to her in the past. To have it happen again is horrific.

Leads to my second point; she is absolutely a victim and those saying she is not are being delusional. That is not an opinion, that is a fact. If you still disagree, I invite you to imagine someone called your wife/daughter/sister/mother and did what that disgusting POS did to Brenda Tracey. Would you tell your loved one that they aren't a victim? I sincerely hope not.

Everyone's entitled to their opinion, but there will not be any more victim blaming or blatant sexism in this thread. Otherwise it will be locked and bans handed out that are appropriate in punishment to the comment made.

Now that is a 5* mod post. 👍🏽

The evidence says that many women don't ever report it. It is a very difficult thing for women to deal with, they are facing the invasion of their most personal space. They can be (justifiably) very afraid of what other people will think of them (even though it isn't their fault,) how people will react, how they will react with it being public.

To blame women for how they respond when faced with this kind of thing, to expect them to respond in ways that we from the outside would consider logical when they are facing something that is completely illogical is completely ridiculous.

I have a wife and two daughters. I hope and pray that none of them face this kind of thing and agree with you entirely, some perspective is called for here.

The women are the victims here, not the reason it happens., and they should be respected as such.
I agree 99.99%. The ONLY counter I have to this is who this particular lady happens to be, which is why I find this situation slightly peculiar.

This is really hard to believe, if true: MSU wouldn’t have heard anything beyond the existence of a complaint until USA Today (USA Today does investigative journalism?) publishes a story? I appreciate that there are Title IX guardrails, and that is really an interesting twist. I have to admit, I’m very ready to blame MSU for pretty much anything after their history with this sort of thing.

I will just throw my hat into the “I’ve thought MT was a POS since he did us wrong” ring and leave the rest of discussion to those with thoughtful, personal insights on the issue.

My thoughts will always bend toward seeing justice recognize the dangers of this sort of misconduct while providing a clear, workable, accepting avenue to adjudicate each case on its merits. Sounds like that process is working here.

Sounds pretty iron clad to me. It’s a judgement call for the university. I assume that if he’s fired he could sue. That’s why I’d bet they settle and he’s gone.

“Michigan State may fire Tucker for cause if he “engages in any conduct which constitutes moral turpitude or which, in the University’s sole judgement, would tend to bring public disrespect, contempt or ridicule upon the university,” according to his contract. The school also was able to suspend Tucker, without pay, if he “materially breaches” his contract.”

If they don’t fire him, players can’t transfer.

It’s a touchy subject for sure, but it’s gotten out of hand for Mel. He’s one stroke of the pen away from termination.

Is it too soon to start referring to him as Mel Tugger?

Guy is going to go down as the dumbest man in the history of college football. I feel for his kids.
