Is it time yet to worry about recruiting rankings?

Can't we discuss actual recruits that we are going for and how they look, what the scoup is?

Basically, I don't have a rivals or scout membership and I'd love to hear updates

That is why we have a recruiting forum....

If we are going after Oregon and Cals left overs we are in trouble. Boise may dominate in the WAC but how do you think they would do in the Big 12? I don't think that is a good model to use for success.

Reality is what it is. We went backwards on the field this year and the studs aren't buying in to powerpoint slides, they look for results. Boise State type of kids will make us much better and position us for future top classes.

I think it's illegal to share details...relative information is OK, I think. I see the red team to the east moved into 25th place with their commit of a 4* RB from Texas. They have a lot of Texas commits..three of them are 4*. CU is presently at 61, just ahead of Boise.

I don't have a Scout sub...would anyone share how we're doing versus the rest of college football, in their rankings? Recruiting is the lifeblood of a program..and there's still time for CU to make a move. Still...concerning to me that we have been stuck on the same number of commits for some time, while other programs are steadily adding. Maybe it's part of a plan...?

You really need to fark Hawkins in Joker makeup and the short list of current commits with that quote. That would be funny.

Rankings are so overrated! The last time we finished with a top 10 class where did it get us??? Slick Rick had a top 10 class for us that was a bust and if i can recall right, Barnett gave us a top 10 class that didn't do much either....

You have a point..recruiting good athletes is only half of that showing up on the field..the other half is coaching.

It is like being dealt a great hand in poker...but playing the hand poorly.....the results will be poor.

I'm not saying Neu or Gary were bad or good coaches...personally, I think Barnett was above average..just thinking the old saying about purses and sows ears. If you get some quality to start with, there is a better chance to reflect quality on the field.

I thought Slick Rick's top 10 class was Gurode, Rogers, Bannan etc. They had one memorable season if I recall.........

Yes! and Barnett never had a top ten class. His best class by far was the #22 class he pulled in after winning the B12 in 2001. The 2002 class never lived up to that ranking and fared about as well as his other mid-40 ranked classes.... Pitiful actually.

2002:
Calhoun - 4 star, transferred to Wisconsin
Thadeus - 4 star, he was a good player here
Joseph - 4 star, transferred to Ohio somewhere
Werth - 4 star, never really made it
Klopfenstein - 4 star, pretty good player.
Donald Burgs - 4 star, who?
Chris Hollis - 4 star, I think he had a neck injury and never did much
JJ Billingsley - 4 star, good player, but hurt knee and never was same

A whole group of 3 stars didn't work out either but a few did...

-all rankings above were Scout.Com rankings for 2002 class.

YES. It is time to worry.

I've always been pretty calm about recruiting and never do worry that much (other than D Scott). But I have to admit, I am worried now. Some updates i've heard dont sound very good to me.

But I still have faith in Hawk and CO. Now Hawk, go out and get those stars

Per Rivals....

Barnett's 2002 class was a top 10 class....

That 2002 class was very, very good, and I think deserving of top 10 status. In addition to what other have said, I will add that Iwuh and Fenton (2 star players) both made it to NFL. Blake Mackey was destined to be a great WR until he got injured, and he still was trying out for NFL teams after graduation even though Hawk never played him. Klopfenstein, Calhoun, Nyenhuis, and Thaddeus are either in NFL or got a shot.

They start to tail off a little after that, but the class of 2005 is when the talent grinds to a halt.

That's funny because Scout doesn't include Nyenhuis, Iwuh or Fenton in that class... but cubuffs.com confirms that Rivals' data is correct. I still don't think this was a top-10 type of class, but it was WAY better than other GB classes.

I agree with everything you say above except regarding Mackey. I never saw one iota of evidence that he was ever going to be a great player before the injury. He was a disappointment from day 1 imho.

A fair opinion about Mackey, although remember he led the team in receiving yards in 2004 before his big injury.

We use to be loaded with talent until slick rick came along and ruined it for all of us.....campbell, westbrook, carruth, James Kidd, Savoy, charles johnson, mike pritchard, it seemed like there wasn't a drop off at all at many of our positions.

Wow we've got a long way to go.....:sad1:

On the bright side, looks like Toledo, San Jose State and Nevada are also having trouble getting people to sign.

Amazing! Which schools have players signed with? Because I hear that wasn't allowed until February.
