Potential Coaching names...

Applewhite intrigues me, he was OC at Alabama and instrumental in getting the nation's #1 recruiting class two years ago including a highly touted quarterback out of Florida named Star Jones. He has great Texas connections which we all know we need Texas players in order to compete. He might be lacking in California but we still have Hagan for that.

Have to say I'm ready to move on with an entirely new staff next season. Let's clean house once and for all.

1. Mike Shanahan - a man can dream
2. Charlie Strong - He is a real possibility
3. Rich Rodrigas - If Scott would return to the herd, Rich would have a great core for his type of offence.

Cabral?

Todd Graham - HC Tulsa

Mike Bobo - OC/QB Georgia if there is any shakeup there.

Personally, (aside from the Shanny-claus) I am leaning towards Strong or Sumlin as my favorites.

Mike Bobo is about to get fired at Georgia, or demoted to QB coach.

I'd honestly take any of the Georgia assistants their fans have been complaining about like Bobo and Martinez, they probably could become better assistants here than the cut throat SEC.

I am just listing all the names I have heard in no particular order.

John Embree
Eric Bieniemy
Dave Logan
Brian Cabral
Charlie Strong
Karl Dorrell
Chuck Heater
Mike Shanahan
Kyle Shanahan
Brent Venables
Mike Stoops
Brian Kelly
Bobby Hauck
Turner Gill
Tommy Tuberville

Who am I missing?

Added:

Troy Calhoun
Sonny Dykes
Bob Simmons
Kevin Sumlin
Skip Holtz
Al Golden
Andy Ludwig
Eric Mangini
Butch Jones
Major Applewhite
Gary Patterson
David Gibbs

Are these names you just happened to have read on giddy fan site somewhere? :smile2:

Since we're adding candidates:

Bronco Mendenhall- Great coach that we may not be able to afford

Ron Rivera- Chargers Defensive Coordinator

Larry Fedora- USM is pretty good

Part of me wants to see this just to see the pure comedic value of Phil Fulmer trying to fit in at CU and in the town of Boulder. Most of me realizes that he is a very poor fit though.

comedic value would be Turner Gill....

****braska fans would **** that a 'Sker legend' is a Buff and
Colorado fans would **** that a 'Sker legend' is a Buff ..

It's our turn. They had Charlie McBride and that turned out to be not so funny for us.

Bobo is young but his body of work at UGA is pretty damn strong:
developing David Greene and D.J. Shockley, and recruiting/developing Matthew Stafford.

I don't know how his game management and other coaching skills are, but definitely somebody to look hard at.

MUST have someone who can recruit in TX and CA.

I would think this would bump Sonny Dykes to the front of the list. His Texas ties are obviously deep and he has been on the west coast for the last 3 years. This would help with California, Hawaii and the inroads we've made in Arizona.

He also has experience in Louisiana and Kentucky.

No way Bronco would leave BYU for CU and I don't think you would want him, for many reasons. Someone put Fulmer out there for a joke based on his bad fit with Boulder. Bronco would be many times worse. Might not seem so based on the surface, but believe me.

So he can moonshine too? Go get him!:smile2:

Oh he definetly deserves some credit for his work at the QB position, but between a Shockley and Stafford there was a Tereshinski and between Stafford and Murray, there has been a Cox.

SEC fans tend to remember the guys who aren't successful as much as they remember the guys who were.

In terms of a HC or an OC?

Waaaay too early in terms of talking him up as a HC, his playcalling ability in the red zone has gotten him in trouble for the last couple of years.

Why would Bronco be a worse hire?

Everything I've heard about him suggests he would have to change his recruiting techniques, apparently he uses the "take it or leave it" approach with kids when recruiting for BYU. Plenty of guys will jump at that due to BYU's religious significance, but there are probably a lot of other guys who blocked his phone number afterwards.

Other than that he seems like a good guy, and hes worked magic at BYU in terms of player development and fielding a competitive team yearly although we know they obviously aren't getting their pick of top athletes and Heaps is probably their highest rated recruit in decades.

Kirby Smart
Ken Niumatalolo

If David Gibbs is seriously on the short list, I'm a happy man. He put together some pretty good defenses at Minnesota and Auburn. Think he'd be a draw for top-notch DB recruits.

He is a good guy but, based on your comments, you have no idea how deep Mormonism runs with him and with that institution. It’s an all encompassing, way of life, 24/7 kind of thing. That’s not necessarily bad but it’s an oil and water situation with Boulder. They kick you out of school if you have a beard at BYU. That's no joke.

By the way, read the BYU boards and you’ll see loads of people who feel he’s average at best (that’s always the case with fans though).

He’s a good coach but a horrible fit for CU. He’s a good recruiter at BYU because he knows how to sell BYU to Mormons. It goes way deeper than football for him.

David Gibbs is a former Buff. I assume most of you know that, but it's kinda cool, just the same.

Definitely as OC, not BCS program HC material yet.

Jeremy Bates has been mentioned a few times...
Christensen at Wyoming might have been a name last year but I haven't been impressed with his offense at Wyoming, shut out 3 times this year...

I am just listing all the names I have heard in no particular order.

John Embree - yes
Eric Bieniemy - yes
Dave Logan - not as HC
Brian Cabral - got to give him an interview
Charlie Strong - yes
Karl Dorrell - nope
Chuck Heater - worthy interview
Mike Shanahan - not happening imo
Kyle Shanahan - not without his dad
Brent Venables - not impressed
Mike Stoops - isn't he Arizona's DC? No thanks
Brian Kelly - yes please, not going to come here, but I wish
Bobby Hauck - not the FCS coach I'd want
Turner Gill - worthy of an interview
Tommy Tuberville - Can't see him fitting in here, but it'd be nice if he did

Who am I missing?

Added:

Troy Calhoun - interesting, I don't think he'd leave AF
Sonny Dykes - probably worthy of an interview, not a fan of the Tech offense, but it's better than the Hawk offense.
Bob Simmons - probably too old, I'd like to see him on the next staff, though.
Kevin Sumlin - I liked him when he beat OSU, but his past indicates a no. Came here as WR coach and left 2 weeks later, no thanks.
Skip Holtz - he looked great last season before ECU stumbled. Not sure
Al Golden - I like him, but after a discussion with BuffinDC, I prefer the guy that came after him, Mike London.
Andy Ludwig - no thanks, the Cal offense disappears in it's biggest games.
Eric Mangini - please dear god no.
Butch Jones - an interesting candidate, but lacks BCS experience and who knows how good he'll do without Lefevour at QB.
Major Applewhite - not sure he'd leave Texas, although he can't assume he'd be HC there for a very long time with Muschamp coming in.
Gary Patterson - same boat as Kelly, love him, not going to happen.
David Gibbs - has been in the NFL for awhile, his recruiting concerns me, I do like his experience, though.

Few others I personally like:

Mike London, HC at Richmond, DC at Virginia, 23-4 record at Richmond and a national championship in his first year there.

Bud Foster, DC at Virginia Tech, I just love how VT plays defense and special teams, it's a model for sound fundamental football.

The Wisconsin QB who is now the Vikings OC, name escapes me, but he seems like a decent candidate.

I added Ron Vanderlinden. Saw someone throw out his name on Netbuffs.

I think that is an interesting idea...I know he struggled at Maryland but did well as DC at NW and is noted as a great recruiter. Recruiting to Northwestern had to overcome academic restrictions.

Jim bates was just demoted and will be let go soon. Another father son combo?

I hope not.

Saw his name too, I don't really know what to think. He didn't do well at Maryland as a HC, but it's not like he took over a powerhouse, I can't believe they fired him after 4 seasons. Either way wouldn't you know as soon as Friedgen gets there he reels in an ACC championship, the players (who Vanderlinden recruited) graduate, and Maryland hasn't been the same since.

Then again we're firing Hawk after 4 seasons and he at least had a winning season. I suppose it could be fair to say that Vanderlinden had Maryland going in the right direction, whereas it's obvious that we are only headed backwards. He also would be bringing in extensive BCS experience that Hawk didn't have.
