Are we ready for Big XII play?

I'm not so sure.
We're definitely in a shooting slump. But defense and rebounding has gotten better. I also think we're moving better on offense. And I have a lot of belief in this coaching staff that the team will keep getting better. I think what you're seeing is growing pains, DBT, and we'll come out the other end a much better team.
That said, we have some real deficiencies that will be difficult to overcome. It's possible we only get 2 or 3 Big 12 wins, as good as the conference is. But I could also see us getting a few more than that, having a chance at a first round win in the Big 12 tourney, and getting a postseason invite at somewhere between 14 and 18 wins. I honestly believe it's going to be a good ride watching this team grow up and that it will be well worth suffering through some of the bumps along the way.

I love your enthusiasm but I don't see improvement in rebounding especially for offensive boards. The level of competition goes up from here on out. The other B12 coaches know how to defend the Buffs...watch for a lot of pressure on the point. If CU gets more than 3 B12 wins I would be amazed and 2 is more realistic.
They haven't looked very ready the last few games. But I also wonder just how interested these guys are right now with this back-to-back run of teams like Yale and Miami, OH. And no, they're not good enough to get that attitude, but they're also young and **** like that happens.
The Tulsa game makes me think road games against the better Big XII games are going to be VERY tough, but I'm curious to see what kind of effort they can come up with at home and in some of the other road games...

The Big 12 in my opinion is the best conference in basketball this year - that is not biased, as I'm more biased towards the ACC in basketball. From top to bottom, the Big 12 is competitive. There is no gimme game.
Because of that, I don't think the Buffs are going to sniff .500, as I'm sure the rest of you agree with. However, I think they're a good squad that just needs to mature some. I also don't see the rebounding improvement that Buffnik refers to, but I do think that Tunks has progressed. Miami is a good team, and so is Tulsa. That does not excuse Tulsa blowing us out, but it's not like the results is too atrocious. I say we win 5-6 games and put ourselves in a position for an NIT bid at best. I think the scenario is not too far-fetched either.
The team's problem as alluded to by others is mental toughness - our road play is horrible. That needs to get corrected, but I trust Bz. I hate to sound like Hawk, but I really do feel this team is very close to putting it all together. I see it on some defensive and offensive possessions. It's just not consistent enough. You see stretches...but the stretches need to last a whole 40 minutes. I'm hopeful though.

Just bought tix to take the family to the game against UT tomorrow. I am a basketball novice, but I'll do my best to put up some post-game thoughts after all is said and done. Looking forward to a good time w/the family, and who knows, the last time I took the twins to a CU basketball game (2003), they beat #2 Texas!

I agree that CU is probably more talented this year but at the same time I worry all of their talent is too much alike. They don't have enough players in the different roles. It seems at times they have all 2s and 3s on the floor. They are missing a 4 and a 5. Dufault plays a perimeter finesse game most of the time so I consider him a 3, Relphorde is a 3, Burks - a 3, Higgins a 2, Thorne a 2-3. Tomlinson plays the 1 OK but is a step slow on the Defensive end.
I think they are going to miss JJW's toughness, he was undersized but would mix it up underneath the boards. If I was advising BZ (which I am not) I would tell him he has to get Harris Tunks and Crawford to play more inside and go after the rebounds.

CU is much better and experienced than last year, and the addition of Burks is huge. I wish we didn't have to wait to see Shannon Sharpe because IMO, he's gonna be special at the point. But with that said, CU still has some work to do with recruiting. Bz has still yet to find a quality post player when most of the Big 12 has at least ONE or TWO of them, and that will be the deciding factor in most losses this season, although they have some sizable players, they aren't nearly athletic enough.
I predict that CU will get that elusive BIG win, at home against Baylor this coming week, and will get that elusive road win down the stretch, Mar. 2nd @ Nebraska. In addition, CU will nab home wins against Neb, Mizzou, Iowa State, & Texas Tech. So i'm predicting a 6-10 conf. record, 15-15 overall, heading into the Conf. Tourney.
We'll see if they can build on that momentum by recruiting a couple of bigs that can come in and make an impact right away. That couples with the HOPEFUL return of Higgins, and the insertion of Shannon Sharpe, should make next year exciting.
