Davis was originally part of the 2004 recruiting class at Boise State, where Dan Hawkins was head coach. He grayshirted, joining the team in the winter of 2005. He participated in 2005 spring drills, then went on a 2-year Mormon mission to Guam. Following his mission, Davis decided to remain with Dan Hawkins and changed his commitment to CU. Davis handled kickoffs for CU in 2008 as a RS-Freshman and was also 1/3 on field goals. However, he struggled all season with cartilage damage in his left (plant) knee. He had offseason surgery and was expected to compete at both kicker and punter in 2009, but Davis realized that he simply could not perform the way he would like due to the injury and gave up football.
