Looks more like a guard than a tackle at the next level.

I dont think the quotes in the article indicate AT ALL that the kid is ticked about getting an offer the first of May in his Junior Year.

    Drama wasn't necessary, IMO.

I guess the only thing I found odd was that the kid came to the junior day in April and he did not get offered then. A lot can change in 3-4 weeks apparently.

Perhaps the coaches present it that they are very selective and want to offer the best kids, so when you get a CU offer, it means something.

    just wondering.

I just hope we land him. We have done very well with in-state linemen, I hope that trend continues. Need to get him back on campus this summer a couple times.

Some kids wait and wait for the offer they wanted, others may be influenced by timing, I guess. Hard to tell, but for such a decision, you wouldn't think a smart kid would let that get in the way. The other thing that is odd is that in CU's prospects on scout.com, Spond (as a MLB) is ranked above Hinder, so why does Kyle, who works for scout, say Hinder is the top-rated recruit?

how early the offer comes is way down the list of reasons a kid picks the school that he picks. CU doesn't offer a kid and then change their mind like our Red Brethren to the East. If you get an offer, they want you and you will be a priority. Kids get that message loud and clear.

You gotta love the fact that he has offers from schools that his coach has never talked to. Let's just lob an offer his way and then we'll figure out if he can play later on.

The reality is that CU has 10 guys on scholarship with only 1 senior on the line. So 2-3 guys is probably the right number IF all the incoming guys get here and we have no other attrition. We have a boatload of sophomores and freshmen and more than a few will be facing the very real scenario of bench-riding their entire career here. Sophomores alone will include Miller, Bahr, Iltis, Adkins, Daniels, and Behrens and we have two freshmen who have 4-year starter (barring further injury) written all over them in MTM and B. Givens.

Class of 2010 O-linemen will redshirt and have plenty of opportunities down the road, but they will also have to know that CU will likely start a freshmen and 3 sophomores in the front 5 this fall....

The current mix at OL is an issue. There's a lot of talent and depth at the position right now.

CU needs to be very picky about who it offers. With depth issues at WR, DL & DB, we can't be taking more than 2-3 OL this cycle, IMO. We need those scholarships in other areas right now.

I disagree. OL is always a priority. You can never have enough talent on the OL. When you stray away from that, problems will come.

Good talent on the OL is always a great thing and that can never be understated. If we have enough depth such that a stud can only play 2 years down the road then we'll have a dominant team. I hope we NEVER, NEVER go back to the situation we had during Hawk's first spring practice.

This is especially true if we start a dominating running game. Hit'em in the mouth!

Yes, but there comes a point where you have too much of a good thing. There are 13 O-Linemen on the roster right now, with three more coming in the Fall. That's 16 O-linemen, with only one graduating next year. I don't think you should have more than 16-17 O-linemen on the roster at any one time.

Re: '10 CO OT Dillon Bonnell

I understand, but with the talent that we have who is to say that they at least one or two won't declare early? I always think it's foolish when someone on the OL declares early, but it can and does happen. Miller will be eligible for the draft after this year, Solder is already eligible (but still raw) and Givens has 2 years until he can declare. I think 15-18 scholarship OL players is a good number to try and maintain. What hurts us right now is that the depth isn't spaced out evenly, but it'll be a few years (through attrition and whatnot) before Hawk is able to do so.

I like that there is strong competition on the OL for PT, but yeah if we take more than 2 (maybe 3) OL then I think we are stacking it too much, especially when you take in the WR, DT and soon to be secondary depth problems.

Re: '10 CO OT Dillon Bonnell

I'm assuming there will be 4 in the fall. Handler, Bakhtiari, Simon and Harris. And I think all 4 will redshirt from that class.

A good number is 4 per year, but we have some more pressing needs THIS year and a relatively low number of schollies to offer. 3 has to be the max for 2010. We are plenty deep there right now and we no longer will be looking for O-Linemen to play right away, but certainly to redshirt.

The bar has been raised on the line and there need not be any reason to be anything BUT very picky.

we got enough Kickers and O-Linemen imo.

    Amen on the kickers.

OL, not so sure. We'll have to watch the season play out.

Forgot about him. So yeah, we're doing pretty well there. No need to be throwing around scholarship offers to anybody who isn't a serious stud. Not saying that Bonnell isn't a stud, but we don't need to be reaching on players.

We'll take three IMO. Our numbers are a little skewed right now because of the 2007 class.

Re: '10 CO OT Dillon Bonnell

Three would give us 19 to start the 2010 season, assuming no attrition. That's a big number, but not too big. I think you're right about the 2007 class skewing the overall numbers. Hawk may be looking at that and thinking that he'll get into the 20's, knowing he'll be losing 5-6 in one year down the road.

Whatever. I just DO NOT want to be in the position we were in last year or the year before EVER AGAIN.

    Current Sophomores:
Adkins, Daniels, Iltis, Miller, Bahr, Behrens, Tau

with some pressure from below coming from the 2008 class.....
    (Givens, MTM, Ryan Dannewitz)....

There are some guys who really need to compete to see the field and that's a good thing.

so will Bonnell stay instate and commit to the Buffs? I hope he does, cant let good kids go to our rivals. I think it's an important effort DH has done and should continue to do; i.e., all top CO kids for CU.
