Only two passing attempts, according to Maxpreps, in his last game. Seems like a safety at the college level.

He's played CB and WR, but like valdezj said, he's probably a S at the D-1 level.

CU is recruiting him as a QB and according to the new Rivals article, we want him as an ATH. We'd like him as a preferred walk-on, and if no one offers (watch out for Buffalo) we have a very good chance of seeing him wear the Black & Gold.

    Visiting CU this weekend.

The last Scout article was on December 17th. In it, they said that we are looking at Gorman as a preferred walk on. There's still a chance we would offer him. His biggest offer is from Air Force. Penn State would also like him as a preferred walk on.

I don't think that it had been mentioned before, but Gorman camped with CU this past summer so he's somewhat familiar with the campus and the coaches.

Manheim Central is a very good football program. They are 3A in Pennsylvania and play in a good league (blue collar, mid-sized town football). Manheim went 15-1 this past season with its only loss being a 7-10 heartbreaker in the state final.

There's been more than a couple good QBs from PA over the years.

He's plenty tall to play Safety. That's where I think he ends up if he comes to CU. Possibly slot WR, but QB would really be a longshot imho.

Rivals has a great visit update published for Gorman: http://colorado.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1041285

"Colorado wants me to join their program as a preferred walk-on," said Gorman, who played quarterback at Manheim Central High School in Pennsylvania. "They told me that if I can contribute my first year, then I will be on scholarship after that.

"I would be coming in to play slot receiver at Colorado, and maybe also return punts and kicks. They want me to come in and prove myself since I would be playing a different position."

    **********

Espy was his host. Sounds like it's between CU and Penn. We should know in the next week or so.

P.S. I switched his profile to Wide Receiver since that's where CU is recruiting him. Gorman did play WR in high school before moving to QB as a junior.

    That he did! Welcome, Justin!

    http://articles.lancasteronline.com/local/4/247778

Manheim Central's senior football class has produced its second major Division I college recruit.

Barons' quarterback Justin Gorman, who piloted Central to the Section 2 title, the District 3 Triple-A championship and all the way to the PIAA Triple-A state championship game this past season, has accepted an offer to be a preferred walk-on at the University of Colorado....

Gorman, who will sign a national letter of intent with Colorado on Feb. 3, will play slot wideout and return punts and kicks for the Buffaloes.

"Initially I wanted to stay at quarterback," Gorman said. "But at that level, size is a big thing. Most of the quarterbacks out there are 6-4 or 6-5. But I want to play at the highest level, so I'll play where they want me to play.

"I'm up for that challenge and I'm going out there for that challenge. I really think I can play at that level, and I'm excited about it."

If he earns one, then he's on scholarship. 14's the number based on the number of seniors we were projected to graduate. It's actually down to 13 with the loss of Sumler. Could go up if Walters gets a scholarship for his last year of eligibility. And we should have attrition. But, yeah, 13's the 2011 class number as of 1/22/10.

Very possibly, but if so it is due to him proving he belongs. If he doesn't work out then no obligation, if he does we get a guy with a lot of upside. Scotty graduates next year and we will be thin at the slot reciever. We have recruited pretty well for outside guys but against the defenses that we will be seeing a quality slot guy who has a high FB IQ and can make plays to keep drives going is critical.

I think based on history and the situation in Boulder that number next year is going to end up being over 20 available (minus one for Gorman if he turns out to be a player.)

Sorry about the acronym, but that thread title was getting ridiculously long. Any suggestions for abbreviating "Preferred Walk On" are very welcome.

My daughter was a preferred walkon so here goes:

Anyone can try and walkon but most will get cut early.
A preferred walkon is asked/invited to walkon and thus promised a spot on the team and a chance to prove themselves. Usually, the promise includes a scholarship offer upon achievement of certain goals. In this case, it might look like this:
Come to CU on your own nickel but we think that if you develop like we think you can, that you have a chance for playing time at Slot Receiver, but also a chance to be our #1 Punt Returner from the get go. Achieve status XYZ and we will reward you with a scholly the next year.

"Preferred" means "Invited". It usually comes with the promise from the coaches that if the recruit earns a certain amount of playing time that he will be put on scholarship.

Edit: buffalholic beat me to it with a better response. :stupid:
