Here's what ESPN said when Burnette was coming out of high school:

Burnette is reminiscent of Brady Quinn in terms of overall mechanics and delivery. He is a disciplined, solid pocket passer with excellent overall tools and arm strength as a thrower. He is well groomed and consistent in his methods, and you see the same footwork, balance, ball carriage and delivery on every snap. Possesses good pocket presence, shows good footwork and is capable of buying time all while keeping his eyes downfield. Shows good, but not great arm strength. Velocity is solid and shows some zip when throwing outside of the numbers. Flashes the ability to throw into tight spaces when he sets his feet and is able to follow through. Touch and timing on deep ball are outstanding. He understands rhythm and won't hold onto the ball unnecessarily. Gets rid of the ball quickly, and his drop speed and set up are very quick and balanced. He is one of the more polished, pure passers in this class. He shows the consistent ability to lead receivers when throwing underneath, and he throws a very catchable ball on quick slants and timing routes. However, Burnette is not the overall athlete as others at the position. He has good feet and has a feel for pressure but won't move around and create havoc with his legs. He can be a bit rigid in his methods in terms of his delivery, but that may be a result of being so regimented in his methods. He should blossom into a fine college quarterback.

Here's what Scout had to say when Burnette was coming out of high school:

STRENGTHS: Accuracy / Consistency; Pocket Awareness; Touch
AREAS FOR IMPROVEMENT: Arm Strength; Running Ability / Mobility

Looks like he has a hitch, though not consistent, in his windup, especially on passes over 20 yards. Stands tall in the pocket, poised, gets the ball out with a good release point and spins it well. Stays balanced, even on rollouts and sprintouts, and very accurate especially along the sidelines.

Burnett only played for Arizona Western into October of last season due to a rib injury. He will have 2 years of eligibility remaining.

I'd suspect if he gets offered, he's enrolled before we know he's committed. Hansen will be learning a new offense/style and could use the competition. I'm not convinced he'd get that yet from a freshman such as Hirschman. A JC kid would afford JE another year to see if he can get the Mullen 2012 kid.

I think they will go this way if they think this kid could be in the mix to start for 2012, if not 2011.

I have misgivings about this, if true. Nothing against the young man. Not his fault that the Buff roster goes from Sr to RSFr at QB.

However, juco's have been very hit-or-miss in recent years, both in getting into school and getting on the field.

I hope it works out better this time.

Didn't it say somewhere that he was a full qualifier (left Middle Tenn St) and anyway has graduated? Getting in shouldn't be a problem, right?

Well he'll add a little depth to the position. Not really impressed with his credentials / offer sheet. Middle Tennessee State?

You would think he wouldn't have issues getting admitted. But we are talking juco and CU admissions office, so.......

Simply stated, we needed more depth at this position. He won't knock off Hansen, but it's only 2 years of a scholarship and we need it.

The problem generally comes with transferring coursework from the JUCO. They have to be able to transfer in a certain number of credit hours in order to be accepted to CU. Since CU doesn't accept PE classes, etc. - that causes a lot of JUCO kids problems. But it sounds like this kid will enroll immediately?

He's adding depth to a horribly thin position. I would have preferred Berglund, but that ship has sailed.

Burnette has accepted the scholarship offer. We can add him to the commitment list. (He's also scheduled to come for an official on the weekend of the 15th, but I wonder if he pushes that up and gets himself enrolled ahead of that.)

He is supposed to be a mid-year transfer who will be competing during spring ball. I think it's very good news that we added an upperclassman to push Hansen this year and be in the mix for the starting job in 2012. Plus, I feel a hell of a lot more comfortable about our situation in case of injury in 2011. This is a good move by Embree.

    Welcome to the Buffs, Brent!

In all fairness I believe MTSU has made more bowl games then we have over the past few years. I hear what your saying though. You never know, he may have been asked to grayshirt at some solid schools.

Anybody have any insight into why he left MTSU? Seems like when he was on the field there he performed, but wasn't on the field all that much.

I googled and all I could find was the following, from the MTSU athletic site:

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Middle Tennessee Head Coach Rick Stockstill announced today that redshirt freshman quarterback Brent Burnette has quit the team and will not return for the 2010 season. Burnette, who informed Stockstill of his decision on Friday afternoon, will transfer at the end of the semester.

Burnette, who redshirted in 2008, played in eight games last season and completed 13 of 25 passes for 160 yards and two touchdowns. In the New Orleans Bowl victory over Southern Miss, Burnette came in and completed 2 of 3 passes for 45 yards and a touchdown.

When your opponents annually include Louisiana-Lafayette, Louisiana-Monroe, Arkansas State, North Texas, Western Kentucky, Florida Atlantic, and Florida International -- you damn sure better be going to a bowl game!

He's 6-3, how the hell is he supposed to drill the o-line in the back of the head with the ball?

He was a redshirt freshman and was behind another young QB, even though he was playing.

The kid looks solid, like a more athletic version of Nick Hirschman. Great body for a QB peaking over 6'3", 220. Looks like he has a great arm, quick release. You have to wonder why he hasn't caught on but i know MTSU has had a pretty damn good QB at the helm over the past two years so maybe it was a Tebow like situation where he didn't see himself beating him out and went the JUCO route. We need depth in the worst way and this guy looks to have a more live arm than Hansen so i'm good with it. If it was me, i'd have 5 or 6 QB's on scholarship AT LEAST. I'd take the kid committed to Wyoming if we can get him as well. You can never have enough talented QB's. You have to give yourself options unlike the BS situation CU is in right now with a Junior and a RS Freshman as the only scholarship players on the team at the position. What a joke.

We need to get CYLER MILES next year too.
