Seems like the coaches have started to assert themselves going after taken kids. This is where the game gets interesting.

This kid seems to have some ability. Definitely size and some drive blocking ability. I think he needs a bunch of coaching but I can see the potential there. He kicks inside on the next level because of his short height. He fits a requirement we need and are looking for.... we need guys who can move the LOS 2 yards in our favor. We have one or two guys that can do that right now and that's it.

@GregBiggins indicated on twitter that Folasa is visiting Colorado in two weeks.

Gotta admit, this one does not make much sense on a few different levels.

Ummmm... Care to share why you think that? I like what I see in the highlights. Show good quickness and power at OT. Looks like a OG for us and our team could really use the size on the OLine!

    1. His size (particularly his height) limits his versatility at the next level. He is destined to be a guard at that size.
    2. It seems like the coaches have not been keen on bringing in many OL this cycle. Given that some of the DL recruits may eventually be moved over and that we have limited space left anyway, I just do not understand Folasa being the kind of player you take regardless of circumstances.

    1. Seriously? I'm not guessing you played football... I would GLADLY take all the 6'2/330lb mawlers clearing the path for our RB's over what has been trotted out there over the last few years. He looks plenty good on his feet in his tape and actually pulls from his OT position. Plus, he will only replace fat with muscle once the training staff works on him.

    2. Seems to me, the coaches have tried and come in 2nd and 3rd place on MANY OLineman. Where you been?

In conclusion, I love adding some MUCH needed size to this team!

    1. I would take anything over what we have seen the last few years on OL. Does not mean I want us to start recruiting a bunch of 6-2/330 guys.

    2. A lot of those guys they are missing out on are really good to great prospects. Are you prepared to say Folasa is at that level?

    3. We do not have many spots remaining. At all. At this point, I feel we are better served just moving on from OL unless Cyburt shocks everyone. Make it a priority next class.

    1. Signing ONE player does not consist of a "bunch".

    2. He committed to UCLA back in July. He isn't as heralded as the guys we've missed. But I'm still happy to see us get something as long as he isn't a big worthless blob. Watching his film, I feel he could be a good get. If he's 6'4, he's probably a 3 or 4 star guy.

    3. At this point, I'm going to agree with our coaching staff. If they feel this guy is worth the spot, I agree. To me, you can never have enough OL and DL players at the beginning of a rebuilding program.

It is a strange decision considering the circumstances. I wonder if he even has a commitable offer at this point?

    1. You seemed to imply you would take a number of those guys in the previous post. My mistake.

    2. He did commit to UCLA back in July, but that does not stop schools from continuing to recruit players, especially in light of the UCLA staff's uncertainty as the season wore on. And if he is 6-4, our conversation is not happening.

    3. Linemen are great and our coaching staff has aggressively filled those needs on both sides of the football in their first two classes. But we need DBs in the worst way as well. I would rather use most of the remaining ships to upgrade the speed and athleticism in our secondary. It is imperative we do so if we want to be competitive in the Pac-12 anytime soon.

It would be interesting to have a big powerful inside O-lineman clearing holes up the middle for our running backs.

I would also assume that the AFA offer means that academics are not going to be an issue.

The kid's ok. Not great. Watched his film and he's a wide bodied kid. Not particularly explosive or powerful, he just had great size vs. kids that didn't. OL is often the most poorly evaluated position, so i could be wrong but I have some slight reservation here. I watched the Cochran kid play and he was similar size... that guy was menacing. This kid COULD be menacing, just don't see it consistently on film. i won't be unhappy if we get him, he just doesn't blow me away either. I could see Irwin playing LG, this guy playing RG.

I agree with Boulder Buff though. I would be more than okay skipping OL with our last five spots and really going straight defense. Yuri/Solomon/Simmons/Jacobs would be great. Kaumatele would be awesome as well. I don't' know how it's going to happen but if we're still in it for Rippy, boom, boom boom.

If I had to guess, I'd think Mr Folasa was working the UCLA recruit math in his head. Interestign to see how this turns out.

In light of the Crawley and Wright commitments, I like taking Folasa here. We recruited OL last year (especially when you add Nembot switching), so it wasn't a big priority for this year's class, but we could use another road grader on the inside. I agree with Highlander that this kid looks like a RG.

Regarding OL in general, it's probably the one area where stars and rankings mean pretty much nothing. Creating a good OL is all about the coaching and the weight program. Look at the Cornholers. They always have a good OL and they're all just big farm kids that go into that system and come out studs. We need to create that kind of system and it looks like it's coming. Just get kids with the right measurables, mean dispositions and a willingness to work hard, and let the coaches do their thing.
