According to Scout, CU is the first program to offer. http://california.scout.com/2/1045862.html

Once again, it looks like Embree, Bieniemy and Marshall are favoring road grader types for the guard position. We keep offering massive guys for that position.

I like our chances here too, another early commit hopefully.

Any particular reason you like our chances with this guy, or just kind of a gut feeling?

Bullard is an interesting case (as is Jordan Williams) because I'm wondering how the coaches are working out the numbers for OL this year. There are several guys that like us early and could be early commits. But which one are actual "takes"?

We need about 7-10 OL depending on attrition. 7 minimum, 10 max, plenty of scholarships to go around. My early wish list will include

    Lacy Westbrook
    Stephon Mccray
    Paul Thurston
    Brian Calahan
    Alex Kozan
    Jordan Williams

We do not need 7-10 OL this year. We need about 5.

I'm really glad that McCray is visiting for the Spring Game. He seems really focused on succeeding in all the interviews I've read.

Behrens, Tao, Iltis, Ryan Miller, Adkins, Daniels and Givens could be kicked off the team hopefully he is pardoned. That makes it 7 Ol lost this coming cycle.

In 2012 7 OL will reamain with 3 incoming freshman that will make it 10 OL on scholarship. A good number to have is about 17-20 OL on scholarship, you have to account for attrition and etc.

Just because the previous regime took too many OLs in a single class does not mean the mistake should be repeated. Straight replacement is not the way to go about recruiting.

Ideally, you have 3-4 OLs per class. This year, I might go to 6 but no way do I think you can justify more than that. If you did 10, you'd literally be projecting that half of your signees in a position group will never start.

6 is a good number, but i will go with 7 because you never know about attrition. You need about 10 Ol signed in a 2 year span, so you can evenly space it out and have enough bodies to practice,. We can sign 7 guys next year to go with the 3 signed this year. I get your argument about Hawkins. But we are now running a new scheme, we needto recruit for that scheme. We are running a pro-style system featuring a power running game. We need more athletic, big physical OL for that system. Not everyone will start, when you recruit, you know not every one is going to make it, i know it is cold thing to say, but it is reality.

Any links to the report. With the amount of offers going out, it sure looks like we are going to be signing more than 6 OL.

I think it was a Rivals article, but I'm not sure. At the WNIT right now. I'll try to find it when I get home.

Edit: I know I read the quote. Wasn't able to find it this morning.

We will take 5-6 offensive linemen this cycle. Any more than that is a waste.

Still wonder if the coaches would take a commitment from McCray right now.

BTW, there is some talk that McCray could play on the other side of ball at the next level.

Interest is picking up for McCray. Hard to tell if he is leaning toward any particular school right now.

If he can stay slim, he is a completely different player.

    Committed to Arizona St.

Too bad, would have been a nice pickup and we had a legit chance of getting him. That's now six commitments in the past week for ASU.

Yikes. It is beginning to look like our OL recruiting success this year will hinge on our ability to flip 2-3 guys, which is not an entirely comforting feeling. Be interesting to see how this all plays out though.

Yeah, the recruit shake-down is on at ASU. "we only have a few spots left"...

Not to sound like the eternal optimist, which is out of fashion these days , but really, if they play up to their potential, they are going to sign a great class. If they flop, nearly every kid on their commit list will be looking around. More so than most teams, as they are really peddling the "we are the new USC garbage". They are hard selling the pre-season predictions whereby UCLA can't as they don't have that promise to point to, even though both staffs are on their last rites.

If they don't win pretty big, they will be looking for a new head coach.
