Originally from Sandy, Utah, the mammoth lineman committed to UNLV out of high school in 2006, decided to go on a Mormon mission, changed his mind and wanted to go to Utah but couldn't get a qualifying test score. He was a JUCO all-american for Mt. SAC last year as an OL, but he prefers defense and will play there this year (they had a logjam at the position in 2010).

He'd have 2 years to play and be available for spring ball. Signing Salt would go a long way toward replacing Cunningham and Obi while also improving the class balance on the DL a bit.

Could he be as big of a get as Julius Peppers was? Wait, is that an island I see in the distance?

It seems we don't have many DL offers out there

Not sure how to make a recruit thread about his guy but it looks like on Scout that CU is in on him. I think he would be another guy we could look at to add more experienced depth to the OL for next year.

I love that his eyes burn red. I consider it an important characteristic in a defensive lineman.

I would be concerned about his admission status. CU admissions has been notoriously bad about getting JC guys transfered in and if he is a Dec. Juco grad the turnaround time to get him in for spring is very short. We also run into the issue of qualifying him with his transfer credits since admissions seems to have a thing about not taking big blocks of credit from JCs

It would be great to have him in since it would take care of some depth issues in the D-line while balancing classes some. Also with him being a bit older guy (did a mormon mission) you would assume he has a higher level of maturity and could be a good influence as a team leader.

I don't know of any teams that have suffered from an excess of talent big men in the middle of their lines so if the coaches think he can play I would welcome him, just concerned about getting him past admissions.

I dunno, I've kinda soured on the jc route. Seems like 1/2 of the jc's that commit to the Buffs never get admitted. It seems like time not well spent.

Nothing against this young man. By all means, if he has a good academic record and all the requisite courses (no p.e., etc), and he wants to come to Boulder.... Well, we'll see. I'm just not gonna get my hopes up.

Even when they do get admitted, it's like they have to jump through 1,000 hoops to do so. Simmons and Mohler both had to take like absurd extra units to get in didn't they? It's probably just not worth it unless we get in on someone really early and babysit their classes and stuff. Have to make sure they aren't counting PE units or Ds or anything like that.

Has anybody called Mt. San Antonio CC to see if he'll be able to get in?

It's not too far from me, I'll drop by tomorrow morning and every subsequent morning after that to see what's up.

^^This^^ It seems like even when we have a kid with everything in order getting him in becomes a major problem. With a guy who is planning to graduate in fall and enter for spring semester I question the ability to get him in that quickly.

I was hoping he would be interested in playing OG for us but DT sounds good too.

I believe there is a big difference in admitting a JC transfer vs a JC graduate.

Not for admissions. Where it matters is whether he has enough coursework that can be used to fulfill the eligibility requirements of being on a path to finish a major within 5 years.
