Scout has now rated Mitchell as a 3* player.
ESPN, which inexplicably had him as a 1*, now has him at 2*.
Here's what ESPN said about his game in a January 2012 scouting report:
Strengths:
Mitchell, who is left-handed, is a wiry wing-type with an intriguing upside. In addition, to his ideal frame (long arms) for the next level, his quickness is impressive. He has solid ball skills in the open court and a nice 1st step to the basket. He has a knack to score from all three levels, but especially off the bounce.
Weaknesses:
Mitchell needs to continue to hone his ball skills (especially while being pressured) and become a more consistent 3-point shooter.
Bottom Line:
Mitchell is one of those sleeper-types that will be unveiled during the up-and-coming spring/summer evaluation period. He needs strength and continued skill development, but there is a lot to like with Mitchell

Here's a sampling of what has been said about Mitchell this spring while playing AAU with his Pump 'N Run Elite team:
Scout (Las Vegas tourney):
Jelani Mitchell, SG/PG, Pump N’Run Elite: Mitchell didn’t get a ton of scoring opportunities in a win over Arizona Select, but made the most of the touches he received. The lanky guard mostly played off the ball but made some crisp passes to teammates, knocked down a floater and pulled up off the dribble to hit a three.

Hoop Review:
6'4" SG/SF 2013 Jelani Mitchell of Muir HS (Pump N Run Elite)
-Athletic wing with long arms. Can handle and pass, finishes in transition, capable driver, decent shooter with three point range.
