That is pretty impressive. A 3.0 gpa while playing a sport - which as far as the time commitment is concerned has got to be about the equivalent of a 30+ hour a week job - is pretty impressive.

Not to mention that they take the equivalent of a mid-term exam just about every week on TV ...

Congrats to those 14, as others have already posted, definitely a big accomplishment while playing D1 BCS conference football.

Have to add - for those of you here who keep referring to the H-uskers as hicks and rednecks - 22 Nebraska players earned the honor - 2nd in the conference to Texas with 23. Nebraska does stand for academic as well as athletic excellence. :wink2:

Congrats to all the Buffs, H-uskers and the rest of the Big 12 athletes who earned this honor.

It's easy to get As when you are awarded them for being on the football team.

Congratulations to those nebraska players as well.

However, why did you "have to add" this tidbit here? I find your choice to include this information absolutely perplexing.

It doesn't correspond on any level to the thread title (not that Allbuffs adheres to any consistency of content and titles). But it doesn't really belong here, in my opinion.

Maybe you could store the information and then dust it off to support a point you're making in an argument somewhere down the road. Otherwise, you just look like that annyoying little kid in class, jumping up and down, making farting noises and saying, "look at me, look at me" when someone else is talking.

Like I said, congratulations to those guys, and to all of the Big XII recipients--in my opinion it demonstrates what student athletes should be about. But I don't see Kansas State fans (or any other school's fans) posting that kind of information over here. Why would you?

Because of the ignorant Buffs fans (not you!) who are ALWAYS posting crap about "Nowledge U", "kNu", and idiotic stuff like Daaah did directly above your post.

I agree with what you said though - it demonstrates what student athletes SHOULD be, and we should both be proud of our team and player's accomplishments in that regard.

Sincere congrats to those Buffs, and Happy Thanksgiving - to them and to you.

actually, I would like to see what the major was....

I remember watching a college football game and there was a senior listed with his major: undecided.

Regardless, it's a great accomplishment for any D1 athlete.

I'd rather not get into this. All these guys deserve their props. Just because over half of the Nebraska honorees were Undeclared or majoring in Construction, Nutrition or Agriculture isn't a reason to diminish their accomplishment.

I started to write a long essay on academic achievement and sports... and then I stopped because it really discredited the core of the system of giving grades, rather than actually focusing on learning.

I actually am impressed by any Division 1 athlete. I know several and the time committment to their sport makes me wonder how they have much time for studying. I believe that their sport IS their major and the school needs them to have an academic major in addition to the sport to justify its' existence.

Understand - you meant it about the athletes, and I agree. The Universities - all of them - are putting way too much load on the typical D1 athlete to excel at both athletics and academics, making those who do even more outstanding.
