Stevie Thompson may be the Buffs main target at SG now.

Verbal commits shows a CU offer on 5/2 and also has the following scouting report:

    James Kerti, National Scout

Stephen Thompson, Jr. is an excellent shooter off the catch with range beyond the three-point line. His high basketball IQ, passing ability, and slashing game from the wing give us offensive game multiple dimensions. His instincts and length help him disrupt ball-handlers and passing lanes at the other end. - See more at: http://www.verbalcommits.com/players/stephen-thompson-jr-ca#sthash.r5iyTcpS.dpuf

Not to get the comparisons going overboard at this point but the shooting ability and offer list (smart kid) remind me of another combo guard with a mustache.

I know Tini posted the pic, but damn this kid looks just like the Mayor did his senior year. Even has the porn peach fuzz stache.

Not quite as tall or athletic as Mayor. Of course, very few guards are.

But Stevie Thompson would fit in great here. Good length. Defends. Good passer. Can find seams to slash to the basket. And most importantly -- gives us a guy who can knock down shots from anywhere. Could very well be one of those guys who other teams have to extend and guard when he's got the ball 27 feet away from the basket.

Haha I didn't even notice they look similar when I posted that picture. Come on down and be a part of something special. We've got a great front court and our PG of the future...we need a shooter.

Also from the highlights, his jump stop and teardrop are pretty damn good. He is quick and makes guys miss. His ability to hit from the outside also allows him to get a first step on a defender that comes outside to stop his shot.

I understand following your dad to a school if he's the head coach....not sure I understand following your dad when he's an assistant coach.

Tad's been on the good side of it when he played for Larry Brown. Sure, Danny Manning's dad didn't look like he was doing much while sitting on the Kansas bench in a suit. But they did end up winning a national championship.

My main assumption is that in basketball, assistant coaches move around a good amount. Is that assumption wrong? So with that thinking, it seems weird that a kid would follow his dad as a AC and not the HC. But what the hell do I know?

Any recruit that doesn't chose CU has questionable decision making. FACT

Or there's the "you get to play for your dad, but don't have to deal with him being questioned by the fans non-stop if things go bad" angle. I can see it.

That's what you got out of my post? Oh dear...

That's true, but just seems weird going to a school where your dad is the AC knowing that he could not be there in a year.

In the current "cartel" legal climate, I believe the NCAA is reluctant to deny player requests. The rules are very questionable as they currently are written in terms of penalizing student-athletes if they want to transfer to a new school while their coaches earn millions of dollars in the process of leaving them high and dry and universities have millions of dollars they are willing and able to spend on coach contract buy-outs and new coach salaries when they decide to terminate a coaching staff. It seems that the only Party of the agreement who is expected to remain loyal and is penalized for opting out of the agreement is the player. And this seems especially egregious in light of the fact that the college only commits to 1 year of financial aid which it can decide not to renew with no penalty, but the player faces a year of non-compete if he opts not to renew along with limitations to where he can transfer and some onerous penalties stacked onto the transfer by some conferences.

In short... this is a fight that the NCAA does not want to have and would rather break its own rules in the short term until they can be changed. Better than allowing the courts to tell the NCAA what its rules are going to be.
