Rivals 2014 season watch list (JUCO strong side DEs)

To the south at Palomar College, quarterbacks in the conference will be fully aware of where Dylan Donahue is at lining up all times. Donahue put up staggering numbers a season ago when he registered 67 tackles with 15 tackles-for-loss and nine sacks for the Comets. At 6-foot-3 and 255 pounds he runs a 4.55 and has seen interest from USC, Colorado State, Utah, Texas Tech, Miami, Washington State, Cincinnati, Illinois, Texas State and Nevada during the spring. Donahue could end up being a weakside guy given his tweener size, but his film is off the charts as he is fast and physical, with a bevy of bone-jarring hits. You have to see him!

Who timed that 40 and when did he run it? Holy schnikes.

Good article from when he was in high school: http://billingsgazette.com/sports/h...cle_e6fce4d4-dda8-11df-8009-001cc4c002e0.html

    Some snippets...

“My dad taught me that the harder you go on the football field, the more successful you’re going to be,” Donahue said. “He had a nose for the ball — he just had a sense for where the ball was going to be. He’s passed that on to me. I just try to go as hard as I can on every play and get to the football as fast as I can.”

Being Mitch Donahue’s son hasn’t always been an easy label for Dylan to wear, and it’s easy to see why. Mitch, a 1986 West High grad, went on to become the two-time Western Athletic Conference defensive player of the year (1989-90) as a defensive end and linebacker at Wyoming, and he played four years in the NFL (1991-94).

    [Said coach Paul Klaboe]:
“Our biggest problem with Dylan is he doesn’t ever slow down. There are certain things we can’t run in practice because Dylan will get in there and blow it up. He’s so quick off the edge that we can’t block him. Sometimes we’ll just have to take him out so we can run some plays.”

Son of a former Denver Bronco ... granted Mitch Donahue only played in Denver for one season. Just spoke to Dylan, working on a story.

Also, a big hat tip to KyleM. Like with a lot of offers, he was the first in the CU social media to report the offer.

Rep that guy if you get a chance. (For this, and all of his other hard work.)

Our prospects are brightening. Potential here. Staff gaining traction. Finding players and responding.

Prospects like Dylan appearing. Is it football season soon? Hope so. Go Buffs!

Film reminds me a lot of Morgan Breslin, the JC DE we had a shot at a couple of years ago before USC stepped in. Had a very good career at USC before the injury bug hit him. Would love to get this kid. Has a great motor and brings ideal size and speed for an edge rusher.

Recruiting him at DE? If the 40 is accurate, he's quick enough to be an olb too.

I think our D might be scary in 2015 if a couple of these guys work out. We already might see an improved pass rush this year.

I see what they mean by a high motor. Wow. 6'3" seems a bit generous, even for roster standards. I'm all for him - Reminds me of Rudy (damn, I hate those fans).

He said all the schools interested like him as a stand-up DE ... hybrid ... whatever you like to call it.

Someone with his size and motor can be dominate at the Big 5 level. Ryan Mueller at KSU comes to mind.

Guys like this can make GREAT Buffs! We need big motor guys to get us back to the top! I'm glad the staff was willing to be 1st to offer him... However, that may just open the door for a UCLA, USC or Oregon to open their eyes and ruin our day...

Good to see the 40 time, but I really don't care about 40 times for any player on the lines. I'd rather know how his 3-cone or 10 yard time stack up.

So pretty much he is waiting for more offers so he can pick a different team. I get the impression he has fairly low interest in Colorado but appreciates the offer.

Don't know if that's the case, didn't mean to convey that. I think he's just starting to sort it all out after not getting much attention coming out of high school. Donahue sounded like he truly plans to visit Boulder FWIW.

That was my read from your article. Sounds like he'd like some more offers and then would make a decision based on researching his options. Not negative about CU. Seemed to appreciate the offer. Probably thinks he should have more.

fwiw, if he isn't able to graduate in December then he won't be pulling as many offers as he would if he can be available for the spring.

Dylan read the story and he said he realized he misspoke regarding the offer. He said he incorrectly reported to me and JCGridIron.com a Colorado offer when it is actually Colorado State. He said he was confused on the coach Macs. I wanted to apologize for the mistake. Colorado is recruiting him, but the Buffs have not offered as of yet.

That makes more sense, in a way. At least he found out before he got to Ft. Collins!

Not the first time that a recruit has had an "Oh, ****. It's the Mountain West school that's recruiting me" moment after saying he had a CU offer.

Given that, I think everyone feels a little better about Donahue slow playing this in hopes of better offers.
