2013-14 CU MBB SOS Watch (OOC & Pac-12 Opponents)

How much does our pre-Spencer injury resume matter?

It matters a lot as long as CU keeps playing quality basketball. If there's a collapse, then the committee will hugely discount the overall record. If my impressions of past years is accurate, it has had more effect on seeding than selection.

Wednesday:

Georgia 9-7 (3-1) vs South Carolina 7-10 (0-4)

Wyoming 11-6 (2-2) @ Air Force 9-8 (3-3)

Oregon State 10-7 (2-3) @ Washington State 8-10 (1-5)

Cal 14-4 (5-0) @ USC 9-9 (0-5)

OSU and Wazzu both seem to be playing better lately.

Wazzu could hardly play any worse than they did at Zona. Then their leading scorer, DaVonte Lacy, went down in the next game with a rib injury. If they get him back and keep playing the better defense they have lately, they will steal a few wins in conference play.

Beavs are turning into a pretty good team. They should be a good team. We'll see.

Seriously how random is the p12 this year? Cal looks terrible tonight and USC looks competent. So Pac12.....

Lot of time left in this one obviously but seems like Cal let 5-0 with an upcoming trip to UCLA get to their head. Looks like there could be a serious logjam in the standings this year after Arizona all the way down to ??

Yeah. USC's going to the FT line after the break for 1. Up by 14. Under 12 minutes left.

Cal looks so bad right now it almost makes we wonder if this won't be the start of a mid-season slump as opposed to one off-night, but if anyone can prevent that it's Monty. Serious confidence shaker, though.

Hard to imagine our last game and this result. Hope springs eternal ...... :)

USC 77 Cal 69 final.

Nice to see Cal lose and keep us within range of them. Tough stretch for Cal coming up, likely more losses on the way. A win in the desert this week would be so huge for our top 4 hopes.

Dance party at the Coliseum tonight will be held by DJ Mal-Ski, the USC trojan and LA sparks' official DJ!

Thursday:

Colorado 15-4 (4-2) @ #1 Arizona 18-0 (5-0): No use playing the "what ifs". We are what we are. Here's a chance to go up against the #1 team in the nation in their house. The ultimate test. We've never feared Arizona before. I hope to see a scrappy, unintimidated Buffs. Even a respectable loss would bode well for a crucial upcoming game in Tempe.

Elon 10-9 (3-1) @ Chattanooga 12-8 (6-0): Elon was the preseason SoCon favorite. Here's their chance to prove that's still realistic.

UT-Martin 6-15 (1-5) vs Eastern Illinois 6-12 (3-4)

Utah 14-4 (3-3) @ Arizona State 13-5 (2-3): Chance for Utah to really show they're capable of pushing for a top half finish. Here's to a brutal slug-fest that goes to 3OT.

UCSB 11-5 (2-1) @ UC-Riverside 6-12 (1-3)

Stanford 12-5 (3-2) @ UCLA 14-4 (3-2): This is a big opportunity for Stanford and Dawkins.

Oregon 13-4 (1-4) @ Washington 11-8 (3-3): Oregon needs to stop their losing skid, and fast (from their perspective. Can go 1-17 for all I care). Never easy to do that on the road.

If it's a close game and we lose, you know we'll never hear the end of "If Spencer had played... we win."

ESPN latest bracketology has Kansas as a #1 seed despite its 4 losses! If Kansas can go on a roll now that certainly helps our Tourney chances.

We have to do something post Spencer to ensure making the tournament...anything pre Spencer will not hold the same weight anymore

To give everyone an idea of the gauntlet KU has run this year, I was looking at the Strength of Schedule ranks on RealTimeRPI last night. KU is the only program with a .7 or higher SOS. No one else is even at .61 (and there are less than 10 above .60). Brutal schedule and it's not going to drop much in Big 12 play.

No it really isnt. I thought the b12 would be down again this year with the exception of baylor and ok state, but it looks like there are no easy nights anymore. Texas, OU are tough at home too, and could dance.
