You can easily look at other Pac 12 programs, particularly UCLA and Utah who are not that far ahead of CU in the rankings, and reasonably suggest that CU's class, including Alfano, was every bit as good if not better than both of those. I think there's some merit there because, in a vacuum, 7th in the Pac 12 and 35th in the country isn't good enough. Adding in a "newcomer" with the talent and rating of Alfano puts this "class" squarely in the top 33% of the conference which is where Tucker needs to live year in, year out.
To me, that's a different evaluation: roster management. We could look at transfer additions vs attrition losses. On that criteria, I give Tucker an A even though Viska left early. We'd likely be right near the top of the conference this year.

Yeah there are different ways you can look at things, and I think we all pretty satisfied with the incoming class and transfers. I guess I just view it a little differently with a player of Alfano's caliber being part of the transfer group.

DARRIN CHIAVERINI - COLORADO
When Mel Tucker was announced as Colorado’s head coach, he retained three coaches from Mike MacIntyre's old administration. One of those retained was wide receivers coach Darrin Chiaverini, who has become one of the Buffaloes’ top recruiting assistants.

In the 2020 class, Chiaverini was responsible for two of Colorado’s three four-star commitments. Cornerback Christian Gonzalez had been committed to Purdue for several months when Chiaverini flipped him to Colorado in November, and he also nabbed Rivals250 receiver Brenden Rice out of Arizona. Chiaverini also was able to flip three-star receiver Keith Miller III from Kansas in June.

247 has him listed at 82, as much as I love his effort this seems more accurate based on the coaches ahead of him. With everything going on the last 6 plus years prior it's a testament to how good he really is. Now that the Buffs are going to be winning again I believe he's really going to shine and be a true top 25 recruiter. He's going to be a coach the Buffs are going to have to fight to keep. Love this man

This is as goofy an exercise as grading a draft class on the Sunday after the draft.....but I'll play. I'm gonna go solid B for right now, but let's see what happens when we get these kids here.

Participation trophies for all. I think it would be more fun to identify which poster will remind everyone how smart they were because they predicted this back in 2020.

Participation trophies are what Fusker nation hands out after they get boatraced by Ohio State on national TV

Sure as **** didn't feel like a C class...

I appreciate the bumping up the floor perspective as future improvement, but this is an A class as relevant to the depths of **** this Buffs team has been through over the last 15 years.
Correct

If I was grading on a curve I'd give it a solid B, all things considered. Seeing as how the games ain't scored on a curve it comes out a C. 65 teams in the power 5 means that the top 13 get an A, 14-26 is a B then 27 to 39 is a C. We had the 35th best class in the nation. Mel really needs to recruit at a much higher level if we are to compete for a PAC 12 championship.
Sounds like you're grading on a curve, where the grades of all participants are determined via relation to that of the other participants rather than completely on their own merits.

Let’s just grade it like you would assign grades any other way. 125/90 = 112.5

1-13 = A
13-26= B
26-39 = C

Colorado is a C. It’s better than any class in recent memory. It’s good enough to compete and win games and make bowl games. It’s not good enough for any championship aspirations.

I think the class overall is a B+. They filled up many needs. Hit with 4* at safety, rb and wr (Rice is list as both 3 and 4*). Transfers are good. IMO, this year, CU was able to attract a higher level player all the way around.

I do think with CU lack of winning, and the inflation of recruit's rankings to the blue bloods, tends to lower CU's player recruit rankings a bit, whether they stop rising in the rankings, or they are just underestimated, then ignored.

As for the coaches' recruiting grade, I would give them an A/A-. Coming off a 3rd 5-7 season, 2nd year for MT, lack of bowls--I think the staff did really well and this class although not a home run is a strong step in the right direction. The staff closed well, even if that meant just hanging onto commitments. It seemed like the staff focused on areas of need and provided recruits a good future vision of the direction of CU football. Finally, I think MT and staff are viewed positive and are seen as honest brokers.
