Ole Miss only has a few years of big NIL money coming in before that well will run dry. They are similar to CU in that they have a few very wealthy donors that will go all-in for a short period but can't fund an arms race against the upper half of the SEC in perpetuity. Lane bettter hope this pays off now.

I think HCPrime’s 40-40-20 plan makes a ton of sense. Look at Georgia CB Harris, above, still has 3 years to play. With the Transfer portal, relying on HS recruits to come in and spend all of their 4/5 years at one school is more and more unlikely, and most freshmen need a year or two to develop and transition to CF level. Yet, you can pick a really good CB from a top team with 3 years still left to work into your system.
And you likely have tape of the transfer's AT the college level.

Literally, repeatedly argued that the outcome of the Orange Bowl would be informative.
Transfer Portal is really going to kill what little meaning remains for the bowl games.
Joel Klatt had a great little rant about the college football calendar and how crazy stupid it is.
Basically if it was the NFL, end regular season, at peak national interest, stop playing games for a couple weeks, start free agency and the draft, throw in some random exhibition games, then play the playoffs.
What a great way to make sure coaching staffs can handle things effectively.
Really puts kids like Rodemaker and Texas' backup QB in a rough spot where playing for their team means missing out on their peak opportunity for leverage in earning some money and finding the best place to develop at.

With the 12 team playoff, should only give one week off between Conf. Championships and the playoff.
Just throw the low tier bowl games on during the weekdays.
The big break in college football before the bowls was to allow time for the players to study and take their final exams for the semester. Football was invented by college students and taken over by, well, something else.
That makes sense, i never knew that.
The issue that Klatt sort of settled on as the thesis of his rant is that all of the calendar and organization of the FBS is this Frankenstein's monster that's been pieced together with a bunch of patchwork solutions and no forward thinking vision.
We're long overdue for something to replace the NCAA and have football run separate from the other varsity sports.

You could turn the early signing period back into what it used to be as only for preps & JCs enrolling early.
But that doesn't account for transfers. Most are going to want to be at their new home for spring semester practices, so they need to make a decision before February.
I'm not sure this issue has a good solution. Even if we start the playoffs immediately after the last week of games without playing conference championship games, that still starts a 4-week playoff the first weekend in December.

And there is this pesky thing called the academic calendar, where decisions have to be complete before the end of the first week of January for all those involved in the spring semester.
75% of these guys aren't gonna get paid. You'd think Nolen would've realized after seeing this at A&M. Ole Miss's money is pretty much smoke and mirrors.
Admissions still has to review transcripts and the people who work at universities are on vacation in between semesters. When are they reviewing? It's almost like there's tampering occurring and transcripts are being reviewed before players even enter the portal.
