2025 MBB Recruit Profile Index

Xavion Staton-On3 & 247Sports both reported today that Colorado Buffs in on Top-150 & rising 7’ 190 pound C.

- Also reporting CU’s other Center Target- Tee Barlet - stroking 3-ball. Both elite D, and skills to play on the perimeter with Tad’s 5-Out Offense. Like CU’s even earlier 2 target’s elite BigWing’s Chris Nwuli & Bynum.

In-case u didn’t see my 2026 recruiting post, there’s 3 Colorado guys certain to be high on CU’s radar. That only by finding those 3 sophomores, do I understand why 4 Bigs or BigWings above are only ‘25 guys I’m hearing CU is in-on so-far. So…..,

‘26Jeremiah Hammonds could be top 50, in nation, high-scoring/combo guard.

‘26 Placide twins, 6’9 Gavin (top 100 in nation?) who is inch taller and a little further along skill-wise, than his bro Gallagher (probably still top 150 in nation?).

‘25 :so waiting until ‘26 for guard-help & BigG’s/Wings makes more sense now. All-In on ‘25’s Barlett & Nwuli (elite 2-way, including steals and blocks, & open floor beast) though Staton may be even better TadBall fit (if Tad wants second rim protector w/ Nwuli)-but Staton BLOWING UP!

With this new info, I’m ALL-IN w/ Cali. PtG DeMarco Johnson. Some similarities to McKinley Wright. Luv his 7 foot wingspan.

Bigs: Would U want Buffs to take
A) Barlett: immovable object of a man, showing outside shot, still shot-blocker?

Or B) Staton-more elite -shot-blocking, rim-runner, more RAW, much thinner at Center?

Question 2; Big Wings; which do u prefer:

A) Bynum-highly skilled PF for 5-Out, including high-level play making/pass/shoot

B) Chris Nwuli: Elite 2-way/open court/above the rim w/ jumper/steals/blocks/energy/D

Or B) Staton-more elite -shot-blocking, rim-runner, more RAW, much thinner at Center?

While a guy like Station flashes more pro potential due to athleticism...a tank like Bartlett can still be highly successful in the college game.

Holy **** how did no one get this kid to start playing basketball until 9th grade? Dude looks incredible for someone who just started hooping.

LUV Rick Ray in with Chris Nwuli & Xzavion Staton, at Las Vegas’s Tarkanian Classic this last week. Bill Greer in w/ Tee Bartlett, who seems like bigger stretch for CU of the 3?

Rick also in with 3 bigG/Wings 2 guard 1-5:
1) Do we need elite althletc slasher:

CU in with some ‘25 Pt guards, but these are 4 they SHOULD be in with:
DeMarco Johnson @Marco3_ reminds me of McKinley Wright, 7-ft length, better shooter:
1)

2) Azavier Robinson Aka “stink @Azavierthegoat - lock-down defender, rebounder, down-hill player for paint-touches w/ improving jumper

3) Aaron Ace Glass @aceglass21 - up to 6’4, deep shoot-maker, creator off the dribble:

4) Omari Moore @OmariMoore7 - complete 2-way player, like the other 3. Only 1 outside our recruiting areas, in New Jersey.

Yes, I turn to Buffs recruiting when current Buffs team under-performing to keep me UP- as it is impressive what CU doing on recruiting front:

Frontcourt:
-Joe Hurlburt may yet become stretch big (3 pt shot there) with grab&go potential- to push it up-court himself after rebound (he has always had handles of small forward). Diop&Dak w/ skills to play 5-Out O, & athleticism to be special on D. Doryan Onwuchekwa gives us important lost-post scoring-as inside/outside guy. TadBall needs another big (Dak?) & maybe rim-protection (Rancik w/ sneaky athleticism, but likely to play more on the wing with Diop-like Tristan).

Backcourt:
- RJ Smith & Courtney Anderson have 3&D potential as secondary/tertiary ball-handlers in the vein of Nique Clifford. Still love Ruffin as slower 3-Pt shoooter, as his shot is the trailer 3 (last man up-court after his Rbd & outlet pass). Kossaras & Rancik may be our best 3 pt shooters as Frosh/Sophomores? Drew Crawford will be given ever opportunity to win PtG spot over RJ & Kossaras, but dicey to have Drew at 6’6/6’7 guarding the super quick guards (RJ’s top role is there). Don’t even need a great passer/play-maker at 1- as passing everywhere (especially Rancik) for future Buffs. Need quick & defensive-minded Pt/combo-as Tad says he wants 2nd team to push pace even more than first team does.

-Need toughness in front-court &/or backcourt for BIG12 too? Onwuchekwa may be our toughest future guy, but a little slow on perimeter (makes up for it at 3pt line & w/ passing). Maybe Dak gets there, but he’s too skilled to be a paint-grinder. He may become best rim-protector-in front of Rancik/Diop?

Tad obviously prioritizing ‘25 Big, but I’ve seen Twitter activity for couple point guards, positionless wings, & Power F types also. CU in w/ most of these guys already (rankings are my estimates on their final rankings):

Top-50 guys: Jovani Ruff (his dad played here)/ Staton (elite rim-protector)/Tee Barlett (True old-school post; huge size w/ amazing foot-work)/ Nwuli (elite 2-way 6’7/6’8 F)/ Frances Chukwudebelu (6’11 w/ 7’6 wing-span w/ very advanced perimeter game).

Top-75 guys:
Pt/combo guards: DeMarco Johnson (6’3 w/ 6’11 wing; complete game)/ Azavier Robinson (true dog on D that may be starting-caliber PtG)/ Aiden Disu (6’7 PowerF w/ advanced perimeter game)/ Kellen Hampton (6’7 wing with advanced O game)

Top 130/ Low 4-Star/ high 3-star guys: Zyree Collins (6’ 2-Way PtG w/ effortless paint touches)/ Ben Winker (6’10 w/ elite rebounding & under-valued D&O)/ Jaylon Dean-Vines (under-valued big 6’7 comboG)/ Jeremiah Hampton (super-under-valued big 6’4/6’5 2-guard w/ impressive O game).

Top-150 guys: Xavier Wilson (6’9 ComboG w/ serious D versatility; CU may b top of his short list at this early stage/
3 Pt/Combo Gs: Omari Moore & Ace Glass (Pt guards w/ serious shooting/scoring, & enough on D)/ Calvin Murphy III (has his grandfather’s elite quickness) /O’Marion Harvey (6’7 G)/ Gelonni “Juju” Ervin (6’8 Stretch F)/ Isaiah Kalala (under-valued 6’9 athletic F w/ versatileD at 3-5)/ Jeremiah Carter (6’7; mostly interior player now)

You can’t talk about ‘25 without acknowledging 3 Colorado natives in ‘26 (all playing in Utah): 6’8/6’9 Placide Twins (Gallagher & Gavin Top 75-100 range) & Julian’s brother- Jeremiah Hammonds (top 50 combo guard w/ unlimited O potential).

Mike Rohn - seems to focus on our top targets, including local Colorado kids.
Bill Grier - our California & International expert w/ deep ‘25 Cali class upcoming.
Rick Ray - seems to be the 1 that’s putting the time in with home-run guys recently- especially Texas guys (that really require all the coaches to be involved with).
Tad - At least 4 of recruits above are Missouri kids, which has been area Tad traditionally makes part of his regular recruiting stops. But, in-season, Tad relies on his assistant coaches as says he puts his time in developing his current kids. Got to think Texas & Mid-west become even more important in BIG12; Rick Ray has a lot of connections in mid-west (Like Tad does).

PS: What I love most about this ‘25 class is that all of the Top 50 guys and most of point/combo guards have some elite toughness! Especially Javoni Ruff/ Bartlett/Nwuli/Disu(brother of current Texas/future NBA Disu)/ (even under-valued 6’10 Ben Winker w/ toughs)- but most of the smallish point/combo guards above have seriously ELITE toughness! GO BUFFS!

PSS: In ‘24, I’m not convinced that all our seniors don’t leave & 1 of Cody (or 1 transfer) don’t leave & we STILL NEED 5th ‘24 recruit:
-Arizona’s 6’10 Makhan Diouf w/ perimeter game (& maybe rim-protection) top target?
- Or CU’s w/ long relationship w/ Cali’s 6’9 defensive post Abraham Oyeadier doubtful.
- 2nd choice? Arizona’s 6’7/6’8 Wing Jayce Nathaniel rising fast; but not as fast as Diouf. - 6’9 under-recruited PtG/Wing Amari Davis may still available by May?
- 2-Way PtG’s Amir McMillian & Dorian McMillian (no relation) may still b available 2?
- Or maybe Tad goes to portal for post help w/ Frosh Doryan Onwuchekwa & Hurlburt? Gotta think Dak still a candidate for Rdshirt year- if & when they have frontcourt depth?

CLIFF NOTES on last 6 months for ‘25s: Tad does tell us his priorities with his rare scholarship & visits offers. He started w/ PowerFs, then went to Posts, & Elite Guards:

- Came out of gate hard on Amare Bynum, great PowerF, inside/outside scoring, elite F for 5-Out O, that may be more of Do-everything Next Level NBA Pt Forward-like Tristan/Rancik? Bynum not reciprocating.

- But Las Vegas/California’s Chris Nwuli does seem to be reciprocating CU-interest. He added consistent jumper to go from high-energy/ open-court beast & defense ace (including blocks & steals) to another top PowerF for 5-Out O. Still in for CU visit?

- CU in early w/ Aiden Disu, who may not grow to his brother’s 6’10 height, but hope he adds an inch to 6’8. Disu strong & gritty, with advanced perimeter game. Lists himself as guard/powerF on X-Twitter. May not reach ranking of 1st two PowerFs; but may be just as effective in BIG12, as there’s been a lot of rugged 6’7/6’8 PowerF’s in BIG12 - that we just don’t have anyone to match-up with (unless Daks gains 20+ pounds in off-season; or Diop keeps adding weight).

- THEN the the immovable man 275 pound Tee Barlett says CU in his Top-5 or so & may get upcoming visit (USC w/ strong home-court advantage on him). I Hope he visits soon, because as maybe top Paint-Scorer in country, the longer he goes- the further we may go down his list of top choices?

- THEN Xavion Staton blows-up, 7’ 220 & CU seems to be in early & strong with a second Las Vegas/California guy also. He’s middle-blocker in volleyball too; & could have 10 block games in b-ball, he’s that dominant. But O mostly paint dunks now; which bode well for CU. As he’s considered some-what of a raw project w/ Sky-potential & so may or may-not garner national recruiting of Barlett.

- ‘24 Diouf also blew-up late-summer & fall, & CU has had at least some contact with him. 6’10 200ish, with sweet 3 pt shot & good mobility to guard the perimeter. Maybe could grow into rim-protector? But his big-time recruiting just starting his senior year, & he seems to want to ride it out until Spring. Advantage for CU is he wants to live close to Senegalese Community- in which Denver has 1 of biggest in US. Diop Senegalese too. He’s also little more raw, but 3 Pt shot plays!

Gotta think Tad would love 1 of the 3 PowerFs & 1 of the 3 Bigs (to keep Rancik/Diop & even Dak more on perimeter). But probably needs at least 1 PowerF/Big?

Surprisingly, to me (but it shouldn’t be), Tad’s gone after some top 2guards also (maybe he’s committed to RJ/Drew Crawford & Felix Kossaras being able to guard the point? Or maybe he just went after best guys first?)-including:
247Sports #12 Cali’s Brayden Burries;
247’s #34 Texas’s King Grace; and
247’s #38 Cali’s Jovani Ruff

Jovani Ruff only 1 of the 3 elite guards that CU seems to be getting traction with. Though I find it ridiculous that when he went from 6’3 to 6’5 & he’s suddenly listed as Small Forward on some boards. ComboG to Tad. If Tad gets either ‘25 Ruff or ‘26 Jeremiah Hammond; we’ll have our next NBA PtG! Not to say Ruffin/Crawford or Kossaras may not follow KJ Simpson to NBA? But great 2-Way guards, if not Ruff:
-247’s #90 Cali’s DeMarco Johnson
-247’s #118 Indianapolis‘ Azavier Robinson
-Rivals #113 Cali’s Aaron “Ace” Glass
<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-media-max-width="560"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">Jovani Ruff (<a href="https://twitter.com/jovani_ruff?ref_src=twsrc^tfw">@jovani_ruff</a> ).<br>2025 / 6’5 G-W. Not much to say other than he is a naturally gifted scorer. Had 34 points in a semi-final win over St. Francis. Still very much underrated as a national prospect. Still like 4 ‘25 guards above, but looks like CU in with #52 ‘26 guard on new 247Sports ranking below: Seattle’s Katrelle Harmon. Gavin Placide at #71 of 80 on 247/#47 On-3. Jeremiah Hammond & Gallagher Placide not ranked yet- but should be Top-100-minimum

Katrelle recently dropped 50 Pts/10 Asts!

Gotta think guys who play 5-Spot top CU recruits, but love forwards CU in with: 4 star Chris Nwuli top Forward, then high 3 star/low 4 stars: 6’7 Disu & Spokane’s JuJu Erving?

https://twitter.com/juju_erv/status...228374&currentTweetUser=juju_erv&mode=profile

Feels like Buffs may only get 1 of top ‘25 targets: Bigs Staton/Bartlett; F Nwuli; G Ruff.

But like Buffs chances for:
-Bigs: Chukwudebelwu/ Ben Winker
-Forwards: Juju Erving (Stretch 4)/ Isaiah Kalala (poor man’s athletic/versatile Nwuli)
-Wings: Kellen Hampton (elite O)/ Xavier Wilson (ComboG/W/F w/ versatile/elite D)
-Guards: Aaron “Ace” Glass/ 6’7 Jaylon Dean-Vines/ Jeremiah Hampton
TOP ‘24’s - if all 4 seniors leave, & 1 of Cody or Julian (starting PtG elsewhere?) leave:
1) Stretch 4/5, w/ length to become rim-protector w/ Rancik/Staton/Nwuli/(Bartlett?):

2) Defensive-minded ComboF at 3/4 spots:

2025, still need:
1)Post: Xavion Staton/Tee Barlett/Ben Winker
2)Pt/ComboG:Jovani Ruff/DeMarco Johnson
3)MaybeWing: Xavier Wilson/Kellen Hampton

4) Forwards: Chris Nwuli dropping off radar? Biggest questions:
- Is CU in early enough for Aidan Disu (brother of Texas Longhorn; may blow-up too much for CU). Reminds me of a higher-ceiling 6’7 version of Hadley: efficient scorer around hoop, outside shot, D/Rbding, 5-Out Offense seems to create great lanes for active 4-spot to cut to the hoop in.
- In early enough w/ Gelonni “Juju” Ervin? Long 6’8, little more like Jabari Walkers game, maybe better fit-if doesn’t blow-up 2:

Other 2 Fowards-way-under-radar:
Maybe recruiting as tall Wing, ie: Luke/Diop?

Mostly paint game;maybe develop outside shot? Assuming CU coaches see something:
<blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">2025 6’7 Isaiah Carter (San Joaquin Memorial/CA) had a solid Day 1 showing <a href="https://twitter.com/FCPPangos?ref_src=twsrc^tfw">@FCPPangos</a> All-West F/S Camp! Thanks Mark! That’s exactly what I was about to post, regarding Jeremiah Green! So psyched to get On-3 throwing me a morsel that I didn’t have scrounge through Twitter 4! Does my heart good to see a Top PtG 4 us!

He’s known for serious dog on d, with quick first step that gets him lots of paint touches. Scores at rim, floater game, & mid-range j- but still improving on his 3-pt shot. Great balance of scoring & getting others involved.

Interesting that some of schools he was reporting near top of his list a year ago, or even a few months ago- most notably Oklahoma State- are gone off his final 10. CU, KU, & Virginia seem to be newest additions. Wanting to stay close to home in N Texas may be biggest challenge, but we’re in good with his desire to play early, find right fit to develop him for next level, & wanting family environment. Rick Ray on Twitter w/ him. Go Buffs! Need ‘25 Point Guard & Big!

Maybe still Staton/Nwuli/Xavier Wilson?
My DarkhorseFavs 4Futute Starting PF: Stephen Osei (tougher Dak-clone), Disu (G/PF; bigger/stronger Hadley-type), Juju Ervin (long, sweet-shooting Tad-type F).

Almost forgot PowerF’s w/ the most CU chatter: Michael Simcoe & Jeremiah Carter:

Simcoe w/ elite energy & shooting started blowing up recently, but CU in early:

Carter way-under-radar, but good size & interior game; jumper still work-in-progress:

Plenty of CU chatter about TX’s 6’7 Aiden Disu (but may follow brother to Texas?) & Washington’s Juju Ervin (skinny 6’8, plus length, & looks to have elite jumper) also.

Home-Runs seem to be:
1) Staton or Bartlett at 5-spot
2) PtG’s Green (CU in Top10, but stays close to home in N Texas?) or Colorado’s Sander’s.
3) W tyrus rathan-mayes reminds me of Kansas’ McCullar: tough-as-nails, team-1st, 2-way leader. Elite scoring & rebounding too.
4) Seems like key 4-Spot has some good depth in ‘25 (‘24 Diouf & ‘25 Nwuli home-runs too), but when Colorado’s Placide Bros coming up in ‘26- maybe fine to stand pat? I’m super-high on Stephen Osei: Dak-like rim-protection length & perimeter skills w/ healthy dose of nastiness. He’ll probably start climbing rankings sooner than later:

Top ‘25 Targets:
-PtG’s Green&Sanders?

-BigWing@4: Simcoe/Disu/Juju/Carter?
-Wing:EliteToughLeader Tyrus Rathan-Mayes
-Which does Tad go for in transfer portal/‘24 class?: 1-2 of each?: 1) Transfers-4/5 Javon PorterJr &/or ComboF AJCasey;2)&24’s-4/5s Diouf &/or Osei, ComboF(3/4) Chris Mason?

From 12/21/23 Tark Classic article, by Bossi:
-Xavion Staton, Las Vegas (Nev.) Sierra Vista- The near seven-footer is still much more potential than production and there may not be another big in high school basketball who is more regularly ignored by his teammates. Even though he didn’t post big scoring numbers, his physical tools are absolutely undeniable. Nobody else in the class of 2025 can move like he can at that size, he blocks a ton of shots and if somebody would just throw him a lob, he’ll finish it. He'll make a big climb in our next ranking of the junior class.

Tee Bartlett, Henderson (Nev.) Coronado- The No. 61 ranked player in the class of 2025, Bartlett keeps getting better. Continuing to reshape his body is going to be a priority, but his hands, skill and feel for the game are quite impressive for a young big man. He’s a tremendous passer out of the post, has touch on his jump shot and most of all we loved how verbal he was with his teammates. You just don’t see many bigs who talk as much as he does on the floor, especially this early in their careers.

-Michael Simcoe: “One of the best finds of the weekend, Simcoe had an outstanding performance for Glendale (Ariz.) Sandra Day O’Connor. A long and wiry strong 6-foot-8 power forward in the class of 2025, Simcoe is a potential Top-150 player who plays with as much fire and intensity as anybody in the country. The southpaw drilled threes from deep, caught lobs on set plays and was a ferocious competitor on the glass. He should have high major offers coming this winter.”
CU interest:

Point Guards. If X = number of open scholarships, then we sign X+1 PG's. Let the rest play out however we need to.
You’re in-luck, we seem to be finalists for Pts
‘24’s Trent Perry
‘25’s Jeremiah Green & Josiah Sanders

-Even if we get 2 Bigs (Baye Fall & Pharrel Payne?) & 1 Wing (Nwankwo?) from transfer, we could get Perry-if KJ AND Cody leaves? Or if Cody stays: Julian & Cody both on-ball?
-Julian & Cody leaving after next year=only 2 spots for ‘25 recruits.
-But predict CU continues to average 1 “unexpected” transfer/year= 3 spots in ‘25? As we NEED ‘25’s Big Tee Bartlett &/or Wing Tyrus Rathan-Mayes- if don’t get 2 Bigs & 1 W in this years Portal? Or 1Big/ 1W/ 1PtG?
- In-support of Gooses’ PtG fixation: Tad said in recent article that he would get “best players possible….and adjust play style” to players he gets. Hard to complain w/ that!
