In case no one remembers: CU offensive coordinator for our National Champ team, Gary DiNardo moved from CU to Vandy to be HC in the late 80’s and worked on installing the CU I-Bone offense. That first year Vandy’s QB was a potential Heisman candidate (didn’t work out all, of course, but he was a heck of an athlete). DiNardo gave the Vandy QB all of Hagan’s tapes to try to learn from.

But…. (And the reason for the story).. the really funny part was that DiNardo also gave Vandy the CU uniforms, same colors, same gold helmets, same mix and match, even the same font of Vanderbilt on the front of the jersey where the Colorado was.

For a long time, Vandy looked exactly like CU…. It was so strange to watch a mirror image of CU in the SEC getting beaten up.

So when Brian said, Sheppard “looks good in black and gold”…. There’s a serious history to that and connection to the CU Natty. 😝
