What exactly does big boy football mean to you? I use the term. Others do too. But what does it mean (in words, no GIFs please)

it means a ruthless commitment to winning. you set the bar high and you expect everyone, everyone, to meet the standard. you continue to evaluate everyone and you make changes decisively when a piece of the puzzle is not hitting the standard. bringing over the whole crew of junior leaguers from sjsu and then holding on to them over time while they continued to demonstrate that they could neither scheme nor recruit at the level we needed was not big boy football. you can't stand still. you don't keep dead weight. and, you don't assume that your little pack of junior leaguers is better prepared than the dozens of excellent coaches out there who have the right experience.

allegedly, mm didn't want either leavitt or chev here. despite their shortcomings, both were light-years better than the guys they replaced. they came from a different pool of candidates.

My main takeaways from his time at Louisiana:
  • Efficient in the red zone, scoring at a 91.2 percent clip and finishing 10th nationally among FBS teams in 2013;
  • Put two RBs on the conference first team in the same year;
  • Multiple QBs successful in his system (NOT a guy who just hit on one star to propel the O);

yeah, i like the hire on paper more than some others, i guess. i liked those offenses down there, but i admit i didn't pay much attention to his time at minnesota or uga-- i assume the man is a recruiter, too. so, yeah, cool.

Ive seen it many times in the business world....mac wanted to be surrounded by people he was “comfortable” with and would not challenge him....it was obvious he viewed leavitt as a threat....its the perfect solution for mediocrity

Not as flashy as some names, but I am intrigued. Checks the box for recruiting Louisiana, as Tucker noted.

Thanks. Relentless pursuit of excellence in all matters, and making it cultural.

Think Joe Moorehead.

I am liking the "fit" of this hire as it sinks in. Tucker needed a guy who didn't need to learn on the job and who didn't mind running the ball. This guy should hit the ground running.
Yep.

First reaction: "Who is this guy? This sucks. I didn't get the shiny new toy from the names I was fantasizing about."

After a little reflection: "This is a really good OC who fits our personnel, the Tucker pledge on physicality & our recruiting footprint."

Saw Offensive Quality Control Coach at Georgia and I about shat myself. Seems like a decent hire
It's a stark reminder of the difference between SEC staffs and Pac-12 staffs. Our QC guys are up-and-comers. Their QC guys are respected former HCs and Coordinators whose careers got caught in an unfortunate set of circumstances & needed a re-set.

His offensive at UMinn had 34 rushing TD's and totaled almost 2500 total yards.

Trying not to be disappointed. Looking up his past recruiting and looks like little to nothing unless I’m mistaken.

i like that the guy has coached/coordinated a lot of offenses and positions. bringing in a defensive guy as hc, that makes sense. welcome, coach johnson. let's run the ball, go fast, and play mean.

Well stated. I expect MT is going to upgrade and expand the support staff, hopefully a killer Dir Player Personnel and Development.

Not a "wow" hire, but to put it in perspective, he's, by far, the most qualified, proven, and competent OC hire of this decade, and maybe since Barnett was running the program. This is a meat and potatoes hire.

For the first time in over a decade, we have an OC who is NOT LEARNING ON THE ****ING JOB. FINALLY.

Hmm. I know nothing of this OC but glancing at his resume he’s gotten results in places that aren’t big time, did well in the BIG 10 at a school that isn’t a powerhouse and (again) ended up with a trio of good coaches and coordinators for a year at Georgia where he was used to help game planning. Smart using the Saban coaching hire approach. Stack up on guys who have done it before and get as many as you can.

I don’t know his recruiting level but I have no issues with this hire, he knows offense.

We WERE a **** hole dumpster fire, though. I don’t understand why people are unnecessarily ragging on MacIntyre. He improved our program’s stature and helped move us away from schools like Kansas, Indiana, etc.

Let’s just move on with Tucker already.

I’m not ragging on MacIntyre, I was a huge supporter of him on allbuffs and believed he would be here still if we didn’t have that 7 game tail spin. I didn’t turn on him until the OSU debacle and it didn’t get any better from there on out. Put down your pitch fork lol, I was merely pointing out the change in perspectives we’ve seen from when MacIntyre was talking about coming here to where Tucker says he is now. If people WANT to coach here, that’s great news.
