As I'm standing there on the Pearl St Mall at 7:00 on Wednesday night, I notice Mike Bohn working the crowd. "Hi, how's it going? Thanks for coming out. We got a heck of a game coming up tomorrow... Hi, George, how's business?" It struck me how far this athletic department has come in the 4 years he's been here. It's unbelievable. The thought of a pre-game pep-rally in front of the Boulder Courthouse would be as alien to Dick Tharp as a three headed green man from Mars. Bohn is simply fantastic at leveraging the assets of the department to raise the profile of CU and the athletic department in the state of Colorado.

I make one of these posts about twice a year. I think it needs to be repeated. The man has the department running a $2MM surplus last year. Nobody is writing nasty columns about CU anymore, even doosebags like Mark Pizla.

Yeah you can see the efforts and the changes he has made, not only in Boulder, but all over the state. There is a much better perception of all the athletic programs at CU now, whereas b4 the media would be quick to write us off, some almost defend and support us. This school will continue to build a partnership and larger fanbase as long as Bohn and Hawkins stay and continue to work for a better image. I for one am convinced these two were great hires.

Yes. Bohn could sell ice boxes to eskamos.
He has a great mind for marketing. I like how he gets that it's the little things are as important as the big. This is a short list of accomplishments that reflect positively on Bohn:

    Practice Bubble
    -Selling out the Luxury Boxes
    -Remodel the FB locker room
-Posting names of Butkus/Heisman award winners in Folsom
-Actively suggesting that fans buy Season Tickets and Bowl Tickets even if they can't use them, because CU can and will donate these to youth groups.
    - Hawkins and Bz hires. (Hawk is the reigning Motivational Lauraet for the state. Bz's USO tour strengthens CU presence withthe military and their families)
    - B12 Track & Field championship & Potts field improvements in an Olympics year. Well played!
    - Buff TV & modern Internet presence (Blogs, Meet the athletes, DVDs)
    - Well publisized promotional tours around the state
    - Well publisized pictures of football players helping freshmen move onto campus
    - Embracing recycling and eco-conciencousness (to placate the local tree huggers)
    - South Park intros featuring a Women's studies major and a reference to hippies (This was the Holy Grail of appealing to at least 4 or 5 completely divergent support bases in just 15 seconds of humor on national TV)

It's accomplishments like these that helped CU weather the various transgressions of some current and former players.

hawkins and bohn have the football team helping out with more than just frosh move-ins. during the indy bowl, they had the whole team respond to a community service activity that the bowl game set up. our buffs were asked to help move boxes of doanted food that would help the less fortunate int he area. the organizers were so impressed at the level of service demonstrated by our team that they wrote a letter of thanks - stating that they were leagues above others in terms of how much hard work they did. in all their years with this event, it was said, this was far and away the best effort and attendance given.

bohn is doing a very good job. his "thank you" note to the CU community for the disruption related to a weekday night game v. wvu was all class.

we are on the cusp of great things. if hawk can deliver an improvement on last season and if bzzzz can show some life in the bb program, this thing could get rolling in a big way. hell, could you imagine how much better things would be if we just had a competitive bb team that was revenue positive?

we are getting there and bohn is leading the way, for sure.

I think you'd be hard-pressed to find an AD more suited for this job than Mike Bohn. He talks the talk and walks the walk. I cannot overstate my respect for the guy and I hope he stays with us for a long time.

San Diego State. There were some sour grapes at the time of his departure. One article's (not editorial, but article) headline from the Union Tribune proclaimed, "Bohn departs to cesspool university" or something along those lines. Nice work guys...

    Stay classy San Diego.

I seam to run into Mike from time to time at folsom and the guy goes out of his way to talk to everyone, answer questions, etc; Everytime we have spoken he always thanks everyone for there support. In his short time here, he certainly has done alot for the school and community. I hope we can hang onto him for a long time because his work will not go unnoticed by other schools.

I see him a few times a year at Buff events in S. Cal and have run into him several time at games. All I can say is that he is a great guy always working to promote the program and friendly with a hello and how are things in San Clemente. We are very fortunate to have him.

Bohn is so awesome and I couldn't be happier with the fantastic job he has done. My only worry with him is how long we are going to get to keep him.

He is a very talented guy and I'm sure the job he is doing here in Boulder is getting noticed among the community of collegiate athletic departments. It's only a matter of time before a bigger school with a bigger program dangles a bigger challenge and a much bigger paycheck for him to go there and do what he did here in Boulder. Guys with talent like Bohn's usually have ambition too and the chance to see how big a program he can successfully lead may be professionally something he can't turn down (ala Gordon Gee going to Ohio State).

The fact of the matter is that we are not as "big time" as other athletic departments out there so any AD with ambition and talent has to see CU as a professional stepping stone. Our only hope to keep a guy like Bohn is if he has fallen in love with Boulder and CU or wants to stay here because this is where he wants to raise his family. If those are not factors then it's only a matter of time before we say goodbye to AD Bohn. Hopefully it won't be for 3-4 more years but you never know.

    Bohn Rocks!

As a Husky fan living in my dream state of Colorado I could only hope and wish our university had such an AD (and coach for that matter).

The 'Buffs are going to be a force for years to come with Bohn and Hawkins running the program. I'm so glad we have season tix! They'll be staying in the family for decades to come.

    :)

Lucky you. We just left 2 months ago, and all we talk about is going back. Never should have left God's country but the job required it. We will return though. My luck is they'll win a MNC b4 I get back.

I've run into Mike three times. I am pretty sure he has no idea who I am but he always slaps me on the back and says something like "big game" or "Good to see you".... Quite a change.

One thing that we have going for us with Mike Bohn is the fact that he's a Boulder native (BHS RULES!!!). He grew up here and still has family here. I'm not sure that he'd leave for another AD job. He might decide that he wants to be the next Chuck Neinas. I could also be completely wrong about this. In any event, I hope the CU admin appreciates what they have with him and do everything they can to keep him around as long as possible.

I'm hoping he wants to be the next Eddie Crowder - minus the coaching part.
