DS isnt going anywhere, and all other 2008 top RB recruits didnt fare much better if at all during their freshmen year.

I think DS will have a breakout year next season. With Polk, RS, and even Sumler, the running game should be hard to stop.

Good guy, Darrell Scott. Good article. The information in the table at the bottom of the article is pretty interesting.

It looks like there are 14 offensive linemen and several tight ends returning. Tailbacks Sumler, Scott, Stewart, Lockridge, Polk, Moyd and a couple of others returning. Plus Behrens and Burgner(sat out transfer last year) at fullback returning. Do you think some of the brightest young offensive minds could put together a running game with these players instead of trying to put an entire offense on one player's shoulders?

I'm looking forward to spring football to see what they put together. Then onto the fall...

Scott's going to be fine. He was thrown into a tough situation and struggled.

Hawk and Pit will have this Darrell breathing fire by September.

Our running game is going to rock.

Maybe I'm reading too much into this, but does it seem like the Post has been much more positive regarding CU since the sh!t storm Henderson created a few weeks ago? The conspiracy theorist in me says that they got a ton of negative feedback on that, and decided it might be best to calm the waters a little. Remember that there are a lot of CU grads in this state.

I think Dave Plati and the AD might have become involved behind the scenes. That Henderson article was a real WTF, and if you're in charge of representing CU's image, you'll likely respond to something that far below the belt.

I thought the most interesting part of the article was the graphic showing how other elite RB prospects did as true freshmen. No one really lit it up out of that group.

Hawk should have redshirted DS when it was discovered that he was out of shape and not ready for the season in large part due to him having to take that class while the other players were able to practice. Only problem was Hawk, if I remember correctly, promised DS that he would play as a freshman and this is what helped CU land him. Kind of a catch 22 and Hawk did the right thing in keeping his word.

Too bad we couldn't have had him redshirt last year. Oh well, hopefullly he can live up to the hype soon, but I think it will require us not running from the shotgun for any runningback to have a good season.

Agree. But the ultimate olive branch from the DP would be for Henderson to come forth and respond to the ****storm he created. The readers and the school deserve to hear him explain his side of the story as to why that article was timed the way it was.

....it's almost impossible for a freshman RB to come in and do what Adrian Peterson no matter how much talent is there

I think DS is going to be a great RB for us down the road, and I think if he's working as hard as it sounds like and he can grapple the playbook and learn to block then he will be a stud as early as next year

Scott will be fine, and I'm glad he played last year, he learned a lot.

    1. Scott came in late and overweight because of his Algebra class he had to take, so he was already behind coming in.

    2. The kid like most of the team, had injury problems all year.

    3. The kid had a ton of pressure on him coming in. I bet 75% of buff nation expected him to be a Heisman candidate his freshman season. It just doesn't work like that.

AD came in knowing what to expect... he had the work ethic, desire and drive to be that good as a freshman.... and the o-line that he was running behind in 2004 wasn't to shabby either....

I don't doubt that at all....I'm certain AP didn't show up out of shape, overweight and late....the line being the other major factor, as DS might have had much more success last year if our line wasn't in the shambles it was

Yes, the press from the Post has been pretty positive since the dirt thrown by Henderson just weeks before signing day. You would have to be an absolute fool not to recognize his attack on the program from his position in the media was intended to damage football recruiting. He isn't much different than the dirtbags who were attacking the program before. Whatever may or may not have happened behind the scenes, the Denver Post no doubt recognized that publishing Henderson's article was a mistake.

Here's hoping when the RMN bites the dust, the Post hires B.G. and dumps Henderson.

Agree, maybe the powers at the Post grew some brains and realized pissing in one's bath water is not the most sensible way to retain readership.

In hindsight redhshirting DS would have made some sense for both him and the school. At the same time Hawk probably did tell him that he would get to play as a true frosh and Hawk doesn't want to get a rep for not keeping his word.

If DS turns out as good as I think he might be he won't be able to resist money and will be in the NFL early anyways so the experience he got this year will be a positive.

I want to see what he can do with a little space to work in consistently, has the talent to be very special.

You guys who are saying DS should have RSed are forgetting that he looked damn good against csu. It was one thing after another last season but you can't say he wasn't ready to play at re start of the season

Seriously...and I thought he was the best offensive player on the field for the E. Washington game too...it's not nearly as much about DS as it was about the O-Line being in shambles after that first 2 games....Barry Sanders himself couldn't have done much on the ground with our O-Line last year

once the EWU injury ocurred, that was what ended his effectiveness... he wouldn't play through that, and then when he healed, all of a sudden he got that damn high ankle sprain against Texass. Those things never go away (had one, took 6 months), especially with continual reinjury like Scott did. Every time he turned the corner, he did something to make it worse (see A&M game)...

I am very excited to see what he can do since he SHOULD know how to pass block next year!

huh? I am arguing he was ready, but got ****ed halfway through the season with a nagging injury that anybody could suffer. He got even more unlucky by reinjuring it multiple times.

He's wondering why if they never go away, you were able to get rid of yours in 6 months.
