Whoa, I didn't think Clemson would fall that far. Yes, they got their asses handed to them (Roll TIDE!), but the writers don't usually penalize THAT much.

This just shows the silliness of polls and especially pre-season polls. If Clemson had not been in most people's pre-season polls, there is no way they'd be in one this week. Tennessee receiving votes? Losing at home to a third-string QB? Give me a break.

As others have pointed out, CU should not be in the polls until after the WVU game.

CU doesn't even get a vote in the AP??? WTF? That will change soon enough, though.

Surprised SC bounced Georgia for #1 in both.

Bit unfair to UGA, but SC played a better opponent.

I don't have a problem with preseason and early-season polls. Even if you didn't have a preseason poll, the voters still had the teams pre-slotted in their minds, so I don't think it would change their votes simply because there wasn't a preseason poll or a poll the previous week. In other words, they have their own preseason or weekly rankings in their mind whether or not it's published.

How does the coaches' poll work? Could the additional two votes we got just be Hawk putting us at #23 instead of #25?

I know, you just typically don't see a preseason #1 not stay there after the first game (a win) regardless of what other teams did to other opponents.

CU just has to take care of biz and the recognition will come. As for Tenn v. UCLA game: :wow:. I thought that game was OVER 4 different times. Kraft came around in the second half and looked like the top JC QB transfer he was supposed to be. :wow:

    Yes.

My understanding is that the teams in the coaches poll get points for whatever their placement on the poll is.

For example, if a team receives a #1 vote, they get 25 points. The team that gets the #25 vote gets 1 point.

So it is certainly possible that someone voted the Buffs #23 - thus giving the Buffs 3 points. Or maybe 3 coaches voted the Buffs #25. etc.
