Unfortunately, it doesn't look like Anthony Wright will be able to play football any more. His knee, as we had feared, will not allow him to continue his football career.

I always thought Wright was a cool guy who put the team first. He was also a guy who showed rare athleticism. Truly a shame.

For Anthony, I just hope that CU is taking care of him and that he's going to get his degree.

For CU football, this leaves another hole on the depth chart between our senior CB starters and their freshmen backups. We've got Junior Jonathan Hawkins, but he hasn't shown much beyond special teams excellence. We've also got the RS-Sophomore transfer from Georgia, Makiri Pugh, who we hope can be a CB in our system but had been a Nickel/Safety/Cornerback at UGA. I believe we're going to need to find another transfer or look to the JUCO ranks this recruiting cycle. I like our freshmen, but we need competition and experience at the position.

    Thoughts?

(Credits for the info: First read this on AZ's Scoop site and then got confirmation from a couple sources. But nothing official yet.)

Damn! Wanted to see more of him as a WR last year and was hoping he could get healthy for the sake of our CB depth. Thanks to him for sticking it out through the rough times and all the coaches put him through and wish him success in whatever he decides to do now.

Well, that sucks for CU and more importantly for Anthony. Hope he finishes his degree and continues his success in other venues.

Goddamn. Poor kid. Hope he does well in school. Hope all buff fans appreciate the sacrifice he made, as even though he never got on the field much, he will feel what he lost for the rest of his life.

When one door shuts, another will open.

    Best wishes to Anthony.

Typically this should happen. I know that Jameson Davis got a medical scholarship (whatever that's called officially) when he could no longer play due to knee problems.

It allows injured athletes to finish their degrees and the scholarship is treated more like financial aid: it does not count against our athletic scholly numbers. Sometimes the athletes do some work-study in exchange for the scholarship, but the time they dedicate is much less than what they had to commit to when they played.

Sorry for Anthony. I know he came to CU to play ball but I hope he takes advantage of the great education he can get from CU. Good luck Anthony!
