WALNUT CREEK, Calif. – University of Colorado goalkeeper Annie Brunner was named Defensive Player of the Week for Pac-12 Women’s Soccer for the week of Oct. 14-20, Commissioner Larry Scott announced Tuesday.
Brunner, a senior from Arvada, Colo., earned Defensive Player of the Week honors after recording a season-high seven saves to help the Buffaloes tie the No. 9 California Golden Bears 1-1 last Saturday. For over 89 minutes, Brunner and the Buffs’ backline kept the Bears, who have fallen just once this season, scoreless.
Though a yellow card foul against the Buffs in the final minute of regulation helped the Bears even the score, Brunner grabbed three saves through two overtimes to hold the draw. The last time the Buffs tied a ranked opponent was in the 2010 Big 12 Tournament, when Brunner and her teammates pushed No. 6 Texas A&M to a 0-0 double overtime draw.
