Man, I can see why CU has $ issues. I just paged through my copy of The Stampede and in the center they have a Map of Buff Club Members - defined as contributing $100 or more. There cannot be more than ~5700 total across North America. 5200 are in Colorado. Only 100 shown in California and 62 in Texas. Those numbers are pathetic.

Whenever the old "Lets join the Pac 10" Threads start up there must be 500 posters who claim to be in California clamoring for the change. If we had a couple of thousand members in CA maybe CU would be attractive to the PAC 10.

There are ~65,000 CU alums along the Front Range. I would expect at least 20% to be contributing. There are only 10 in Oklahoma so if all the Okie posters on this board would join the BC at the $100 level we would double the number from that State.

Call 303-492-2200 or email buffclub@cufund.org to get the ball rolling.

Sorry for the rant but it seems that we should be able to get the Buff Club up to 15,000 plus.

If you give a contribution of more than $100 then you should be on the map. No idea on the stampede, it just shows up every month. Contact the Buff Club - I am sure they could get you a copy. Maybe one of those PSU fans is ripping off your copy.

Aren't there supposed to be 100,000 CU alumni living on the west coast? If CU joined the Pac-10, the Buff Club would surely be able to grow especially the California ranks. I grew up rooting for the Buffs while I grew up in CO. When I went away to Washington DC for college, it was difficult to keep up with the Buffs since they hardly ever show Big 12 games unless it was OU or UT. I'm sure those CU alumni in California are feeling the same way and not contributing like they could.

BlackNGold, your argument could also support a move to the Pac-10 at the same time say CU ought to stay in the Big 12. If CU is to grow their business when it comes to the Buff Club, the Pac-10 move is necessary.

Beltway Buff, I attended Gallaudet University near New York and Florida.

is there a Philadelphia donor listed?

You need to take Geography class with Gary G. (god rest his soul)....

because New York and Florida are pretty $%!#ing far away from each other!

(yes there is sarcasm there... i know your talking streets)

Do you think Bohn could grow the number of the Buff Club significantly if we moved to the Pac-10?

This got me thinking...have we maxed out when it comes to fundraising as a Big 12 member? I just want to view this from a business viewpoint.

I don't think so. Bohn, and to a lesser degree, Benson, are fundraising machines. They are absolute pros. There's a lot of stuff they need to be raising funds for, though. The luxury box/club level seat addition had to be paid for. I don't remember how much that cost, but it was a lot. Next on the list was the improvements to the Dal Ward Center & lockerrooms. Then the soccer fields & Potts Field track. Then the CEC & basketball center. Bohn has said that he's pretty sure they'll have the funding in place for the CEC improvements by December, with groundbreaking shortly thereafter. After that, the big project with the fieldhouse is next. That's supposed to be something like a $50MM project.

There are a lot of well heeled alumni and boosters out there. The idea that CU can't raise money is not factual. It's more a matter of the fact that they haven't really paid much attention to fundraising until very recently.

The luxury boxes cost $40 million, and they weren't paid for with donations, they were paid for with bonds secured by the revenue from the boxes themselves. We are making an annual profit on them, but not by that much.

I work in the direct response industry (infomercials & such). I've been thinking a lot about CU fundraising and may contact Mike Bohn. A lot of principles, efficiencies and technologies could be applied that would give CU a huge competitive advantage.

As an example, one of the things we are best at is managing affordable monthly charges to a credit card (and selling them to people). Even a new graduate could afford $9.95 a month hitting his/her visa. That's a $100+ a year Buff Club donor right there, folks. And there are tons of companies that would love to partner with CU to promote to a college graduate database that numbers in the tens of thousands, so there would be no shortage of value-added programs that could make membership more enticing (and more profitable for the CU AD).

I'm actually thinking about getting my MBA started in the spring. Maybe I'll talk to Bohn then. Might be a good business plan / project.

A $100 contribution nets you a subscription to Stampede, so you might want to call the office. Price of season tickets might not apply, but your contribution does.
