It’s weird as they are lumping in the newcomers in the same “tier” that’s behind Nebraska, MSU, Wisconsin and Iowa, when Oregon is easily the top challenger to tOSU for the conference next year.

Unfortunately, it's also the case that nothing can get done to change things unless the B1G & SEC are in agreement. And the only way they'll be in agreement is if they are sitting at the head of the table as the ideas are developed into a plan.

Step 1: Getting on the same page with the best way forward - Likely discussion about moving away from NCAA oversight
Step 2: Creation of an overarching governing body for the sport and playoff - Probably the "CFP"
Step 3: Determining whether net negative revenue programs like Rutgers, Maryland, Vanderbilt, Miss State, Purdue, Indiana, Illinois, etc are part of the P2 future
Step 3: Figuring out which properties in the ACC are going to which of the three remaining "power" conferences (Big 12 will get leftovers and be a distant 3rd)
Step 3: Pooling TV rights and negotiating with the major networks and streamers on new media deals
Step 4: Creating level set rules, a CBA, player compensation structure

The real unknown is how the Big 12 ultimately fits into the new future of the P2 and what that looks like. Will the P2 relegate the bottom feeders currently in their conferences and elevate the valuable ACC and Big 12 properties and ultimately shut off the new playoff to everyone outside the P2, or will there be a P3 with Big 12 being a distant third?

IMO, the G5 is toast and those programs/conferences might as well get busy on creating their own league and postseason.
 
The B1G and SEC are no different than any other cartel. The purpose of a cartel is to eliminate competition and thereby increase profitability by having a monopoly over a good or service. It’s the same objective whether its banking, oil and gas, tech or sports.

As I've said before the SEC and the B1G will cease to exist just as the PAC12 dissolved leaving WSU and OSU with a conference that isn't a conference. This will allow them to leave Purdue and Northwestern, Vandy and Miss State behind them and out of the mix.

It may be that we see big movement as soon as the next cycle of TV contracts.

And you are right that anyone who isn't included (including a bunch of the schools that recently joined the B12/ACC) will be left out of the significant money and will need to find a new model if they are going to continue to play football.
 
Not sure where this belongs, but reading about the overall AD budget shortfall for last year, I am more thankful than ever for the excitement Prime brought to the university. It is hard to even picture how they would have managed the reduced distribution without the influx he brought.

Considering it's a non-profit, I'd assume that they budget to break even and that this would result in showing a loss. That "loss" could just be not paying down as much debt as was planned.

I'm on the board of a non profit, showing a loss is typical - *especially* if you have depreciable assets on the balance sheet.

How the hell will the Big10 and SEC be allowed to just **** on all the rest of the D1 teams? Antitrust, legislation, etc. They all need to work together. Everyone that appears to potentially be left out should get together to circumvent the Big10 and SEC from deciding anything now before it fully erodes.

The money controls the show.

Congress could do something but won't. In the state where college football is important legislators aren't going against the big schools and in the other states college football isn't an issue that moves the needle enough for legislators to devote any political capital to it.

When have the politicians ever put these lives ahead of their greed and power.

We know that the boosters behind these teams would gladly trade multiple crippled players for championships. The schools care much more about the millions in revenues than they do the athletes.

How many schools are sending guys out who will never play pro ball and also get virtually no usable education.

Well how does 36 or so programs accept their fate and college sports are essentially over? The best way to win the battle when you’re the underdog is to pull an unexpected move. Everyone else should make a bold move before it’s all over.
 
College football needed a strong and independent governing body separate from other collegiate sports and the NCAA decades ago. What is happening with the SEC and B1G is entirely predictable with the incentive structures that are in place. If the Power Two spin off into their own thing I am uncertain how they could do any worse than what the NCAA is currently doing. It has been years since the student part of student athlete was the focus for football and a readjustment will be painful for the players and programs left out in tbe cold.

I agree, but the SEC and Big10 are just as stupid and the fact that 70 D1, 100’s of lower division teams and Olympic sports are at stake, this is a coming to Jesus together moment. Those league are full of duds as well.

This was a massive step in the super league direction. One of the biggest hurdles was the inconsistent timing of when the media deals for B1G and SEC ran out, but that probably won’t be a big deal anymore. I bet we see an NFL model where Fox keeps most of the B1G content and ESPN keeps most SEC, but there will be a handful of crossover games.

It’s happening quickly.
